Title: One born every minute!
Post by: Pinkbear (Julie) on June 27, 2008, 16:14:36 PM
Mark and I were out earlier today checking over a report of a group of ferals. We saw a Lost Cat appeal stuck to a lampost, so naturally we stopped to study it. The heading was Lost Bengal Cat, aged 7 months. The picture was of a standard Tabby moggy kitten.

Someone made a few quid out of that!

It's quite sad though that a) they have lost their kitten.  and b) they may well have been sold a "moggy" and led to believe it was a Bengal.

It could be the other way around though I guess. Someone replies having found a proper Bengal kitten and they say "Yep that's the one thankyou very much" you never know these days!!

Hiya Julie,

Thought you might like to know that Jumpy is in my animation behind the desk in the box office scene.

Obviously, we feel sorry to hear of any lost pet. As some will remember, I know that feeling only too well and we hope puss comes home ASAP. The point was more of the nature of how these  :censored: acquired puss in the first place...

It's a illustration of the consumer, one-upmanship, impatient world we now live it, isn't it? If I was a  :censored: and I want something, I want something special that either no one else has or can afford. But rather than pay full whack to have a certified puss from a reputable breeder, I see an ad in the newspaper offering something cheaper but still very special sounding, no paperwork but still as good as the expensive variety - the neighbours won't know I got one a little bit cheaper! So I pay vast amounts of dosh for something exotic sounding and then sit back while all the neighbours envy me.

I found it hysterical that it's that easy to get a shmuck to part with lots of cash for a tabby because they obviously didn't Google 'Bengal Cat' before they coughed up the dough!

I am thinking of having an adoption drive on exotic, preselected Ebony Kittens.  :sneaky:

Gosh! So he is!  :evillaugh: I think we best not tell him, though, as it will only go to his head. He is always telling us we don't appreciate his many talents. :innocent:

To be fair although I sympathise that they have lost their kitty (moggy or bengal I'm sure he/she was equally loved) I can't feel sorry for people that get ripped off this way. Bengals are a difficult breed and to buy one without even knowing what one LOOKS like is beyond belief!

We took in a cat yesterday, person paid over £100 for a Bengal - he is ginger and white!! Will post pics when I go to see him tomorrow. He was obviously bought from Loot or some such. And we took in two Bengal Crosses that didn't look much like Bengals, the moggy i picked up the day before looked more like one than his (and they were his words).  it is shocking how many people think they have got a Bengal and it is nothing more than a tabby

Guess there are folks who want to one-up the neighbours "on the cheap" with a posh cat, but who, because they are utterly clueless, end up parting with stupid money for a mog, leaving the sellers laughing at them and lining their pockets at the same time. Shows how gullible some folks can be...  :tired:

A pet-quality Bengly is around the £600 mark, it's far more for a show neuter, more still for a potential breeding queen or stud. Anyone who has seen / handled / heard a real Bengal (and yes, they do shout LOUD) would not get them mixed up with a tabby non-ped. Benglies are just far too distinctive to make that mistake once you know what these cats are like.

Oh yes, and I was born and bred in Islington, but I ain't that 'doopid...  :shify:

Unique is not the word. I could never believe how strange Stelly sounded when she spoke, used to keep me in stitches and their activity level is beyond what I have seen from other cats.
