Last night I noticed blood in the litter tray so kept an eye on Archie and noticed he was peeing blood.
Rushed him off to the Out Of Hours Vet just before midnight
We were very lucky that it was the lovely Aussie vet who has always been there when we have taken Archie before in an emergency so she knows him.
He had to have three injections which has made him dopey.
Had a long chat with the vet and she said this attack was caused by stress by the gorgeous bengal cat that has been visiting us and staying most of the day in the garden. It also has been getting into the house and been very aggressive to Archie and the others :( She said I had to keep Posh out of the house and if possible the garden. Feel very sad for Posh but OH says I have to think about Archie :(
Thankfully although Archie still peeing quite a bit there are no more signs of blood.
-
poor Archie, its such a shame posh doesn't have a caring owner you could talk to about this
-
It is very sad Dawn. :(
-
It's a crying shame. Pity there isn't another neighbour who could 'adopt' Posh instead. Or is there?
Glad Archie's problem was swiftly and effectively treated though
-
Will have a word with the lady across the road who has two cats but they are very timid.
I think I have mentioned before that Posh was on of two and the other got run over in the last few months. Was talking to some cat owners who live near Posh and they said the other bengal used to scare their three.

I'd not picked that up on the A team thread :(
-
sounds like the novelty as worn off with these benglies - shame she's so strident! my own benglie madam is quite good but sounds like posh needs to be an only
-
Sounds very much like cystitis which is what Hunny gets after a stressful situation wth another cat. She strains to go to the loo so much that she ends up bleeding. Metacam helps. Other than that there's not much we can do but try to deter cats away from our garden. Easier said than done!
-
 Poor Archie
-
Aw bless him....hope he continues to feel better! :Luv:
-
Poor Archie, please give him a gentle head kiss from me and the boys
-
Get well soon Archie
-
 to you and Archie?
Has the vet given you any special food to try him on? or advise you on food etc?
-
Hope Archie is feeling better soon. My neighbours cat is beating our Keidis up and he keeps getting stress cystitis, he also has a bite under his chin so another trip to the vets...... AGAIN >:(
-
Thanks Everyone
Gwen the vet did not advise a special diet but I am going to take him back for a chat
Woo Woo sorry that you are having the same problem
-
Get well soon Archie!
-
Thanks Lucy
I think Archie is on the mend but he is still a bit dopey :shify:
-
Alison, how is Archie doing now - hopefully he is feeling better.
-
Thanks for asking
I was worried yesterday morning as he started peeing blood again so phoned the vet. He said he thought it was the end of the infection but keep an eye on him.
Thankfully he seems back to normal this morning, which is such a relief ;D
-
A huge :cuddle: for Archie. Hope he gets over this quickly x
-
how are you managing to keep Madam Posh at bay? :shify: :shify:
Seriously though she needs to be rehomed, its not fair on her as she obviously doesnt think of her home as "home" :'(
-
Its very difficult :( We have to keep the door closed. OH has been shhuishing her out of the garden but I cant.
She does need to be rehomed, poor thing. :(
Archie has just peed a bit more blood so will have to phone the vet again if it does not settle :(
-
I don't suppose you know if she is chipped??

Poor Archie :'( poor Posh :(
-
Thanks Everyone
Dawn I have been wondering whether she is chipped and I would guess she is :(
-
Dont assume shes chipped cos shes a ped ;) alot of breeders dont bother >:(
Only 3% of cystitis is caused by bacteria, if the bengal is too much for him to handle he will have regular bouts of trouble until she has gone :(
You could try feliway plug in to help him feel better
-
Thanks Millys Mum, will think about the micro chip issue :shify:
Did not realise about cystitus and bacteria.
Will get a feliway plug in .
-
I will try to find the paper for you, i found it very interesting when taz first started having trouble as i had always thought it was down to infection and he was given alot of ABs which did nothing :( (other than make him a hypochondriac, he loves taking pills and liquids so much he will beg for them :evillaugh: )
-
Thank you.
Wow Taz begs for medicines :wow:
-
Hes short of a few pennies

Many thanks the articles are very helpful :thanks:
-
hope the jabs from the Aussie vet have sorted it out and that things are calming down all round for you and Archie.
-
Thank you. Popped into the vets with the ins. form this afternoon and they think Archie is on the mend but to keep an eye on him.
-
Cystaid might help, it helped my foster who had stress related cystitis. HAving him on mainly wet food also helped.
-
Thanks Desley just looked it up and it looks just the job. Will get some ;D
I have cut out Archies dry food and presume it will be best to give him a wet diet from now on

These links are fantastic but the pic made me cry, it reminded me of seeing Jess in the vets!
I hope Archie is on the mend Alison
-
poor archie, metacam is really good and helps with the inflammation caused by stress, TC suffers with the same thing so i know how worrying it is.
Hope archie is soon feeling better :-)
-
Big fat fluffy pawed hugs from Leo who had this a few weeks back.. get well soon Posh x
-
Thank you :thanks:
Archie seems much better today and is not in his litter tray every two minutes.
The vet gave him an injection of metacam, but I have some at home from a previous emergency so will give him some if he is in distress
-
Sorry Archie not Posh! x

Word of warning is to use metacam carefully and only if essential
