I've just got back from dropping him off.
Since his kidney failure episode his calcium levels have increased so we are now on the last thing to try. He is having a 12 to 17 hour IV drip of saline and pamidronate. The hospital has only done this on one cat before and she/he was cured but studies have shown that it may also only last 11 days :(
I've had to sign a disclaimer as it isn't licenced for use on cats but humans and they have shown side effects of high toxicity in the kidneys. However, humans have it neat whereas my vet is giving Fabes normal fluids first then diluted solution then fluids after. Hopefully this won't stress out his kidneys as he's already in CRF :(
Positive thoughts please everyone :thanks:

Any news on Fabes today?
-
Sorry I've not updated - its been a hell of a day :'(
Fabes is slipping away.
He is critically aneamic and is currently on treatment to try and promote red blood cells. The vet is hopeful that she can get him to a stage so he can come home - I don't want him slipping away at the hospital. :'(
If the treatment isn't successful then I've just taken Sol and hopefully he will be a blood match and can donate some of his blood to Fabes.
So I now only have Foofoo with me who definitely knows theres something wrong, she's not left my side since I got back.
If we can get Fabes over this hurdle then he will have approx 6 weeks - but a quality 6 weeks :'(
Sorry - can't go on, too upset :'(
-
Oh No......Come on Fabes you can do it! :Luv: :Luv:
Big  to you CS, Sol, Foofoo and of course little Fabes....

-
Oh Candice, I'm so sorry to hear this news, I really hope the vet can get him stable enough to come home to you for those last few weeks and spend his final days with his doting Mum and siblings
Its never the news we want but hopefully the blood donor idea may give him the extra time
Thinking of you all at this time
-
I've just spoken to the vet and Fabes is a little bit brighter today - he's had some food, water and a wee. He's a lot more responsive today and apparently just loves his heat mat that they have put in with him. Because of this she wants to wait until tomorrow morning to assess whether he will need a transfusion from Sol.
Sol has been tested and the results so far are good. The final test is the cross match which is being done now.
-
glad he is a little better Candice - eating and weeing are always good news!
-
Aw, sorry to hear that Fabes was so poorly yesterday, but great news that he's a bit brighter today
I hope he's able to come back home real soon
-
Glad he seems to be picking up, please give him a gentle head kiss from me and the boys when he comes home
-
Oh Candice,
Please forgive me I had no idea Fabes was so ill....I saw that he had been shaved a while ago but didn't realise that it was for anything serious...I am so, so sorry. Poor little babe. He's so beautiful too.
Like everyone else here, I am sending all my love and good wishes to you both and hope that your little guy perks up and comes home real soon to be with his family. I just pray that it will be for much longer than you think it might be..It's all too sad. :(
Please get well soon Fabes :get well 3:
Lots of love and   to you Candice

So pleased he is feeling brighter today.
-
I'm so sorry that Fabes is so unwell and very pleased that he's a bit brighter today and enjoying his heatpad. Really hope that the blood match works out IF that's necessary, and that you and he have some good, gentle and loving purr-times left together  Here's hoping for good news.
-
Any update on the li'l poppet today hun?
-
Hope he's still feeling brighter
-
Oh Im so sorry to hear this - hoping he gets to come back homw to his meowmy for a a loving and caring few weeks more.
-
He's still the same and his blood levels have improved to 11% - still only borderline though.
Sol isn't eating that much which is a worry - his bloods have also shown he has slightly elevated calcium levels. The vet seems to think its because he's in the hospital - fingers crossed I really don't want to go through all this again :'(
Fabes will be assessed again in the morning. I've asked for some indication of when I came bring him home :(
-
Sending lots of good wishes for Fabes
-
It's so frustrating not knowing and probably really hard for poor Sol too. I'm sure Foofs is probably confuddled and I bet you're not feeling too clever either.
I'm mustering all the best wishes I can find-I really really mean it-for all of you, especially Fabes.
Josh and Smokey send you all a big giant harbl and a bunch of virtual catnip flowers too
-
Thinking of Fabes and yourself!
-
I do hope today brings some better news - I remember when FAbes was first diagnosed, we were both waiting for blood results.
-
Thank you to everyone for your wishes and prayers - it means a lot.
Foofoo is really missing the boys, its the first time she's been on her own and is being extremely vocal. Its as if she's calling for them :'(
I should find out this morning what's going on, my main priority is to get both of my lads home asap.
-
I am thinking of you, it's so stressful and I hope they are able to come home soon.
-
Hope the family's all together at home soon
-
My boys are home :cheer: :yayyy:
Fabes is snuggled up next to me with Foofoo and Sol has had some biccies :Luv2:

Fabes red blood cell levels - sorry I can't remember the proper title - are still only 11.5%, normal is 30%. He was 9% on Monday and dropped to 7% on Tuesday.
The vet felt that he was starting to create his own red blood cells which is always better than putting other blood in and so decided I could take the two of them home.
I had some electricians round this morning and just as they were leaving Fabes sneaked out the front door!!! I've never seen him move so quick, the blokes said thay couldn't believe how ill he was as he moved so fast. :tired:
He's now got a brand spanking new cat bed with a heat pad which he has snoozed in this afternoon. I also bought them all a roast chicken and Fabes scoffed loads - I even hand fed him! This is the first time ever I have managed to get him to eat anything other than dry food. He has also been eating wet renal food in the hospital - me and the vet were amazed! Hmmm do you think he was trying to make a show of me :evillaugh: :tired:
xx
-
Glad that his levels have improved and fingers crossed they continue to improve. Glad he is eating well, even if he is trying to prove you wrong!!
-
Thats really fantastic news - hope he keeps creating the red blood cells ( not really any knowledge of this ) and they go right up even more and he gets better -such a gorgeous boy.
I am sure he is loving his heatpad ( gone a bit cooler now in Lincolnshire) and enjoying all his food and chicken ,
Big hugs to you all and hope things get better each day now.
:cuddle:
-
He sounds as if he is doing really well. Keep it up Fabes
-
Maybe he has been feeling ill for sometime and now he is feeling much better
-
Sending positive "make more red blood cells" vibes~~~~~~~~~If he is making them himself then that is fantastic and definite improvement for anemia! ;D
-
That is good news and fingers crossed Fabes continues to make steady progress
-
Wishing Fabes all the best
