Title: URGENT - anyone TNR in Liverpool or help with kittens?
Post by: wharfevalley catsprotection on July 04, 2008, 11:44:22 AM
Just had a call from a friend who has a mum and kittens in her garden. From the pics the kittens look around 8 weeks old but would still be OK to be brought round if given a bit of TLC. Sounds as if the mum is at least semi feral, but needs to be neutered as she may also be pregnant again. They live near a very busy road and i'm very worried that time is of the esscence here!

The CP directed her to the RSPCA (which i'm suprised about) and they've been as useless as ever, saying that there's nothing they can do - so we'll just start a new little feral colony shall we???!!!!!  :censored: :censored: :censored:

My branch specialises in ferals and timids, but i'm not sure what other branches do- any help as i'm in Leeds and can't really do anything from here!!!!!!!

Sadly, it would have to be next week for me, I work weekends and I've had no sleep the last couple of nights so doubt I'd have the energy after work  :tired:

Hey!

Thanks for this. I've asked her to set up a feeding regime in the hope that it will make it easier should we need to trap. It's a bit of a dodgy situation as she lives in an awful area (there have been two shootings in a week) and she says that they may well have an owner and doesn't (understandably) want to get into trouble!

I've said that the feeling regime comes first and seeing if she can get some sort of interaction going with them, that's a start and then we'll take it from there. She still has to get in contact with her CP branch there, but unless she's sure they're stray, I don't know what the situation is with trapping.

I'll keep you up to date, but if anyone wants her details to have more of a chat with her and give her advice then PM me. I'm not too experienced with this kind of thing, but it was a thread on another forum and I couldn't ignore it!

If this cat does have an owner, sorry but she still needs to be somewhere safe, mum and kittens should not be left outside to their own devices, so owner or not, it would be better to get these babes out of there.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but did you manage to round up any help for TNR in Birmingham, Dawn? I can keep the cats overnight while they recover from the op. I just need help with trapping (traps, manpower, and transport) I could get vouchers from CP, but they're as much use as a chocolate teapot when it comes to hands-on help!

Obviously I'd help with the trapping and direct to the colonies, but the traps a b***dy heavy, and taxi's to and from vets etc are very expensive when it's twice each day!

Thanks.

Hippy, I'll send another plea and see if I can get a response.  Could you send me your details again, area, postcode, phone number etc just in case, I have got them somewhere but would have to find them  :tired:

Spoke to Melissa and she's asking if it's okay if she takes on the kittens  :Luv2:  :Luv2:  This is fab news for me as all I'll need to sort is mum cat  ;)  I'm trying to either sort someone going over or a day when I can go, so leave it with me and I'll try and sort something out  :tired:

Do you fancy fostering mum cat until I get somewhere sorted for her  :naughty:

Hi

I have 2 fosters in now from Des in my "cat room/spare room". Can help with kittens as can keep in main house but as I have a dog (he wouldn't bother loves cats) I wouldn't want to expose an adult cat to him in case it freaks and then its more trauma moving the poor thing again. If you need help transporting or with the kittens if they are now separated just let me know

Ok hun, Melissa is prepared to take the kittens on for herself, there are only 2 of them and she's got really attached so they should be okay

Thats brilliant, if I can help in any other way let me know just don't think it would be fair on an adult not to be able to isolate her for a week or two away from spaniel (who is like a teddy bear)

I've got some kittens that look to be about 14/16 weeks old to sort, how do you fancy fostering them  :innocent:

There are 3 of them, got to trap them first, they are at the stables I've been to today so need sorting.  I'll try and get them sorted the next few days.  I've got a couple of trips over to Manchester coming up, so could possibly meet in Manchester if that's easier ;)

My mate has offered to get mum and get her spayed at least, hopefully she'll trap the kittens as well but will speak to her later.  Initially Melissa thought mum cat was pregnant but yesterday she said she appears quite skinny so hopefully she isn't, I doubt my mate can take her but if not, I'll sort somewhere out for her  :)

Had another chat with Melissa earlier and she's had another look at mum, and she thinks she's pregnant  :tired:  I'll get my mate to get her and I'll bring her here if she's got no room.  Another cat has appeared today as well, it sounds as if this one could be the "daddy", he looks absolutely gorgeous and if need be, he can be sorted out as well.  Here's some piccies of the gorgeous family, and hopefully everything works out well for them.  If the big guy is the daddy, I would hate to split him from mum so that's another dilemma we have to think about

Regardless, he's getting the chop  ;)

My friend is going over on Sunday to sort these cuties out and if mum is pregnant and looking at the photo she is, she'll be brought over to me on Monday  :tired:

Title: Re: URGENT - anyone TNR in Liverpool or help with kittens? UPDATE
Post by: wharfevalley catsprotection on July 16, 2008, 21:33:57 PM
Just a quick update, although i'm sure that Dawn will update as I think the mum is heading her way, but the second kitten and mum have been trapped!!!!!

The mum looks pretty far along but should hopefully be going to Dawn (you're not only superwoman, but an angel as well!) and the two kittens are staying with the garden owner. She was really scared when Joy took the first kitten away to be treated for fleas and a general check up as she's grown so attached and loves her already sooooooo much! There seems to also be a dad on the scene and so I think the trap will be back for the dad to get sorted  :sneaky:

That's brilliant news and I'm glad they've been caught  :Luv:   It's the first I've heard but I did go up for a kip earlier, I'm totally exhausted today  :tired:  I'm sure I'll be getting a phone call off Joy tomorrow and I'm glad they're all alright

Good news for the mum cat and the tom, both will be going to a sanctuary  :briggin:  This will not only save me a job but will allow mum and dad to be together  :Luv2:  :Luv2:  The kittens were riddled with fleas and quite anaemic so they've now been frontlined and will be wormed as well.  I'll keep you posted as soon as the tom has been caught

Hey Dawn - do you know which Sanctuary they're going to? Melissa was asking -she's grown to attached to all of them, but a family of four cats is a bit too much to take on  :evillaugh:
