My cat Oscar is 1yr old. He sometimes does these exaggerated swallows/gulps and i dont know why. Its not when he is eating.. i notice them when he is on my lap having a cuddle. Is it just him burping or swallowing for no particular reason or is it something to worry about? He is long haired so dont know if thats anything to do with it. When he does it there is no noise and he's never been sick so im a bit puzzled :-:

It could be many tihngs. if he is purring he may have problems swallowing at the same time.
He could have some hair in her throat, or some grass or a bit of food (bone) stuck in there. It could be worms or it could be something more than that like a throat infection ...... and so it goes on.
Just keep an eye on him (as I'm sure you do anyway) and if he seems off colour get him to the vets. Has he be wormed recently?

Sam was doing the same thing the other night. I assumed she had something stuck at the back of her throat, so let her go out to eat some grass. She's fine now. I haven't found the vomit yet!

Katie does this as well and it tends to be when she's relaxing. I've never really checked it out as she's been doing it ever since I got her (2 years ago), and it's never lead to anything!
