Title: What else does my cat need?
Post by: Jayms_fallen_angel on July 14, 2008, 23:42:11 PM
I am getting a cat, but I've not had one in years and have forgotten most of what I used to know. So before my cat arrives I would like to get everything that I need. My shopping list so far consists of:
Food and water bowls
Food
Litter tray and Kitty litter
Toys

Do I need anything else?

Ok. I've added a scratch post and bed to my list.

My sister suggests treats but what is a cat treat?

hehe well the ammount of meat that's stored in my house I'm sure my kitty will not go hungry. ^_^ Unlike the herbivores in the house where they send me to tescos at 3am because I ran out of things like carrots. There's always ham and fish and chicken waiting to be eaten ^_^

I would recommend registering for your free Felix Kitten car pack:  http://www.catslikefelix.co.uk/default.aspx

and a free Whiskas Kitten pack http://registration.mars.com/oods/WhiskasCarePack.aspx

Also have a look at this thread as it seems to cover most things we recommend for new kittens:  http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,16219.0.html

*  Pet safe disinfectant
*  Litter scoop
*  A spare litter tray if your using clumping litter, you just need to tip the litter into the new tray minus clumps so you can wash the dirty one easily.
*  A good quality plastic or wire carrier
*  Quality vet products for fleas and worms, eg frontline & drontal
*  If you want to use a collar, a breakaway quick release one is essential with an ID tag or its pointless  :tired:

Make sure you buy the food the cat is used to eating to avoid bum issues  ;)

Ooooh free. I'll deffinatly check out those links. Thanks.

No, I haven't found a kitten yet. I wanted Lucy and Bruce, but apparently Lucy being the timid cat that she is wouldn't be very happy with my bunnies. So now I've PMed someone on my cross stitching thread as she says she's got kittens and is in my old neighborhood. Don't worry, as soon as I know for certain and have pictures they will be posted along with a vast block of text filled with excitement :P

I already have disinfectant, litter scoops, and carriers ^_^ Not bad to say I've not started shopping for my furbabe yet ^_^
*adds collar and medicine*
