Just noticed a swelling on Sabre's right cheek, just wondering maybe he has bang it or been bitten or something like that,he is just having a sleep so will have another look in a bit to see if it has gone down, I still have some antibiotics left what Simba was on,if it doesn't go down do you think it would be all right to give him them.xx
-
What antibiotics are they and have you got a full course ?
* or you could start him on them but then take him to vets on Monday TO HAVE HIM LOOKED AT and get some more so he gets a full course, as just a couple of days on them wont be good enough
-
Baytril and there are 8 left x

I have just looked them up on the Bayer website.
I dont think it would do him any harm to have them, expecially if it is an absess at least you have started to get antibiotics into him BUT you would need to then take him on Monday to have the swelling looked at (also 8 tablets wouldnt be a full course)
Its up to you, I can only tell you what i would do, but i am not a vet

Antibiotics are usually specific to a particular issue, and that is why there is a wide range of them available. Arbitrary use can simply help the infection build a resistance so personally I would not use any antibiotic without proper veterinary advice. Stopping their use before the end of the course can also create major problems in terms of resistance to future treatment. Baytril may be OK for a fight abscess, but possibly not for a tooth abscess which may also be the problem. Best to keep an eye on it and not use any medication without veterinary advice.

:thanks: Michelle I haven't gave him any yet but was just wondering weather it would be ok, am going to see how it looks when he wakes up or I will have a look again in about an hour. I didn't notice it at 8.am this morning! then just about a hour or so ago I noticed it. But he could of been bit or stung as he had just come in at 8. x

:thanks: Blackcat, I will see how he goes. xx

I would be tempted to hold off just in case, but Baytril can be used for dental issues.
-
Baytril can cause blindness in cats and has to be dosed as mg per kg - even then, some cats have an adverse reaction to it.

:thanks: Desley!
I didn't know that Mark! Simba was given Baytril lots and lots of times with his IBD and other things. xx

That was an intresting read, Can't believe the vet overdosed the cat by that much !
As i said, I hadn't heard of that type of antibiotic before, It's not one I have used before.

I think Gillian may have been given too high a dose for one of hers a while ago. From the stuff I have seen, I wouldn't allow any of mine to have it.
-
Good news it has come down loads, he has either banged it or had a bite (something like that) panick over xx
-
Great - from what you said, he didn't seem too bothered by it
When Kylie had a bite abcess, she hid under the bed and hissed when I came near which is really out of character.
-
Baytril is a strong drug, not one my vet will use on an off chance, only for specific infections.
-
i have only had it a couple of times, and PEbbles absolutely hated it, I tried to refuse it the second time, but the vet said it was the most effective for what she had.
-
They say its flavoured but im not so sure by the foamy reactions
-
Just a quick update! Sabre is still fine! (so glad) got to get back to some more painting, hopefully we should be finnished in a day or two. xx
