Would like you all to meet Peter a cat of 11 plus years . Peter turned up in an old lady`s garden looking very thin and worse for wear over 10 years ago; Peter has no tail or at least one that is only an inch long, so old lady decided Peter was a good name after Peter Rabbit. Peter had a lovely home until recently when the old lady died , PTS was arranged for this afternoon as the house has now been cleared.
Peter came into Paws Inn in last night, and thankfully wont be needing to take that one way trip to the vets. She will of course be seeing our vet for some treatment when she is settled.
Incidentally Peter is a lovely FEMALE cat.

Well, it's unlikely anyone else will have a female cat named Peter I suppose. :evillaugh: Fuss to the lovely little girl. :)
-
She's lovely, Teresa. :Luv: A very serene looking pud and thankfully she doesn't realise how close she came to not being at Paws Inn. Fingers crossed someone falls in love with her soon! ;)
-
Gorgeous and a great name too! x
-
 Peter looks like Lexy (with a pink nose)!!! Practically identical.
Absolutely gorgeous puss. :Luv:
-
Oh she is gorgeous :Luv: and a very lucky puss cat to be at Paws Inn. :Luv:
-
AWW she's a beauty - that mask is just so cute.
-
She's lovely Teresa :Luv:
I hope the poor auld dear never realises how her story could have ended.
-
Awww bless her, i hope she finds a lovely home.
-
Thank you for taking Peter in. Why did she have appointment for PTS?
:ahh:
-
Hi, Peter looks great and very lucky to have been "caught in the net" so to speak.
What really worries me is that we must be missing hundreds of these healthy looking 8-14yrs old cats whose people just take them and have them put down.
I'm way over my numbers now this year and it breaks my heart.
I was informed of one Tues, a 12yr old, whose only fate if I didn't take him was the needle. I had to say yes, what else? SHE is beautifu and healthy, she certainly didn't warrent PTS, and I sincerely hope no vet would have done this.
My only answer was please don't tell me of anymore until my numbers are more stable, a case of what I don't know about etc. But that is pathetic really.
How oh how can this be stopped or at least slowed?
-
She is lovely - glad you got her in time
I know our vets say they won't PTS healthy cats but I'm sure some do. We had one last year where the lady only phoned us because she was going into sheltered housing and took her 11 year old for PTS but the vet refused and said 11 is no age and he wouldn't PTS a cat that wasn't sick.

I always worry in instances like this, what happens if they are adamant and the vet refuses? What happens to the cat then?
-
I hadn't thought about it like that :(
-
That's how Jasmine my black/white girl came into me. She was approx 2 years old and was taken in to be pts, the woman was adamant she wasn't going home with her, she was being pts or I take her, no inbetween >:( >:( I know if my vets had refused and I'd refused to take her, she would have just been dumped somewhere so sometimes I wonder if putting to sleep in some situations is the better of 2 evils.
I'm glad Peter has managed to get her feet under the table and has been given a second chance :Luv:

Because her owner had died and family unable to give her a home.

My vet has just refused to put a 10 year old to sleep, where is she now? I will introduce her later
modified to put my post outside of quote, gosh I am thick with computers

T wish I had the B***s to do what you & DD and many others do.
-
Gail you dont need B***s, cant speak for other but in my case a little madness helps
Just put other cat on new thread 10 year old Kitten
-
Speaking personally, I started off thinking it might be cool to go down to my local cat rescue and tickle some puds. :evillaugh: Trouble is, when you start looking into the problem of homeless cats, you discover just how big an issue it is and you realise the incredible workload rescuers have and if you are any kind of decent human being with emotions and principals the only thing to do is roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. If only I'd done a tad more research and considered just how much I'd age in a year.
Rescue work creeps up on you and like a Hoodie with a stanley blade to rob you of your freedom and before you know it, all your friends and family have left you and you have a perminant whiff of sardines following you wherever you walk. :tired:
-
 @ julie
Peter is lovely, i hate the way once old people go their only friend in many cases is just disposed of :( so many people have no family until the house becomes available and the cat that has been their companion for years means nothing >:(

:evillaugh:
I have been asked by OH if I can string a sentence together that doesn't have the word "cat" or "cats" in it :-[
I think we may have another dumpee by the end of the day :( The woman gave up the kittens a while back but not the mum. She told Sharon today she now wants the mum taken in. She was told that now we are full and she will have to wait until there is space. She said if we don't take it, she will dump it at the vets and leave it for us to deal with. I sometimes google names and googled hers - it turns out the council had refused to take some bagged rubbish (as well as her wheelie) so she had dumped it at the council offices. She was on the BBC news page - she was fined £75 :evillaugh: - This leads me to believe she wil keep her word with the cat :tired:
Edit - I read it again and she refused to pay the fine, was taken to court and the magistrate imposed an absolute discharge - so she got away with it >:(

Actually it is not always that simple. My mother had two cats when she went into care. I had three, plus a dog and was planning to move to the UK at that point. My sister had three cats plus dog also. To take on both cats would have given one or both of us five cats, and in my case, the additional challenge of moving them internationally which at ages 12 and 15 would have been difficult for the cats. Fortunately (well, actually rather tragically), one of my sister's cats died so she was able to squeeze both of them into hers. So it is not always that the will is not there. It is sometimes simply that the capacity does not exist.
-
Aww, the poor baby, but another one safe and sound now, I hope rehoming goes well for both.
-
Reckon I might have to fit me a sidecar on the bike if I come over on Sunday, only got so many pockets to fill with cats :evillaugh:
-
Sunday 29th Carl and fit a trailor on the back for good measure
-
Peter is lovely...he looks really young for an 11yr old! :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
-
Ruth Peter is a female; have been calling her Pee Wee which she likes.
-
Aw, she's gorgeous :Luv:
We had a budgie years ago we called Peter, turned out he was a she, and she was then called Petra :evillaugh:
-
awww :Luv2: Peter reminds me of oor Zorro lad! ;)
Nice one in taking him in Teresa, always nice to hear of the oldies getting a 2nd chance. I agree whole heartedly on the 'madness' thing... I think if you didn't have that then you'd really struggle with this calling of rescue work!
hopefully something will come up for her soon and she can be settled again in a new forever home.

:evillaugh: :evillaugh:
Peter is beautiful. Am so glad she wasnt PTS. It just emphasises all the more how vital the likes of Teresa and all of the other sardine suppliers work is.

:shy: I have a 15yr old female "Ted" now Teddie! :Luv: ;)
So sorry Pee Wee..... :Luv2:
-
Aww she's gorgeous!
-
You don't have to change her name T. Peta is the female versio of Peter, so it is just the spelling that needs altering :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Finally got Peewee into vets for check up, first vaccinations and microchip today; clean bill of health although a little on thin side and vet thinks her bald bits were down to overgrooming due to a flea infestation which we sorted last week, so all is well with her.
-
Aww, that is good to her.
-
great news!
-
Excellent news :wow:
-
Good news Peter Peewee has a new home ,a new mum and a new name, she left us this afternoon and is now called Poppy.
-
Fantastic news and I must say that Poppy suits her rather better ;D
-
Aww, I am glad to hear she has got a good home.
-
Great news for this beautiful little girl.
