People, please please can you help? My best friend has just sent me this message from her son (also Chris) who is doing volunteer teaching work in Nepal:
Chris
Our Chris and his room mate have rescued a stray kitten in Nepal. She was dumped in a plastic bag by a roadside & was being hit with sticks by a group of children. She has a broken leg and is very malnourished and generally poorly. They have a vet coming, but it's likely she will die. However, if not, I'd like to be able to track a suitable sanctuary in the Katmandu area. I can't find one through Google, only a dog sanctuary.Chris did say if she made it he'd see about getting her back to the Uk but obviously that would be hugely traumatic for her and would cost thousands. I wondered if, with your contacts, you might have any ideas?
love
Gil
I will pay for any treatment this cat needs, as will my friend Gill, but does anyone know of a sanctuary in Kathmandu? Or have any advice?
Hoping for a Purrs miracle here for this little one.

Maybe they should contact the dog sanctuary - they may know of someone who could help ...
-
I'll put a plea out and see if anyone knows anywhere in that area

I am sure these people will help, or put you in contact with someone who can.

In the first instance, I think Jo is right: try the dog sanctuary http://www.katcentre.org.np/
Alternatively, to get in touch with http://www.fpmt.org/projects/alp/ The Animal Liberation Project. They might at the very least have contacts.
-
How awful :( I really hope they can find somewhere for the poor baby
-
Thank you everyone - I have sent all the details (plus a link to this thread) to my friend Gil and will let you know the outcome. Her son, Chris, is an intelligent, compassionate young man and I know he will do all in his power to help this little one.

Thank you again, everyone, for your advice and support.
No news yet except that Chris has called the kitten Nani (baby girl in Nepali). I will update this thread with any news about her.
-
Bless him. I do wonder if bringing the kitten back to the UK would be that costly, I can find out for you if you like Christine so that Chris is informed before he makes any decisions?

I have told her that it won't cost thousands. Nani is seeing the vet today so let us see what the outcome of that is. Gil has discovered that the Nepalese have a habit of saying it with sticks if they suspect rabies, but I have told her that her highly-educated son is probably in a better position to judge the likelihood of that than the village children.
I saw the note from Chris to his mother, and it included this: 'I think there is a good chance that she will die. At least we will be able to give her a comfortable ending to her short life. She has great spirit and is definitely a people cat, just like Jenny.'
I am so proud of my friend's son for what he is trying to do.
-
Bless him. Poor little baby, he must be heartbroken.
-
what an amazing thing if he is able to save her
-
I hope she pulls through :wish:

Here's a link that someone's sent me, I'm not sure if it's of help

Thanks, Dawn :thanks: that does look as if it might be very useful, doesn't it? I have sent the link for this thread to my friend and she has forwarded it to Chris in Nepal, so he will be able to check it all out when he is back in Kathmandu at the weekend (he is in a remote village doing his voluntary teaching work and has no Internet access during the week).
This also means that we can't get an update until Saturday :(
-
It looks to be very useful, I may keep that one handy myself ;) Fingers crossed for this little one and I hope he manages to get the help that she needs

He and his roomie paid for a good vet to come out to Nani and they know not to worry about cost, so if she can be saved, she will be. Chris adored his family pud, Jenny, and Jenny worshipped him, which tells you a lot about his way with cats :Luv:
-
Excellent news .. so pleased they have managed to get a vet to see her. Fingers crossed this little one can be saved ... Chris sounds like a lovely young man ... doing voluntary teaching work, cat lover ..... don't suppose he wants an "older" women does he!
-
Christine, do please pass on the message to this wonderful young man that it's a very noble thing he's done, and whatever the outcome we know exactly how he feels and are with him all the way.  :)
-
Julie, I cannot begin to tell you how much he appreciates the moral support from all of Purrs. He has the link to this thread (although he can't see it yet), as does his mum (who can :Luv:).
Let us hope and pray that Nani will be saved by his compassion. If not, then at least we know that she was saved from torture.
I shall update as soon as I have news.

Just had another email through off someone which may or may not help:
There are a number of options. If the cat is found in Kathmandu district it can be taken to Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre (www.katcentre.org.np) in Buddhilnakant, or to SPCA Nepal, close to Pashupati (www.spcanepal.org.np)
If it is found in Lalitpur district Animal Nepal can help. We rehabilitate sick or injured stray dogs and cats in volunteers' homes. We are overloaded at the moment but we can help in finding adoptive parents after the cat has recovered.
One suggetion: not many vets are able to treat cats in Nepal. Pls contact staff of animal welfare orgs to ask for advice!

:thanks: Dawn. Suspect our boy sent for a western vet working over there (in fact, I am sure he did) but will ensure he sees this...

I have immediately emailed my friend with the full contact details and offer of help from KAT and she will forward this to Chris. I will post an update as soon as I hear from her (which will be as soon as she hears from him). I do so hope it went well with the veterinary visit on Monday...
On a lighter note, I have to tell you that Chris is a very good-looking lad as well (he'll not thank me for posting that ;)).

I have a cunning plan. :shify: How's about we make Chatlines and dating services a thing of the past and just get all single blokes to sign up for cat rescue? £50 a time to clean out litter trays and you get to have dinner with a Purrs 'greenie' :shify: :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
Fingers crossed for wee kitten. :Luv:
-
Poor Chris is probably at this time absolutely petrified, you lot are soooooo cruel :naughty: And Julie, what a fab idea :evillaugh:
-
Well, I have just heard from my friend and it is good news and bad news from Nepal.
The good news is that Nani came on in leaps and bounds while Chris was caring for her. The bad news is that she recovered to such an extent that she upped and legged it via his balcony.
My friend will contact the sanctuary in Nepal to tell them.
-
Sending positive vibes Nani turns up safe and well
-
Any news on this little girl Christine?

Any news on this little girl Christine?
No, I am afraid his mum only hears from Chris once a week at the weekend when he can get into Kathmandu. I suspect that when he said Nani legged it, he has not seen hide nor hair of her since, sadly :( His mum has contacted the sanctuary, so they will not be holding a space for Nani.
His mum certainly knows how much effort you yourself, and others on here, went to  :thanks:
Sorry not to bring better news

I missed the latest news. How sad that Nani has resisted help  for Chris.

:( :( :( Oh no ... I didn't realise she had done a runner. Fingers crossed she will be found.
