Let me draw to you attention to this year`s Turner Prize entry by the internationally renowned émigré Czech artist and sculptress Růžena Knedlik entitled "Pocta do Soulu na kočku" which translates roughly as "Homage to the soul of a cat". I quote from the online Arts magazine "Art Matters". "The 3.5m sculpture cast in bronze depicting six opened cat food boxes is said by the artist to represent the innermost representation of the cat".
Now I know that it has become "de rigeur" to have an piece of abstract art gracing one's wall or garden, we've had car tyres, unmade beds but seriously I've now seen it all"

I am confused however , she has called her sculpture a name in Czech but has dumped the female end off her name which should be Knedlikova or Knedlkova, accent over the a at end of course :shify:
Of course we know a cat has in its soul the desire to be pampered and well fed ;D

Has quite a relaxing effect on me and a nice warming glow, yes really like it but would be much improved with one of my cats asleep on top.

Sorry but I can't see it myself! And anyone who thinks the soul of a cat is represented only by food doesn't know cats. I don't like 'art' that is blatantly thrown together and then you're supposed to feel stupid or un-artistic when you can't understand what it's supposed to represent. Like those coloured squares that three-year-olds could paint ... what's that all about? I sometimes have the urge to produce something in 5 minutes and see if I can win the Turner prize! Would be soooo funny if I did :rofl:

I couldn't agree more!, the artist whose name amusingly translates as "Rosie Dumpling" obviously doesn't understand cats at all. IMHO this is just another terrible case of "art for art's sake, money for heaven's sake". Art Matters magazine goes on to quote the artist as follows "To me the cat's spirit is so intrinsically bound up in the complex inter-relationship between its food and the packaging" (end quote).
What a lot of pretentious twaddle, I'm sorry but I really don't know how these pretentious :censored: get away with it, it makes my blood boil!!!.

Most definitely Mark, I showed the two pictures to my cats and they weren't interested in the sculpture at all but the real cat food boxes got their interest therefore I can only conclude that they are very discerning art critics.

No, Leigh, I think you may be thinking of that influential work 'The Leaning Tower of Pizza' (my emphasis). Created by the bibulous artist from Italy, Rubesco Chianti, this masterpiece, formed from discarded pizza boxes, is thought by many to represent the finest contemporary example of the relationships between consumption, guilt and redemption.

Now I for one don't have a problem with Chianti's work. Although in all honesty I don't count myself amongst the cognoscenti of his work I don't have a problem per se with the creation of art from packaging in fact I'd go so far as to say that it is probably doing the Italian street cleaning profession a service in much the same way as my humble effort with the cat food packaging and in both cases the contents have served some useful purpose and been enjoyably consumed, however, here is where I find myself at odds with Knedlik's work and, dare I say it, with that of Chianti's. In both cases the artist have chosen to use pretentious titles for their work and, in Knedlik's case the fact that no "real" packaging was used remains to me a total anathema.

I quite like some of Chianti's more modern work, Leigh, but in general I am more attracted to his rival Barolo.

Although of course we both remember the bitter sobriquette surrounding his most controversial work (translated as) "Supermarket trolley with one wonkey wheel at dusk - A study in solitude" and his outraged comments which, at the time, earned him the title amongst the paparazzi as "The King of Whines" surely a most delicious play on words.

Christine I found another vintage Chianti simply entitled "Lightheaded". I think this was from his impressionist period.

I personally think (slipping into best Melvin Bragg accent) that "The artist is shown here in frivolous mood, evoking in the viewer a subtle juxtaposition of light and dark emotions".

For me, this work shines as an electrifying response to Chianti's critics. It fuses ample evidence of his current concerns with a lightness of touch and a switch of mood. There are those who see it as a volte face but watt a mistake they are making!
Hope this is not seen as too shameless a plug for Chianti.

I agree totally, you are obviously switched on to his work, the artist does indeed make light-work of such a complicated subject to me this work is positively illuminating it possesses a radiance and incandescence of its own.

Indeed Chris, IMO Borolo's "Supermarket Trolley with one Wonkey Wheel at Dusk - A study in solitude" can't hold a candle to this truely enlightening mastepiece by Chianti.

Agreed, Borolo's early works were enthused with a burning passion but, sadly, his later works are lacking this fire and, IMO, he has grown into a bulbous bon viveur. I like Chianti's more immediate, direct, current approach it is obvious to me that he considers his art a conduit for expressing his feelings alternating currently between frivolously light and sombre dark emotions.
It's all light-hearted Teresa ;D

I got Suzie another 12 pouches of the Royal Canin "Sensitivity" wet food and a bag of the same in dry food which came with a free pouch of the wet food and a free storage tin which looks rather nice.
