Swampy was sitting on the bed, then suddenly started foaming at the mouth. I had to wipe up lots of drool & he was quite agitated for a while. It seems to have now stopped. He'd not just eaten or had a pill or anything. I tried to open his mouth (he didn't co-operate) to see if there's anything out of the normal. I suppose I should take him to the vet if it happens again - what do you think it could be? He ate a good breakfast this morning too. I'm worried about him - just when things in the warmer weather had been going a bit better too.
-
I would ring the emergency vet to get their advice.
-
You haven't flea treated him today have you? I rushed a foaming Sooty to the vets once only to realise that I'd frontlined him earlier that day and he must have managed to lick some and it made him do that :shy:
-
I too would ring the vet, but if he is hot, I would also rub him all over with a damp cloth. With the hot weather he could be suffering from the heat.

thanks for the suggestions. He's just eaten some more K/d (on demand) quite happily, although half way through he stopped to really chew quite agitatedly - maybe he has a rotten tooth? Luckily the latest batch is soft. The vet said his teeth (in as much as Swamp allows anyone to check) were bad but that an anaesthetic with his liver history and age etc was a really bad idea. Now I'm stressing that he has a cyst or something in his mouth. We are going to have to get it open to checks somehow.
I'm going to make sure he gets enough water in him today as the flat's hot. He insists on lying on the duvet too of course. I'll keep watching him all day and call the emergency vet if he drools again for sure. I think he'd been asleep when he got up and foamed (not 100% sure).
What a day - Max has just had his latest 1.6mls lactulose (2x daily at the mo) and some Hi-life to get him to eat!

Ahhh poor swampy ... hope he feels better soon  and it's nothing serious xxx
-
hope that swamp is ok

so far it hasn't happened again, so I've been told to monitor him. If it's something to really worry about, it will happen again sort of thing. Max is off to the vet though as his tum needs dynamite to work at all. He was so stressed recently (I committed the crime of having visitors to stay!) so perhaps it's from that. Off to the locum vet later today with him and hopefully NOT Swampy!
-
Just caught up with this. Hope it's just a one-off for Swampy. Good luck with Max.

Swampy's not foamed since (touch all fake ikea wood in sight). The vet thinks it must have been something he licked. Max saw a nice Italian locum vet (no hissing!!) yesterday. His lactulose dosage has been upped as apparently it's ok to give large doses as it's safe. He now is starting on 1.8mls twice daily and apparently it's safe up to 2.5mls even! HTH someone else with aged furry constipados.
He went this morning and is a much happier fur ball as a result.

Pleased he is much happier ;D

Glad Swampy feeling better, and sending Swampy, Max and you lots of  x
