Title: Yet another cat is using our catflap/eating Jamesons food!
Post by: tigerbaby on July 07, 2008, 19:47:37 PM
Me again!

A tiny little longhaired tabby (with a collar) has started to come through our flap and eat Jamesons food - mainly around the same times in the mornings, but possibly during the days too, while we're out. She (or he) meows very loudly - almost cries, but as soon as I hear the flap and goes to check, she'll hurry out through the flap and sit outside and meow. She seems timid but has a collar so must be owned by someone?
Sometimes Jameson will come in and spend ages sniffing the walls in the kitchen area and around the house - a sign the cat has been indoors.

What is the best thing to do to prevent her from coming in? I locked the flap but had to unlock it before going out so J could come and go, but OH went outside and shooed her away. Getting a microchip/infrared flap is the last resort - are there other ways to 'teach' a cat not to come in???

nope - think all you can do is keep her  :evillaugh:    :innocent:

the only way we ever managed to stop a cat coming in was by accident when he got trapped in our lounge somehow over night and was absolutely terrified (erm.....  yeah, jasper was upstairs on the bed... protecting us closely!!  :) )

*chuckles* .... the thought has crossed my mind  :shify:

I think we just have to keep shoo-ing her away for the time being, as much as I'm sure she is a lil sweetie, it is very annoying having to get up at 6am to get a hungry cat outta my house!

Is ''shooing'' a word?  :shify:

i would say shooing - but to be fair that doesnt mean much!  :innocent:

does J hate her as much as the other one?

Jameson doesn't mind her - he hasn't hissed or growled and they've met and hung out. Although when she tries getting in through the flap he puts the ''concerned'' face on!

This is the cat and Jameson when I first saw them together... awww they kissed!  :Luv2:

Looks like they like each other  ;D

I never was able to stop the cats in London coming through the flap and most would fly out if they heard me coming. It was open all the time.

I used to think I was the only one with a flap and I made so many cat friends.

Have to say I gave up trying to stop them!

Put the flap on in only and wait, you'll get your prize  ;D and possibly a wall of death kitchen

I would take her to be scanned and check the collar for ID. If there isnt any add a note asking the owner to contact you. No reply and you have yourself a stray/unwanted kitty.

She seems timid but has a collar so must be owned by someone?

Common misconception and the downside to a cat wearing a collar and getting itself lost, some think it must be owned and dont report it  :(

Yes- will do that, only problem is that she is VERY timid and wont let me anywhere near her - she will run as soon as she sees me/OH.
It could also be a new cat in the neighbourhood - she is out during the same times in the morning/day - could be that owner is back in evening and lets her back in.

You could try handfeeding her with some chicken or something exciting?  She might overcome her shyness if she thinks you bring her good things to eat
