Hi, just wondered if anyone knew what's wrong with my 10 month old cat....he has a black chin!! The black bits are scabs and powdery black stuff!! It's not going away because he keeps scratching it and the scabs get bigger when he does this. Any ideas? He's had it a while now. Any feedback would be appreciated, ta.

Hi :welcome:
It sounds like feline acne, although only a vet can tell you to be sure. Do you use plastic bowls? these are thought to contribute to acne so if you do try changing to ceramic or stainless steel. My cat had acne a few months ago. I got rid of it by washing his chin twice a day with a mild soap. That did the trick and it never came back.

Yep sounds lilke Acne to me. Best to visit the vet if he is scratching the area and a short course of antibiotics should help. My little lad suffered very badly with this. However it has all cleared up now and he even enjoys having his chin washed about once a week. I just use warm water and an old (slightly rough flannel).
Like Susanne mention try to avoid plastic food bowls ... ceramic or metal ones are best.

I use Hibi Scrub, she prefers this compared to smelling of almonds

This thread helped me too, when Pimpernel developed the same symptoms as it set my mind at rest. I still took him to the vet, but at least I wasn't panicking. ;D
