Title: What should I have on Disc for Collar?
Post by: JadesMum on June 05, 2008, 10:30:35 AM: I am getting discs to put on my cats collars. The ones with telephone number etc on.
What is the best things to have engraved on these - both sides.
I was thinking my Mobile or House telephone number - which one do you think.
And not sure what is best on the other side :-[

In any case, personally I prefer having my mobile number - so if one of my kitties is found, I can be contacted wherever rather than just having a message left at home. I also have my house name and street, so that if they are found wandering, people will know if they are local or not. I think the most important thing is a phone number as that is what people will instantly look for if they find a lost, injured, or (hopefully not!) a deceased cat.

I agree 100% with safety collars as others on here will tell you of the horrific injuryies caused by trapped legs in collars - usually the so-called elastic safety collars are usually the worst as cats can get a leg trapped in them. In theory, they are supposed to snap under pressure but this isn't always the case. Only last week, Ela posted about a cat that slipped on a window ledge and was hung by its collar :'(

Tibby is chipped, getting Lucy chipped soon.
They both have safety collars from the vets where I take them for checks and flea injections etc.
I will probably put my mobile on one side and address on the other side - address was a good idea so people can see if local or too far away from home.

I argued that they aren't safety ones and he snapped one to demonstrate. I'm not sure that the weight of cat's body would be enough to snap one though. The only true safety ones are breakaway ones - hopefully your vet sells those.

Looked on the kitty website at those collars and there is a clasp like on those and not like the ones from supermarkets. So thankyfully vet sells the right ones.
