I have now had my two rescue babes for 3 months and hmmmmm Edgar's behaviour is starting to get a bit much!! :-[
They are both 11 and came to me via a UKRCC foster where they had been for 3 and a half months.
In the last couple of months Edgar has got very vocal which I don't have a problem with - my last fur babe was a Balinese so I am well used to it :Luv2:!
It is now getting very frustrating however as basically as soon as I am doing ANYTHING in the house he constantly moans and follows me. He is not a lap cat at all and if I am in the living room he will sit wherever and just snooze or lie on the window sill. As soon as I move however, whether it be to tidy up, put laundry on, go on the PC or make a meal he follows me and just meows and meows. I realise this is quite sweet but when I am on the PC he trys to clamber all over me and same when I am cooking - he is constantly trying to crawl up my leg. It is at the point where I wait until he is out for the count before I dare venture down stairs - and as soon as he hears movement he is up.
I know it probably sounds like I am exagarating or making something out of nothing but it really is a lot when it is constant!! I can hear him right now moaning from the top of the stairs - it is almost as if he is indignant that I had the cheek to leave him in the living room!
Oscar meanwhile is happily snoozing in the sun patch in the living room!!
Is this just a severe form of seperation anxiety!! Any one had this problem?

Sorry, I love this behaviour.
when i seriously want time out from the cats the room door gets closed, I ignore the cries and things soon settle down!
-
Have you tried seperation anxiety methods to help the situation?
-
Maybe I just need to be harsher then :tired:!
I now have to shut them out the room at night because I was so tired for work all the time that I was useless so it started about a month ago and he has adjusted to that!
Yep maybe I just need to start shutting the kitchen or Spare room door on him! I feel bad cos I get grouchy with him !
What are seperation anxiety methods? Sorry I am a bit clueless!

Not wanting to cause a ruckus here but if it sep anxiety he is suffering then ignoring him from the onset for a long period of time may actually be more harmful in the long term for you both....it usually starts with say 5 mins out of the room then progresses! ;)

Thanks very much for that - I am not sure if he does have seperation anxiety on reading it though!
I mean he does follow me but thats it, no issues when I am leaving the house, no calling when I leave (I live in a stair on the 34d floor so would hear - as I used to with Bertie :( ), no acting out behaviour, great appetitie etc.
So the only real sign he is showing is following me from room to room which is often the case in raggies anyway - my friends two follow her too - they just don't insist on sitting on her head at the same time and shouting about it lol!!
Hmmm not sure now!
He has actually been quiet since I typed this and is sitting on floor beside me - and OScar has joined us :Luv2:

Oh well..... just shut the door on him! :evillaugh:

I have a similiar problem with Franta and he is currently flaked out at the side of my elbow on Misas desk.
He will follow me where ever I go and come looking for me if I go into the garden.....he is nearly deaf and in therory cant hear me when I leave a room but..................is he a con merchant lol.
When he first arrived he was shut in front room with his bro and used to shout at and whine at the top of his voice if I weasnt in there and used to shut me out cos he scratched up the carpet behind the door.
He relaxed a bit once he had the run of the house and especially the bedroom.
He had been sgut in a garage without much human contact for quiet a long time before he camme to me and as birmans like ragdolls love human contact I think this has had a big part to play in his behaviour.
I am sure that Edgar will improve with time and I have had Franta now for over 2 years.......mind you he has found ways of getting attention recently that he hasnt done before LOL

Thanks folks - he may well settle down. I guess 3 months is not a long time and their foster mum has 15 other cats so maybe Edgar is being a bit indulgent since they have me all to their selves!!
We shall see - he has in fact been very quiet since I started this topic - lol is it not always the way!! :P

You could try a feliway plug in and see if that helps. I know how you feel as Milly stalked me for 3 months after she spent the first few weeks hiding under the bed. And she didnt even like me!! :evillaugh:
