I've just returned from a farm cat situation we are working to clear. A queen gave birth to a single kitten in an unheated caravan probably early this morning - certainly not more than 12 hours ago. No one has seen mum since and after 6 hours of distant monitoring, we took the decision this little one wasn't going to survive much longer and I've bought it home. We made a thorough search and no sign of any sibblings either.... And please don't say it was the trapping that made mum leave it because we suspected some of the cats may be pregnant, so I haven't trapped there for over a month. :tired:
We are gently heating the poor soul as it was stone cold and have managed to get a small amount of Cimicat into him/her. My welfare officer, whose done this before, is out for the day and I can't get hold of her... When should I expect the darling to pass it's first poo? Do I clean it's botty to stimulate it before or after eating? I've forgotten which. :-:
The wee might has perked up a lot since we got it back, but obviously, this is a dire situation for it to be in. :( Any help or advice greatly appreciated as I've never had them quite this small before. :scared:

I think you stimulate them before eating, but not sure. Here is a website which might help, until some experts come along.

The little one is holding his/her own and seems warm enough now. Not eating terribly well yet but it's only been here 3 hours. Will let you know how it goes.

I wonder if there is a way of getting hold of a kitten colostrum pack quickly?
I think Caroline was at the "Fun Day" today?

PB kitten will only take 1ml per feed hourly for first day, you will be fine.

Well, my personal crisis seems to have relaxed as I've now got hold of Caroline and she's offered to take the little tyke for his first week. (We think it's a boy anyway.) She's done this before and is an experience A&E nurse as well. ;)
Meantime, he did a little wee all over me when I was handing over to Caroline. :rofl: :rofl: I think he's a lot better than when I first scooped him up. He feels warm now, is having a good struggle around between naps, and he has at least had some milk. Not sure how much but not far off the mark Teresa said is normal.
Fingers crossed! I'll be taking him back in about a week as Caroline is going away on hols. ;D

Bear in mind those are my daughter's fingers in the picture, not mine. I've never seen something that small before... really scarey and so delicate. :scared: :naughty:

fingers crossed for him PB.... but by the sounds of things he is a wee fighter and by the sounds of things you have done all the things to get him to this point.
Keep fighting little one... you can do it! :) Once his strength has picked up and he is feeding better you may want to try royal canin babycat milk which gives you longer between feeds and takes the strain off you a little especially through the night. :)

Caroline called with an update. Little Titch has taken to the bottle well and settled down to a routine. He seems to find comfort from clinging on to Caroline's surrogate mummy cat Teddy Bear, which so far has pulled the wool over 5 other kittens eyes. :evillaugh: Early days, of course, but he's giving it a good go. :naughty:

Caroline has just called me with some wonderful news. :wow:
Last night, we had a pregnant mum give birth in our care. She had three kittens, all doing well. Caroline weaved her magic and this wee fella has been accepted by her. He looks a bit like a giant next to them, but is only 5 days older. He's snuggling up well next to his new surrogate brothers and sister, and mum is grooming him and suckling him very nicely. So Caroline can get some well earned sleep. :naughty:

Just an update on this.. This puss we called Pasha was taken to the vets this morning as she hasnt eaten and is dehydrated.. The vets confirmed she hasnt been taken very good care of and is full of fleas etc.. She is on antibotics and has to go back if not eaten today. When i left at 1pm she has not but the kitten were okay still..
We "may" of had the owner of her ring us up yesterday but she hasnt got back to us. So lets us hope it stays that way
