Simba is still very poorly, was up most of the night trying to get him to eat something, had some tuna this morning. He is drinking water all the time now and he hasn't been one for drinking water before .His other kidney feels just as enlarged as the left one now.Still got to wait till thursday for his blood results. He has also started to sneeze so put some powder in his food to help him (Bisolvon)he is in our bedroom all the time have been trying to keep him apart from the others as much as poss, but its hard,He has been doing a lot of weeing but no poo's for a few days now!The litter try is in our roomtoo!, Sky finnished his tuna off this morning,I have been feeding them seperate but she seeked into the bedroom.xxx
-
*healing vibes*

Poor Simba hope his blood test result shows nothing bad and hope he is soon feeling much better
-
Fingers crossed for him.
-
:thanks: Just so worried about him he is not improving at all xxx
-
He has also got some kind of cut on his nose which the vet did look at, have started to bath it in salted water x
-
Sending Simba heaps of love and healing vibes xxx and   for you Caroline xxx
-
:thanks: Sheryl xx
-
Have rang the vets again this morning waiting for him to ring back.Has started to eat some chicken flavour cat food again which is better than having the tuna as tuna has more protein in it which isn't good for the kidneys if damaged. Can't understand why the vet never mentioned that when he should no that.Anyway will tell him when he rings, have hardley been having any sleep too! Keep checking that he is alright every 20 mins or so.He has been sleeping on our bed since he hasn't been well, still hasn't pooed yet!
-
I have been doing a bit of searching and there are doctors that don't think a low protein diet helps CRF and the low phosophorus part of renal foodis the important bit. They even believe restricting protein causes muscle wastage.
I hate the way they ended up making their conclusions. By removing part of a 28 cat's kidneys and giving them varying diets >:( - but the facts are there. This isn't the first time I have heard of renal food being questioned.

:hug:Simba
-
:thanks: Mark will have a look at the website, we are still waiting for Simba's blood results, that won't be here till Thursday (has been such a long wait)xx
-
:thanks: Maddiesmum xx
-
Caroline - hope you manage to get some answers
-
Any news yet Caroline - is there any way that you could maybe see a different vet.
Love and Luck for Simba xxxxx
-
Aw poor Simba from one extreme (tummy wise) to another.....C'mon Simba! ;)
-
:thanks: guys still waiting for the vet to ring! hubby is on the pc so just checking on here just for a min.He is going bck on it now, when he has finnished will let you know any news :Luv:
-
Hope Simba is feeling better  Its horrible waiting for blood tests isnt it?
-
It deffo is, still haven't heard from the vet :( hope he didn't ring when someone was talking to hubby earlier, saying that the vet has rung at 7.pm before. If he hasn't rang by then I will ring again.Simba does seem a lil bit better this afternoon but still not well. He has been outside in the cat run and had a poo.xx
-
fingers crossed! It's the worst thing, waiting for the phone to ring when you're worried. Hope his trip to his catrun and a poo (if normal, generally a good thing!) mean Simba's feeling a little stronger. I wouldn't be worried about chasing the vet if you're getting more and more anxious. He should understand that
-
:thanks: Swampmaxmum xx
-
Just rang again he is on his last appointment so shouldn't be long (hopefully) she said they don't check the books till they have finnished but I rang at 8.30 this morning before they even got in. Thanks for ringing me Sheryl it was really lovely to talk to you. xxx
-
Just spoken to the vet and he is gonna see if he can get the results tomorrow instead of Thursday! I asked the vet if all the antibiotics he has had since he was really young could of caused his kidneys to enlarged and he said they would more like make them shrink, and that they used the safest one (forgot what he said it was called) He is eating pilchards in tomato sauce at the moment cos he has hardly touch anything today. He seems to keep changing his mind what he wants. But he has to eat something, the stronger smelling the better the vet said. I told him that his two kidneys feel enlarged now but he said that could be cos he has lost so much weight, but I can still feel them. xxx
-
Lots of gentle strokes to Simba
-
:thanks: Gill xx
-
Good luck for the test results. My vet thinks protein is the most important thing, and the chicken flavour food i had Rosie on was one of the worst - I had a lot of brands of food in the house, and the ones that have the lowest protein tend to be in gravy.
-
:thanks: Desley,Do you think the Gravy ones are better than the jelly ones or the other way round? xx
-
They seem to be lower in protein - I had jelly, gravy and supermeat varities in one brand, and compared the three. Does all depend on how their tum reacts to it though. The lowest was Aldi food in gravy, and Tescos food was quite low. The premium brands seem to be higher in protein though.
-
:thanks: again Desley xx
-
Your welcome.
-
Sending positive vibes to Simba.
-
:thanks: you Pappilon gonna give him some more pilchards in a min xxx
-
Any news yet Caroline, still sending Simba love and healing vibes. xxxx Heaps of    for you xxxx
-
Nope no news yet but Simba seems to be getting worse again, will have to wait till tomorrow now :'( He wouldn't eat any more pilchards last night and can't get him to eat anything today, he is just lying around in our bedroom all the time. Now and again he make a tiny lil meow but thats it. I have an awful feeling that its not gonna be good news tomorrow. I just hope he isn't in any pain, I know cats hide their pain. :'(
-
Oh Caroline - he sounds so sad. I hope the vet can help.
-
Might try him on some cat milk we have left cos that is a food x
-
:thanks: Jackspratt just wanna cuddle him but he doesn't want that, just been lying beside him and willing him to get better xx
-
He has just drank some milk so I gave him a bit more and he started meowing for it, brought a bit of ham up for him to so will try that cos when we have had it before he usually tries and eats it but I thought it would be bad for him, but the vet recond it is fine.xx
-
He is eating a bit of that too! he seems to only eat different food at every meal time,if you give him the same food twice he has been turning his nose up.xx
-
Poor little Simba, please give him a gentle stroke from me and the boys
-
:thanks: Helen will do xxx
-
I would let him eat anything he wants, cos it sounds like he is hungry....just small quanties often.
I hope tomorrow will not be sad and that Simba starts to rally
-
If he is not eating, he needs to see the vet regardless of the test results, and I would also try and pick up some Hills A/D from them, it is a convalescing food that very few cats turn down.
-
Rang the vets about the test results and they are still not in >:( so I have to change the appointment till Fri afternoon now. :( will still ring up in the morning to c if they have come in, the vet even said the other day he was gonna see if he could rush them through a day earlier. (makes you think weather they are telling the truth) so fed up of waiting xxx
-
Oh I'm sorry to hear you have to wait even longer. Hope when the results are finally in they are ok.
-
I really cant believe the way your vets are treating you, please try to find another vet Caroline and get a second opinion for Simba. Take care Hun xxx
Huggles for Simba xxx

Seriously, change vets! How many times have they put you off now?
I hate it when vets mess you around. At the practice I use there's three vets who are really informative and upfront and then there's a Polish woman who speaks broken English. If you get her you can usually pick up one word in ten - not useful during a pet consultation. She was the one I saw last time and I ended up not understanding how long blood was viable for tests, so didn't organise a second test in time. LJ now has to go and have more blood drawn. >:( I'm going to insist I don't see her if she's on the next time I go.
I really hope Simba is OK today. Please give him a fuss from me if he feels up to it.
-
:thanks: very much Jackspratt will deffo give him a hug from you, the vet we have is usually really good,he helped us out with Felix when he was really bad and its some of the others there I have found not so good. If we change vets at this moment, that would mean we'd have to wait another week or so for the results and they wouldn't have all Simba's passed history,so it would prop delay everything, but thanks for all your advice, :Luv: Caroline x
-
He won't eat pilchards, salmon, ham, chicken, cat food I have, just wants to drink the cat milk! any more food ideas will try some egg next I think :(
-
Seriously they cant ignore him until his results are back, he doesnt sound well at all and may well benefit from being kept in on IV fluids.
I had to call it with George before his results were back(toughest decision iv had to make) and my vet supported me throughout, his results came back the next day but we couldnt have left him a day longer.
Good luck
-
Will ring again if he won't eat any egg :thanks:
-
I understand about the results Caroline but maybe a trip to another vets for a 2nd opininion to try and get him through today, he sounds so poorly and with not eating he will deteriorate really quickly and then even if the test results are okay it could be too late to help him - sorry to sound dramatic but I really think it is getting to a crucial stage. As MM says he may benefit from some IV fluids.
Take care Hun xxx
-
Poor Simba - he's having it rough. He's a pedigree, isn't he? I was just wondering if you'd been in touch with his breeder to see if any of their other kittens had any similiar health problems. (Sorry if you've already tried that avenue and I missed the post.)
I know how frustating it is to wait when you're really worried - I hope you're OK.
-
JS, simbas "breeder" fed him only on tuna, i remember caroline struggling to get him to eat a proper diet, so the other kittens are likely to have problems too :(
-
Have rang again our vet is gonna ring back at 1.30pm so gonna tell him that he is not eating at all now and if he needs to be put on a drip. Yes he is pedigree, the the breeder turned out to be no good, didn't want to know about anything in the past so I know she won't be bothered. It is prop her fault that Simba is suffering now.xx
-
Just come back from the vets the felv+fiv were negative, but still waitng for the results for fip which should be in sometime tomorrow,if thats negative more blood test plus taking a sample from his kidneys to see if its lyphona (spelt wrong) if it is and his kidneys are both not working enough he said they's nothing else they can do apart from a transplant. Because his both kidneys are so enlarged but I told him that days ago.He was given two injections one to help him want to eat and a antibiotic one to make him feel better,(again) he only charged us about £4 for everything today.xxx
-
good news about fiv and felv - not sure how fip tests work?? I hope they can give you guidence on the best thing to do
-
:thanks: Dawn
Wish it was just a bad dream and that I have just woken up and everything is all right xx
-
   to the both of you! Hope the jab help's with Simba's appetite! ;)
-
Fingers crossed it's not as bad as you think. I'm sure the jab will help.
Clapton was eating nothing when he had his - it kick started him and he hasn't stopped eating since
-
:thanks: Bazmum+ :thanks: Mark xxx
-
I hope the jabs perk him up
Hopefully his fcov titre will be ok, not heard of that causing enlarged kidneys.
Has he had basic bloods done before the external ones were done? Because if it was lymphoma i think it would affect his white blood cell levels. Im sure thats the only thing that showed up on ^taffys^ bloods when he had lymphoma.
-
He did have bloods taken once before with his ibd and he had more white blood cells then, but his kidneys and liver were fine at the time, think that was about 6to 8 months ago, should be on purrs somewhere xx
-
Found it
It was the 9th oct last year and the white cells were raised, but they never checked for cancer or anything else then. :(
-
Hi Caroline, Im so sorry that you and Simba are having to got through all this - you know where I am if you need a chat Hun xxx
In my experience if a vet is only charging £4 for a lot of expensive tests it says to me that they are feeling guilty about something!
-
We payed the £80 we owed but todays visited he only charged us about £4,The vet does no that we haven't got much money, and its has cost us a fortune since we have had him. I do know what you are saying though it does make you think xxx
-
Raised white cells can be a marker of any kind of infection too, not just cancer, and is probably why the vet gave him antibiotics. If it's convenia injection it can take a few days to work I think. I hope the appetite one works. I'm thinking of you and Simba, send big
-
Raised white cells can be a marker of any kind of infection too, not just cancer, and is probably why the vet gave him antibiotics.
Yep, why its stranger still he never had a stool sample tested when all this first kicked off.
Has he perked up yet caroline?
-
:thanks: Swampmaxmum
I know! don't know why! He is still the same Milly's mum :Luv: xx
-
I may be wrong but I didnt think there was a reliable test for FIP and I do agree that the vet is feeling guilty about something, maybe something that he did not do earlier enough.
I remember about the tuna now you mention it and think AD diet is worth a try, you could get one tin from the vet and see if Simba will eat it. Its made specially tasty for convalescing cats.
I am afraid I also second the new vet opinion too and they can have all Simbas history faxed over from your current vet.
I am pleased he is drinking the cat milk cos its better than nothing but he desperately needs to eat and I would have expected them to start giving him food via IV.
My bestest wishes to you and Simba and hope that he will be OK
-
:thanks: still waiting it will prop be around dinner (lunch) time that we find out, will ask the vet about the test because I have also read that you can't find a true result till after they have passed away.I just don't know now what to think about the vet,he was so helpful with Felix, I really thought he was trust worthy xxx
-
Vets can be strange I think. I would have trusted my old vet implicitly until three months before I had to have Dragan put to sleep. He let Dragan down big time and I luckily I changed vets and Dragan had three months of a much better life than he had for the previous three years under my old vet. Looking back I wish I had asked for a second opinion earlier but I trusted him.
-
:thanks: Maddiesmum xx
-
Good Luck for the test results today.....BIG  to you and Simba...hope he starts feeling better soon!
-
Not good news am afraid he has fip, and its really high (dry) he is just getting worse and even having treatment is not going to do anything so the vet said,I now he is right, I can sence it. Hubby has just took him to be pts, just can't bring myself to go have broken down so bad. I was there with Felix and that was to hard to cope with. Have said good bye to him and showed him the pict of felix so he can meet up with him. Sorry I just can't write any more, can't even see the keyboard prop xx
-
Sweetheart I'm so very sorry.
-
I'm so sorry Caroline.
RIP Sweet Simba play hard at the bridge, no more pain or illness, just happiness until your mum comes to meet you xxx

Caroline
I am so sorry that you are feeling so much pain right now; you have done everything possible for Simba and thanks to your last act of love he will suffer no more.
Take care
xTeresa
-
How awful. I'm so sorry, Caroline. You did everything you could and he will have known that and felt loved right up until the end.
RIP Simba.
-
I am so, so sorry.
-
Im so sorry Caroline
~RIP~ Simba
-
I am so very sorry Caroline poor Simba and poor you. My heart goes out to you at this sad time.
-
Caroline I'm so sorry to hear the news about Simba - I can't imagine how you must be feeling at the moment hun.
RIP Simba .... much loved and already sorely missed. Play hard baby and remember to look for Felix.
-
This is heartbreaking news and my heart goes out to you
RIP Simba, taken too young but loved so much.
I will add a bit to the title of the thread for you, cos I am sure you are not up to doing it.
You know we are all here for you when you are ready to talk
-
Oh Caroline I'm so very sorry  Its heartbreaking.
-
i am so very sorry to read this, I honestly didn't expect this when I checked the thread. RIP little one.
Caroline, I hope you tell the breeder about this, and hope she takes some notice for future litters.
-
Noooooooooo !
Oh caroline i'm so sorry
Dont know what else to say! xxxxxx
-
GUYS IAM IN SO MUCH SHOCK, i CAN'T BELIEVE SIMBA HAS GONE, I LOVED HIM SO MUCH XXX
-
We understand Caroline and am sure this will last for a time. Its such a hard thing to lose a cat but especially in circumstances like this.
You are among like minded friends here and so many have been where you are now. I know words dont help much right now but if you want to talk we are all hear for you
-
:thanks: you so much! but I can't stop crying! xxx
-
I am still like that every so often and its coming up to three years since Kocka went to the Bridge. All these sad threads bring it all back but it bonds us all together cos we understand so much how bad the pain is.
This is the first stage of the grieving process and so necessary to allow you to come to terms with Simbas loss. I was hurting so bad that I emailed a grief councellor at Blue Cross, I think it was and I also emailed CP cos I knew that I needed another cat immediately.
Each of us has different ways of coping but its hard so very hard :(
-
I really do no how hard it is! Simba was such a beautiful cat and didn't deserve to die so young. I will cherish him for ever and ever,we buried him in the garden with Ernie, felix and sooty, they were all beautiful cats which I will never forget!. But he was the youngest ever to go to the bridge. (still can't believe it) xx
-
Caroline, I'm so sorry to read this, I know it probably doesn't feel like it now, but we know what you are going through, I lost Pagan to FIP in December and am crying now for Simba and for Pagan. Life is cruel sometimes and you don't deserve this.
RIP Simba, play well at the Bridge with all our babies and send your mum a sign to say you are okay.
:candle:
-
Lesley did Pagen have enlarged kidneys. xx
-
So sorry to hear this :'(
:RIP: Little Man
-
Pagan was only with us for ten days - he became very listless, had no appetite, very jaundiced and I think his kidneys were enlarged but it's all a bit of a blur now. His coronavirus titre levels came back as over 10,260 I think it was, so although we never had a post mortem, (the only way to confirm FIP) our Vet said it was the most classic case he had ever seen and he had referred to another Vet in the practice, who had done a thesis on FIP and she concurred with his diagnosis. Although I have lost faith in one of the Vets at my Practice, Alan, who dealt with Pagan has my full trust.
-
:thanks: hOrZa xx
-
Lesley so sorry about your loss too! I am going to be so worried about my other cats now, but the vet told me not to be obsessed with it! (but you can't help it) it might not happen at all he said. There is no time limit to when or if ever they are going to catch it. He said he has cats himself that one hs had it and the others never caught it. But it is still a worry. Just hope we don't have to go through it again! (couldn't cope with any more heartache)xxx
-
Caroline, Roz had a little cat who had FIP and her other cats are fine....his was wet FIP I believe.
-
Simba had Dry Fip, still can't believe he is not here (my poor baby) xx
-
Caroline
I am so sorry to hear your news about Simba xxxx If you are worried you could have your other cats tested for corona virus but even if they have this it doesnt mean they will go on to develop FIP xxx. As Desley says you really need to notify this 'breeder' in writing of what has happened, if you are not comfortable with doing this id be more than happy to help you out xxx
Big hugs to you. Rest in peace darling boy xxxx
-
Oh Caroline, I'm So So Sorry
Simba is in a better place now, and is suffering no more
-
Sorry to hear the sad news Caroline......you did everything you could..
RIP Sweet Simba xxx
-
Oh no this is awful... :'(
Blessed be little one :Luv: ,
:RIP: Simba x x x
-
I lost a cat to FIP, and the other cat I had at the time had nearly 4 more years with me, so hopefully your other babes will be fine. The majority of cats who come into contact with the coronavirus will shake it off.
-
I've just seen this awful news and I'm so very, very sorry about little Simba. RIP and play hard on the bridge, little one. Sending you much sympathy and big hugs Caroline
-
So sorry to hear this Caroline, he was such a beautiful boy, I can't believe he has been taken from you so young  RIP little Simba xx
-
I'm so sorry to hear about little Simba, Caroline
RIP beautiful boy :RIP:
-
Oh noooooooooooo Just seen this. R.I.P Simba , Im sure you and Felix are having a whale of a time on the bridge. Caroline , I know exactly how you are feeling , I was in the same place three weeks ago. Just remember that you gave Simba a lifetime of love and in the end gave him the last kindness you could.
-
I've just seen this Caroline - can't believe it, I'm so sorry
-
:thanks: so much everyone, Still can't believe it myself,I keep thinking that would the vet have been able to give Simba anything while we were waiting a whole week for the results and his kidneys were getting worse, cos I did ring the vets up and told him the other kidney got big too! :'(
-
Oh Caroline.....you must try not to torture yourself........You kept in close contact with the vets, I am no expert on dry FIP but I very much doubt that anything done differently would of had a better outcome for darling Simba! :grouphug:
-
Its just so hard when lots of different things keep going through my head, keep reading up on Fip to see if there was something that could of been done for Simba,it is so confusing! Could of he had it when we got him from the breeder and it came out in him resently or one of our other Bengals shed the virus and he got it that way. Don't think he could of got it from Corky or Geri because they never went anywhere near their cat litter trays. xx
-
Please dont blame yourself Caroline, life can be so cruel and unfair sometimes. FIP are the three letters that strike fear into the hearts of every cat lover. You coulnt have done any more Hun and you gave him the kindest gift of love at the end. xxx You will probably never know where it came from and will drive yourself nuts trying to find answers, Simba knows how much you love him xxx
Thinking of you xxx
-
Hamish was diagnosed with CRF and 10 days later I had tp let Him go
I think We all go through the what if stage..........I did
if only they could talk :(
Please dont beat yourself up thinking on the what if's, and just remember
you gave Simba a loving home and everything he'd ever need
thinking of you
-
Sadly Caroline theres no way of controlling what happens once they are exposed, its down to their immune systems.
An affected cat can harbour it for months and then something just triggers it off.
-
As was said FIP is the most feared initials for a cat and it cannot be helped or cured and you gave Simba the most loving and caring decision
