Have had a phone call this morning from a lady in Portsmouth. Her friend is moving down from London to escape a violent relationship and is bringing her cat with her. Unfortunately, the lady who phoned who will putting her up is very allergic to cats so they are looking for a foster home for kitty until the lady has settled down here; time limit obviously unknown at the moment.
The kitty is a 7 year old tortie, neutered, vaccinated and chipped. Quite a nervous little girl and not sure how she is with other cats.
If anyone can help, please pm me and I will pass on phone numbers etc.

Isn't there an organisation for animals in this situation? I think it's called Paws.

Have PM'd you... may have 2 potential helpers- Me or a guy who has fostered cats before. Am waiting for a reply from him, will contact you soon about this.

It's an annoying situation, as there are schemes out there but will only help if the woman goes into a refuge. The RSPCA pet retreat covers Hampshire and will foster for 6 months BUT want's written conformation of acceptance at a refuge first! I've offered to take her short-term if all else fails until we can find something a little more solid ( I might be able to do longer, but it depends on the furbabes reactions :Crazy:)- we're possibly looking at 3-6 months here...... it's hard work round here finding rental places that will let you have a cat, but i've managed it!
Lesley and I have put tendrils out so fingers crossed, but if anyone else in the area can offer a long term solution your hand will be snapped off ;D

The lady and kitty are apparently on thier way down tomorrow, so you can see why theres all this rush :Crazy:
Just had a thought guys- transport can be arranged to you no problem if you can offer a place( I have a very nice shiny Ford Focus ;)), just PM either me or Lesley.

We have been given a bit of time here as lady is not coming down until Tuesday now. OH has taken time off work and as she is doing a runner, she can't do it while he is at home :scared:
Koscha has been a star here and has some contacts she is trying but if anyone else has any ideas, they are always welcome. Have given them the name of Woman Aid in Portsmouth who deal with domestic violence and hopefully they may have some fosterers but this seems to vary greatly throughout the country.

Thanks JS, looked at that one last night as well, seems to be mainly Midlands etc but will pass details on to Alison later so that she can try them as well. The other trouble with that one is they seem to find fosterers for people who are staying in their refuges and Alison's friend does not want to go to a refuge.

Oh, I wish I could help. Of course the length of the foster is unknown so it would be difficult to gage. Besides Martha is having a 'wee' problem with Malena around, who today is more skittish than before...no idea why but she has been running away all evening. Found a puddle and a spray today- not happy. Hope the tortie finds a temp home though and the woman a place to stay. Brave to get out of a situation like that.

good luck with this Lesley, it mustbe very hard for the lady concerned, but good on her for finding the courage to make the move away.

I am pleased to report that with massive assistance from Koscha, in fact she did most of the legwork, Trixie the Tortie is going to stay with her tomorrow night. Koscha may have a fosterer lined up or Trixie will stay with her for the time being, so another kitty in safe keeping.
