It sounds like a giant joke....is it?
I'm asking because I read an ad for one and thought someone was trying to pull a swift one!
-
what are they? really small??
-
Presumably they are like tea cup dogs, miniatures of certain breeds. Apparently have lots of health probs too (well the dogs do)
-
Apparently.

Theres no such thing as a teacup animal ....all it is is a fancy made up name by backstreet breeders & puppyfarmers for the runt of a litter. They are not going to get anyone if the advertised ...a 'runt' so the they tart the ad up as teacup pups as it looks better & the stupid public think they are buying something fancy..........just a runt.
You will find that these ads are for chihuahua & yorkshire terriers but iv seen ads for kittens & birds.
-
The picture in the ad is an adorable looking ten month old cat. They haven't specified a price but have put "offers." Was just wondering how genuine it was.
-
I agree with RR, there is no such thing. These people are also breeding 'runt' with 'runt' to get the smallest animals possible because it's fashionable  They then charge extortionate prices and people pay them :-:
-
Eugh, what a revolting thing to do to an animal. Purposely breed it weak. >:(
-
there are several breeds that bug me, cats have evolved to perfection, seems a bit stupid to try and set them back
-
Cat IN a teacup !! :evillaugh:  :Luv2:
It's amazing what I have on my spare bedroom wall.

Your paying out £1000 plus for a weak animal with serious health problems to fork out more in vet bills & only for it to die on you before the years out.
-
Poor thing. :( D'you think there's anything I could do to help?
-
There was a case of someone trying to breed short legged cats and it all went horribly wrong :( this whole teacup thing is rediculous.

I agree, stupid isnt it
I also find some on http://www.newbreedcats.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 (http://www.newbreedcats.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1) distasteful, why the need for cats with stubby legs? :Dont know: :Dont know:
JS, is the cat actually different? I bet they just got ripped off :evillaugh:
-
That site has a banner for someone who breeds polydactyl cats  they accept paypal and ship where ever  if they are so ethical they wouldnt support someone breeding cats with deformities >:(
Off to email them a rant ;D
-
Unfortunately they are real in that there are people deliberately breeding the runt of the litter and aiming to produce extra small cats that they call teacup cats. But there is no registered breed.
-
Felling a biut guilty about the pic I put on earlier, thought it would be a bit light hearted BUT having read all your comments people are real :censored: some people are always out for money and fame. I was heart brtoken watching the tv the other night about elephant tusks.

Dunno - what do you think?
-
its a very pretty cat
-
This is all so awful. People are sometimes completely unbelievable. I simply don't understand anyone who would encourage scum to breed unhealthy animals by paying extortionate prices just so they have a "fashionable" animal. The cat in the photo is indeed very pretty JS and looks smallish but so was our Dingle RIP and she came free from a litter born in a back to back house behind Winson Green jail :-:.
-
I think she's lovely too. But if she has been bred in that manner I find the whole thing pretty disgusting. I hope someone who can afford the amount of medical bills she's going to generate can take her on, if that's the case. Poor little mite.
-
Rubbish angle to sell a 'teacup' cat :innocent: she doesnt look particularly tiny. Her colouring will encourage the wrong people anyway :sigh:
-
polydactyl cats are different, they aren't a breed though, but a natural mutation. Teacup animals seem to be one of those novelty things.
-
Purposefully breeding cats with faults is as bad as making teacup types. Some polys need surgery and have problems with the extra toes :(
-
True, but as it is a natural mutation, it could happen in any cat.
-
We can do tiny cats as well! :naughty:
At the moment, we have little Freddie. :Luv: He's 7 weeks old now and was born to a farm cat, who abandoned him at birth. We know that often mum cats have a hunch about their little ones but I couldn't leave him to his fate after seeing him on the cold floor. :'(
He went off to be raised by Caroline our welfare officer and about a week later, we had a stray queen who gave birth in our care and adopted little Freddie as her own. All Freddie's 'sibblings' are double his size now, but that doesn't stop little Freddie being a fighter with a big heart and loads of character. :naughty: Caroline and the vet feels Freddie might have a problem with his pituatary gland and this is why he's small, and may also be why his natural mum dumped him as she sensed this about him. :shy:
Little Freddie is up for grabs as soon as the vet is happy for him to go - which will be a few weeks as he needs the complete set of vacs before the vet will clear him for rehoming.
We'll accept a reasonable donation for CP and a bar of fruit and nut for me and some choccie Hobnobs for Caroline. How's about that for a bargain! :wow: :agree:
