Title: Am I Just Too Impatient?
Post by: Queen-Penguin on January 16, 2007, 15:56:35 PM
Hi all

Am I being impatient or do all good things ccome to those who wait? I've been looking for a cat for what seems like ages now. I have rang charities, emailed them and have had a few promising responses, but when I say I would ideally like a house cat, even though I don't live near a main road etc, they seem to get a bit "funny" with me. Or maybe its my imagination?

I regularly scan free papers and classified ads but I can't seem to find a kitty to suit me and I would rather get a kitty from a rehoming place rather than out of the paper.

Sorry, it's just me having a whinge about life!

Sarah xx

Not too young and not too old. 6 months plus and no older than 2 years. Am I being too picky now?

We live near a busy road and wanted house cats.  Our local rescues would not rehome any kittens with us, for that reason and because we both work myself fulltime and my oh self-employed and home office based, which I thought would be good as it means we can pay for vaccinations, insurance, microchipping etc!  We now have Maisy (dumped at the wildlife rescue my sister is a vet nurse at) and Tommy who (I now after learning from this site regret to say) I bought from the freeads.

My Tommy is so trusting and a real people cat so would probably go off with anyone whilst Maisy is scared of everything so even when we move house as much as I would like to give them their freedom I dont think I will bring myself to let them out.

Not that I'd want to put anyone off getting a rescue cat, they are wonderful and i've taken on many over the years - but maybe if you want an indoor cat you might want to think about a pedigree breed that has always been bought up indoors and never known anything else - or many pedigree clubs have welfare sections and sometimes have pedigrees that have lived indoors and that need to be rehomed.

The thing is with many rescue cats is that often their history isnt known, so there is no way of telling if a particular cat would be suitable to live indoors or not, so, unless the rescue charity actually knows the history, they maybe can't recommend a particular cat because of that. Obviously they are looking for a 'forever' home for each cat, and don't want to see the cat come back again because it couldnt adjust to being indoors. Hopefully one will come along soon where they know the history and would be ideal for indoor only.

I would kill for another pedigree cat (well not literally). My Mum used to have a blue persian and I adore Main Coons as my friend has two!!
