Title: Cat Collars
Post by: Cathryn87 on May 20, 2008, 21:26:55 PM
Hello,

Whilst i was surfing through posts the other day i saw a link for cat collars and i really liked the look of them and they seemed to be highly recommended. I just can't find the link anymore lol and wondered if anyone might have an idea which one it was? I think it was called kitty collars or something like that :)

Also, and i'm sorry if i sound dumb asking this - but do cats who have been microchipped need to wear a collar? Both my kitties will be chipped which is why i am asking. If so what age do cats need to before they can wear them?

Thankyou! x

www.kittycollars.co.uk could be what you're thinking of, they come highly recommended on Purrs.  Collars are a personal choice, microchipping is an absolute must though.  My two are chipped and wear collars when they go outside  :)

Jameson is microchipped and not wearing a collar. I don't like the idea of putting a collar on him, even a safe quick release one. I feel he is better off without one. I tried putting one on once, just to see, and he started walking backwards instead of forward, almost as if he was trying to back out of  it.
I personally feel he is better off without one, because A. He doesn't like collars, and B. He spends so much time hiding in shrubland and bushes, and although I KNOW a safe quick-release collar should be safe, unfortunately I don't trust them to 100%.

Thankyou that is the site i am thinking of. My kitties will be chipped before they come to me, so they will definitely 100% be chipped (which i would do even if they wern't getting it done before they came to me).

Now i'm completely undecided about the collar issue though as i too worry that, if something happened, it would not be 100% safe.

Collars are purrrrsonal thing but if you use them the kitty collars are the best type cos they have breakaway clasps

If you search from the main page "cat collars" you'll find multiple posts (some heated!!) for you to read through. Plenty of points for and against them.

Personally i dont collar.

If you decide to collar, i wouldnt put one on whilst they are small.
I hate nothing more then to see pictures of 12 week old kittens with a collar and cat flap magnet on it  >:( (not on purrs i hasten to add!)

Some cat flaps require a magnet to gain entry

I like both microchip and collar with an id tag, and my cat has both.
