hi,
just a bit of help, it thundered last night and my kittys were so frightened i just wondered what the stuff was that calms them down ? think it begins with a v ?
thanks for your help as i know you will all help me ;)

Maybe you mean Valerian? that might work - or even the Feliway diffusers, except with those you'd need prior warning of an impending storm as they take a while to kick in!
My lot didnt bat an eyelid with the really loud cracks of thunder and lightening, not even a twitch of the ears LOL!
Hope yours have recovered now.

yes they seemed to have altho barnaby is abit quiet but im sure ozzy will perk him up

At risk of stating the very obvious :scared: if you're expecting a storm then they need to stay in - get them in well before anything starts and give them a good feed, with a bit of luck they might sleep through it. Aaaand.. if you have to go out, leave some nice noisy TV or radio on for them.
Please excuse me if this comes across as a matrilineal exercise in egg-sucking, I've been away for a while...

thanks hun. my kitty are in door cats anyway but i like the idea of a good feed then sleeping through it.
i dont want to sound stupid but what is valerian actually used for ? like i know it calms them down ....is that right ?

Yes, it can do, some cats arent susceptible to it - same as some don't react to catnip. Dorwest Herbs do liquid Valerian in a dropper bottle http://secure.dorwest.com/prodinfo.asp?number=VAL

Gillian - do your's react to cat nip? Mine have no interest in it at all!

REBECCA ;D

A cardboard box is always good for hiding in ;D

I think they all react to it in varying degrees! George, my tabby moggie goes mad for it - the real stuff that is, i.e the stuff that WAS growing in a pot outside the back door, hmmmm!

I think Smidgen's response was to just stretch out a little more luxuriously (thereby shedding hairs along a longer expanse of my sweaty body) and sigh loudly. Even the dog didn't care. But then he is used to tropical storms which are a lot noisier than English ones that I have experienced to date ...
