Help!! :ooops:
I've just take posession of these little beauties. :blow kiss: Mum is a tiny wee scrap of a thing aged around 9 months. Her babies are adorable, but there smaller than I've ever cared for before. The woman we collected them from says they're 4 weeks. Shouldn't they be eating solids, or at least trying to? :Dont know:
I haven't got them for long, only a few days, until a more experienced fosterer can take them, but can I do anything to encourage the little ones to eat solids? :shy: Mum is so tiny and frail and I'm sure the kittens aren't getting enough nourishment. :(

Lesley has a phone number on cat chat, maybe you could ring her
-
Hi,
Mum looks like she may have some Oriental type in her background but babies do look as if they should be on solids by now.
Best way usually is to feed mum kitten food and let babes share it
You could try Hill's A/D as it is a soft moist pate and very nutricious you can but it at most vets.Try just pressing a small amout into the babies mouths so they get the taste and warming food also helps to make it smell good too.

Good for Pinkbear picking these up today, its been a very long tiring journey.. Only last night I was on the phone to the person caring for these ones, the mum belonged to a neighbour who didnt really want her, but she had kittens in the other ladies house and then her neighbour changed her tune.. Half hour on the phone, explaining how irresponsible her neighbour had been letting her have kittens at that young age, and the audacity of her asking to take kittens back.. Anyhow, in the end we got them signed over..but they do indeed look wee small ones. I did ring up one of our volunteers who knows the lady caring for Shrimp *the mum" and they are def 4wks old as they have it written down.
-
At four weeks will not necessarily be eating solids, I would try them with a bottle first - cimicat, royal canin or Lactol GOLD for kittens (my preferred choice lately), just to get nourishment in them and if you can get them on that then what I do is mix Whiskas kitten (the loaf that comes in tins) with the milk so it is the milk consistency and bottle feed that to them to get them used to the flavour of solids before putting sloppy solids down for them.
If you want to pm me or give me a phone let me know.
I know when I had my mums from Liverpool some of their babes would not try solids until they were 5/6 weeks old whereas others started at four weeks so it all depends on the individual kitten I think.

All totally adorable :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
-
Thanks for the tips, Lesley. I may well call upon you if it all goes pear shaped. ;)
I'm not worried about these babies or mum healthwise, but in my opinion mum needs a break as she's so young and still growing herself. I shall be off soon to get some cimicat and some feeders from our vet soon. The vet nurse also said we can try weaning anytime from this age, so that's what we'll do. :)
I'll keep you all posted... but aren't they scrummy!! :wow: :briggin:

Call on my anytime, either pm me or my number is on CatChat under Hampshire re-homing. :Luv2:
They are definitely scrummy. :Luv:
Good luck with the weaning - and be prepared for the mess, totallly scrummy babes become amazingly yucky babes sometimes after walking, playing, sleeping and sucking up their food. :evillaugh:
-
Well, I am now armed and ready! Donna the nurse vet has given me some Royal Canin Recovery food, which she says is good for mum as well as the weaning. She recommends mixing it with water to make it really thin and offering that in a bottle.
She also says, like you Lesley, that they tend to try the breast stroke in it before they try eating it.
-
awww they are just adorable PB... good luck with them while you have them. If mum still has milk and they are still suckling then you're looking to top them up.
Nothing to add... Lesley has offered up exactly what I would've said already. Keep a good supply of towels ready for drying them off after swimming in their dinner. I have 3 4 week olds here at the moment who are all white and blacks... although after having just had their tea they are a nice shade of orange and white! lol
they are just sooo scrummy at that age though aren't they? love mum too... what an adorable tortie... poor thing though having to go through all this when she is just a baby herself!
-
More pics! :briggin:
The poor little Tortie always seems to be at the bottom of the pile. She's much smaller than her brothers. :( :Luv:
They've had a bottle between them so far, which will help a tad, but it's a struggle trying to get them to understand what it's for. We're having another go shortly. :naughty:

Aww, fingers crossed for them. And thank god mum is safe now, and doesn't have to go through this again.
-
I thought I would try my luck just before bedtime and offer the kittens some mush on my fingers. Two started licking straight off and another one went for it BIG time and nearly had the tip on my finger off. Then I led him to the bowl and his little snout was in there like a flash, he polished off all that then went for his mum's dinner.  :briggin:
I guess I know why 2 of them are so much smaller than the others - these are the ones that wouldn't touch the mush. Anyway, we've established what the challenge is. :sneaky: ;)
-
Poor little tortie kitten, those gingers .......all boys maybe are so greedy
They are so sweet and poor little shrimp needs some good food for herself.
-
Oh what scrummy babies and mum is adorable..... :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
Good Luck PB with these bundles of fun!
-
Aw, they're gorgeous, and poor mom, she has that long-suffering look on her face! Good luck getting them to eat, our little Sam goes at it, just little meals (and lots of them) so far, but he's bigger then these guys. I do mix in warm water with his food to make certain he's staying hydrated.

We're running an Ebay auction to name these little monkeys. ;) It was Sharon's idea as money is always tight in these parts. For details, see the link under my posts. Here's one of the pics that were using. The winning bidder will get a certificate that Sharon is designing plus a little update on their progress in a couple of weeks. :wow:

What a fab idea! :wow:
Hope you make lots of money out of it for these little ones!
-
:sneaky: so whoever wins gets to name the kitten AND you have to accept it... :innocent:

:sneaky: so whoever wins gets to name the kitten AND you have to accept it... :innocent:
That's the plan. We do ask for sensible names only. We can't use names that are offensive, for example... but I am dreading some of the names we could be lumbered with.
-
Since you've stated it in the description, if the person who wins names the kitten with an offensive or inappropriate name you can cancel the bid. Something tells me it won't happen (I have a great name picked out already so have to win!!!)
-
They will probably only have the names for a few weeks anyway :evillaugh:
I may have to come over next week and inspect :shify:
-
:no no: hands off, he's mine!
-
Now, now, children! :evillaugh:
Mark, I'm delivering mum and kits to Sharon on Sunday. Mum is not best pleased being shut in my bathroom, so it's been decided she'll be happier over there as there's much more room. I don't expect for a minute that Sharon would object to an upclose inspection. :sneaky:
-
fabby idea! glad to hear that they are all doing ok. :)
-
The Ebay idea seems to be going really well! Three of the kittens have 'bids' on them and quite a battle going on to name the tiny whiter one. :Luv:
The good news is that a couple have now started to eat from the bowl, and one of the gingers even shoved his mum out of the way and pinched her food. :evillaugh:
-
Aww, bless them.
-
Ok done it - caught the pig in the trap this morning and I feel over the moon :yayyy: :yayyy:
AND named two kittens to boot :yesss: two of the little boys on the buy it now Ginger Snaps (appropriately I thought) and Ziggy Stardust, hope you like the names and if you don't Tough I do, my choice and I don't get the choice in this house when it comes to choosing pet names I am always over ruled :-[
:Flowers:
-
Yvonne, you are an absolute angel!! :blow kiss: :blow kiss: :happy dance: :Flowers:
Ginger Snaps and Ziggy Stardust thank you too as they are now proper little kittens with real names! :wow: :naughty: We'll send you a proper letter of thanks soon and Sharon will also prepare a certificate in PDF form. If you can't open PDF, I'll print it out and post. You also get an update just before they are rehomed. ;)
I am so pleased you got your piggy back. Please him an extra cuddle from me. :briggin:
-
Ok me confused. Just got a notification from ebay saying I'd won the kitten naming bid. :scared: But Yvonne has already won it right as she used Buy It Now?
I gather no more kittens to name?
-
I think there wee 4 (or 5?) kittens - 2 were BIN and the others we done auction style. :evillaugh:
-
Wow!!
Ruth, thank you so much for your kind payment. Another £10 :wow: :Luv2: So, Ruth, what shall this little darlin' be called, then? :naughty:
I will respond to everyone who bought a kitten name via the official Ebay thing later tonight. But just want to say I'm stunned here as Sharon's idea of doing this has netted nearly £44.00 towards getting these angels vac'd. You are all absolute stars!! :blow kiss: :cuddle:
-
Ah gotcha.
Ok, how's about: Rio.
-
All kittens are now with me as we have a much bigger pen.. There are 5 in total... Four males i think and one female.. There is some gossip that mum "may" be pregnant again.. No one knows for sure... so i may have to take them all down the vets this week for a check up... and mum...All are eating solids and mum wants to be out and about, a real Paris Hilton that one... !
Anyone on Purrs who bid on ebay can you let Pinkbear know names pls and then i will set about doing a naming certificate for you all...
Thanks people.... i look forward to christining them...
-
Excellent choice, Ruth. The certificate will be on it's way in the post soon. ;)

I have better but the people that bid for naming them, i have send a colour photograph of their choosen kitten in the post to you.. So want to make sure they get it before i post other photos.... All are doing well... although still abit small...We havnt worked out what ones are to go in pairs yet.. We would like mum to go with a kitten.. but tell the truth i dont think she is too bothered... I havnt seen one that is particular a mummies boy yet and the Rosina the tortie seems to be very independant.
