Title: Help Needed Please!!!
Post by: carl (billy and baggys dad) on January 15, 2007, 10:15:02 AM
Hello everyone, got a bit of a problem I think ...

My cousin's next door neighbour has a kitten (or young cat), which, apparently, isn't too well looked after - not let in the house often, and is always after food from my cousin's house. My cousin very rarely sees her neighbours, so can't ask them about it, and is reticent to as they aren't the nicest people about.

So ... what to do? I hate to think of a kitten being cold and hungry. Its been driving me loopy this weekend, I've not slept too much thinking about it. I couldn't really keep it here with Bilbo and Baggins - the landlord wouldn't be best pleased, but are there any options? What would you do? Help!

How old is the kitten? Surely it's better to get the kitten off the streets before it starts tomming, or anything horrible happens to it. Would your cousin be able to take the kitten in? I was in the same sort of situation a few years ago, the neighbors who wernt very nice and were a bit dumb to speak to, kept leaving their kitten outside overnight aswell, the kitten was about 12 weeks old I would say. I used to bring him into my house for a feed and some shelter but it was like the kitten was possessed, he just ran around attacking my cat's. A short time after the neighbors moved out  leaving him behind, sadly I couldn't take him in and I didn't see him after that.

I think, after just speaking to my cousin, that is what will happen - she'll take it in. She didn't really want to at first because of any possible comeback from her neighbours, but at the end of the day they appear to have washed their hands of it.

I don't know how you rescue folks cope hearing this sort of thing all the time.

It's just sad thinking people will go and get another, or maybe getting 1 has made them realize they don't really want 1. Poor little mite, I'm sure he will be well cared for now.  :)

Perhaps it wuld be wise for the little one to be relocated in a different area providing it is not chipped of course.

Which part of the country is it in?

Are you suggesting cat napping Ela? :sneaky:

I thought cat rescue people were all against that? Well I suppose if the cat is neglected...

 Before considering that extreme I'm going to see how it fares at my cousins. If there is no hassle from the neighbours, then it should be ok.

Bit of an update on this little one. I went over last night and confronted the owner. Within seconds they admitted that they didn't want it, and would we have it?

After a bit of to-ing and fro-ing and a late night dash, little Oddie (as he's now known) is a new resident at Paws Inn.

A really happy outcome to this tale all thanks to Carl (Billy and Baggys dad) who deserves a medal for his diplomatic skills and aquired Oddie legally before delivering him to me.
Oddie is currently in disgrace after peeing and tishing in my car on return from vets after having his first vaccinations, he will be neutered microchipped and blood tested tomorrow as punishment :)
Heres a couple of pics

He is a handsome little fella. I really wish I could have kept him here, I took to him straight away. I asked his 'owner' if he'd been vaccinated, to which she replied "I didn't know they need them"

He didn't even have a name. Thats the bit that grates. 7 months old and not even a name.

Another little one saved from an inevitable life of cold and hunger by Teresa.

The more stories like this I read the more I think that no-one should be allowed to have a cat until they've passed a written test on basic cat care and responsibility.

Well done to Carl and Teresa

I can't take any credit for this. I've not really solved anything - little Oddie is now safe and warm, but Teresa still needs to find him a new home.

It's Teresa that deserves the praise  :)

You gotta take some credit. If it weren't for you confronting the situation, anything could've happened to the wee fella. That's a fact.

YOU paid a BIG part in getting him away, so hugs to you.xx

he is a super little fella. Hearing and seeing these babes just makes me love my babes even more. How anyone could do this is beyond me.  If I could nuke all evil humans and just leave animal loving ones I would, and what a fab world it would be.

Have to say there is a lot more to this story than I am able to tell at present, Carl has worked miracles this week and deserves a medal.

Oddies new home came about because a lovely family sent their 18 year old cat to the bridge last week and they were brave enough to realise that there was room in their hearts for another little one.
Wish we could find homes so quickly for all of them.

Here is the rest of the story.

While Carl was talking to the woman in order to get her to part with Oddie, he learnt that she had 2 more cats, Oddies unspayed mother and another female who may well be Oddies granny. The woman told Carl that she was keeping these two and was moving house on Friday. Carl did a lot of leg work trying to establish that the woman was telling the truth and even spoke to the man of the house leaving his number incase things fell through and offered them a home if that happened.
Well this lowlife couple moved house on Friday and left the remaining 2 cats outside to fend for themselves, they couldnt even be bothered to make a call.
Poor Carl and Laura most have froze to death last night trying to catch the 2 very frightened cats that had been scratching the door of the empty house trying to get in. They didnt give up until they had both cats and then brought them here and helped settle them in, they were starving
We have called the tabby Tabitha and the white and tabby Meg, they are both much happier today with warm beds, full tummies and a lot less fleas. Just hoping they arent pregnant.
Well Done Carl you are a Hero

Bless their little paws, fancy just leaving them like that especially when all they had to do was ring Carl. It never ceases to amaze me working in rescue how cruel and stupid some people can be when it comes to animals. A big  :thanks: and well done to Carl and Laura for getting these two gorgeous babes and thank goodness they are safe with you now Teresa, they now have a chance of the home they deserve and fingers crossed they aren't pregnant. You are all stars  :Luv:

Awww shucks  :shy:

Again, its Teresa that has to deal with the hard bit now - getting them back to full health, vet visits etc.

It's sad that these people had to physically turn their backs on their cats and walk away. I don't understand it.

At least they're safe and warm now, under Buster's watchful eye  :evillaugh:

What on earth was wrong with these people? Too proud to say they didn't want them? They just proved they are scumbags by what they have done.  :censored:

Good on you Carl and Teresa for saving their lives.
Title: Re: Help Needed Please!!!

I am totally disgusted.

When Carl mentioned to me his concerns about the truthfulness of the owners, I did wonder would they just leave them behind. And we're proved correct. No wonder Carl has been worried about these cats, the owners are the lowest of the low, and no doubt they'll go on and take in more cats at their new location.

You're one in a million, mate. I hope you're not forced into the same situation again, and you can get on with enjoying Bilbo and Baggin's company, rather than worring about what the neighbours are doing.

You can't reason with scum.
