Title: J.J back at the vets.
Post by: lucky and jj mum on June 03, 2008, 11:19:10 AM
Had planned to take J.J back to the vets this morning as she hadn't been eating too well of late. She had restarted grinding her teeth and you could see she was trying to move food around in her mouth.

But yesterday morning J's breathing was much heavier then of late and she was at times having her mouth open. So it was off to the vets first thing. I was sick with worry thinking that there was going to be only one out come but thankfully there was a chance that she could be with me a little longer.

Water had came back into her chest, so Jo put some percutol ointment in her ear ( this opens the veins up) and also a frusemide injections. I had to take her back again yesterday evening. Although her breathing was still heavy it wasn't as heavy as in the morning, also her chest sounded a little better.

Back there again this morning, Jo was pleased with her enough so that I have now been given pills of frusemide. J has to go back in a weeks time for a check up.

I know time is fast running out for J but at present Jo is happy to let J continue as she is. Jo couldn't say how long she has and to be honest I didn't want to know.

As for her teeth it is one of the large front teeth ( the only ones she has left) which is causing the problem now, with all J's other problems there is no way that J can under go another op. So I'm mashing the a/d up with some fluid to make it much easier to eat, which is thankfully working

Well she has been eating not huge meals but better with the food mashed with water. Her breathing is a lot easier, she not moving around too much she is having waitress service at moment. She has taken up residence in our front bedroom and being waited on paw and paw :briggin: But she seems content and purrs away when I go visiting her and stroke her. Brought her some cat milk today and she liked that. A little while ago she came into my bedroom to see what I was doing and we had a cuddle as she then walked over my keyboard. Then jump down and back to her bed. Thanks for asking Chrissie.

Had to take my J.J back to the vets this afternoon, as her breathing seemed to be a bit heavier and with the weekend ahead didn't want to go to the hospital.

Jo saw her straight away, her breathing was heavier and her heart racing it didn't slow down as it has in the past. I had the option of the hospital but as they wouldn't be able to prolong her life for months Jo said I was more than capable of looking after her myself.

She has given me another pill to give twice a day spironolactone a 1/4 each time. Again this can be increased if needed but Jo would rather start low at first. It is a vicious circle as to treat the water around her chest can cause problems for the kidneys so she has to go careful but she said the most important thing at the moment is to get rid of the water. Since being on the frusemide tablet J hasn't increased her urine out put so I hope this other tablet will do that.

Her gum round her tooth area is looking better and at present though not huge meals she is eating better.

Jo is working at the hospital this Saturday night and has told me if I'm worried to come up there to see her, I still got my appointment for Tuesday morning but again Jo said if I need to just come to the surgery first thing Monday morning. I hope I don't need either of these options and can wait till Tuesday.

I know people say she has had a long life and that is true but it doesn't make it any easier knowing time is fast running out for my darling little J.

Ah Sue I am sorry.  you should have txtd me.  I hope JJ improves over the weekend and the new meds sort out the fluid.  Fingers crossed she will pull round.  remember how many crises Dragan went through?  She knows how much you love her and I am certain this helps them when they are bad.  Ring me if you need a chat  or  a phone hug. x

I'm so sorry to hear that things are so difficult for you and JJ.  I truly hope that whatever time she has left with you can be as comfortable as possible.

It sounds like you are doing a tremendous job of looking after JJ and I'm sure she knows this and appreciates all you are doing for her.

Had to go back again this morning to the vets. J.J still had only done one wee since my bedtime and 7 am this morning.

Jo took an urine sample though not good it wasn't bad.

Jo fears that my J.J kidneys are shutting down, other then her breathing and not moving round she not showing signs of feeling ill. Jo knew I wasn't ready to say good bye today.

Over the weekend I'm to try to get J to take some Lactose, I've manage to syringe 6mls into her though she did struggle, she wouldn't take it by saucer.

I've to go back Monday and I dred that I may have to make that fatal decision

This mornings update.

Well though not many J.J has done more wees then she did the other day,9.20 last night then between 12-4am and one at 7.40-9am also a poo. She did a little cough around 3.30 am so I got up to check on her and gave her some food which she ate and two little saucers of Felix milk with the lactose in it. Since then she has had a little more food and the milk. She also walked to the water dish outside the bedroom door and drank from that (though she has two types of bowls with water beside her)

As long as things don't change we have decided we are not going to do anything as yet, yes her breathing is still heavy but she seems alert and she is cleaning herself. I will ask what Jo thinks about increasing her dosage of medication as at present she is on a 1/4 of each twice a day.

I stop giving the lactose by syringe as she fought against it and stressed her out.

Can't thank you enough for all your good wishes.

Been to the vets with J.J for her check, was dreading it as i was so close to pts on Saturday.

Jo, my vet was pleased, she said her chest sounded better, her breathing is still heavy though. She is to stay on the same amount of medication and Jo wants to see her in a weeks time.

She was pleased that her urine has increased, since Saturday I have made a list of times she used her litter tray, even during the night... funny how you are alert for their movement. She looks more alert then she has and she is moving around more, though at present she is still staying upstairs which I don't mind.

So fingers and toes crossed you won't hear no more on the subject till J has her check up next Tuesday.

J.J totally amazed me today. I was upstairs with her, I went into another room then back into the front bedroom and no J. Look all round upstairs but no sign of her, came down and there she was sitting in the greenhouse. She spent the whole day there till I brought her in just after 7.

Well it was J.J's check up today, something I was dreading.

But thankfully all went well, fluid has gone from her chest yes her heart still beating fast but all in all Joe was pleased with her. She said she was alert, bright and gums a nice colour and was in no pain or discomfort.

She will see her next Wednesday as I'm there with Molly but after that as long as she is still the same we may go to fortnightly check ups.

Yesterday J spent the whole day out in the garden wandering around from chair to grass and to her favorite spot the greenhouse.

She has gone out there again today. She is a frail old lady but quoting my vets words, "she is a remarkable cat"

Just thought you might like to know how J.J is doing.

She went for her check up today and again got on well, I had hoped she had regain the weight she had lost but she had kept the same weight. Jo, was pleased with the weight and she thought as I did that her body felt better. Her heart rate was the same her gums around her few remaining teeth were still red but since being on the antibiotics she has improved a lot with eating.

She is at present having freshly cooked chicken and is actual meowing for food, so she is being fed on demand and that has even meant being woken up around 1 ish for a little feed but as long as she is eating I don't care.

She finished her antibiotics a week ago but as they have helped her so much Jo, is letting me put her on them again for another week. As Jo, has said the disadvantages on staying on the antibiotics are out way by the benefits she is getting by being on them so we are going to do a week on and off for the time being.

I'm due back there again next Friday as Jo, is going away for a week and she wants to see her before she goes.

Ooooooooooooh that is such good news for JJ.  My vet said about Dragan that so long as he maintains a steady weight it's good.  WTG JJ keep on being spoiled and tucking into your food.
