Woke up this morning to a lovely surprise, poor Henry had thrown up everywhere and just as I cleaned it up so he could get back in his favourite places. When he moved realised he had had runny bum syndrome as well. Vet has advised removing all food and seeing how he gets on which he is going to hate!!! Cooking up some chicken for later but my man loves his food so poor puss is going to be miserable (esp considering my next job after removing poo and sick from 90% of living room is cleaning him up).
So mummy is going to be in bad books, hoping chicken well help get me back in good books :naughty:
ps how long should I withhold food meant to ask vet but forgot and don't want to call back so soon lol (his last meal was around 10-11)
-
Sorry, nothing useful to advise but just wanted to send  to poopy Henry and hope he's ok soon.
-
Ahhh poor lad .... not sure how long to withhold food .... but if he is feeling poorly he probably won't be that interested anyway. I would offer a small amount of chicken later on this evening and see how it goes.
Make sure your boy is drinking plenty of water ... if he is runny and sick he can get dehydrated.
Sending gentle hugs to Henry  and lots of get well wishes xxxx
-
Good news is he hasn't been sick again ;D
Been keeping really close eye on him and vet says not to worry unless he continues being sick, he hasn't asked for food yet but been offering lots of water. Poor man is just lying on his chair so been a proper slave and brought the bowl to him to make sure he drinks.
Thanks for the snuggles I'll be sure and pass them on :Luv2:
-
Sending lots of snuggles for Henry  Hopefully a little chicken tonight will go down well. He may just be under the weather or have picked up a bug. If he's still unwell tomorrow, I'd take him to the vet, but he might be right as rain by then! Fingers crossed it's just a 24 hour thing.
-
I hoping he doesn't need vet he really hates going in his carrier (what cat doesn't) good news is he hasn't been sick since I got up around 8am so hoping for the best. However he hasn't moved from the couch and only drinking water when I offer him the bowl but I think he is just lapping up the attention while he can. Offered a small piece of chicken which was declined after giving it a lick. Charley gave him a lick which was nice of him as they normally hate each. Henry was too fed up to care.
Sorry for going on about him. Suffering from new mum worrying. I do think it's just a bug and the worst seems to be over but will no doubt worry until he is eating properly and back to normal.
-
Hope Henry is feeling better now, please give him a gentle head kiss from me and the boys
-
Aw, poor Henry; hope he's feeling better soon!
-
If he still isnt esting and moving around tomorrow I would dfinately take him to vets cos he prob just needs an antibiotics injection.
Hope Henry is back to normal asap
-
Sending positive healing vibes for Henry, hope he gets better soon~~~~~
-
Chicken has been eaten, also had a little wander and a hiss at Charley so hopefully we are back on track. Drinking lots, not been for number 2's so can't check runny bum status but outlook is good and mummy can breath again!!!
Thanks for happy thoughts and listening. :Luv:
-
I know I said outlook seemed good but I changed my mind :scared:
For last couple of days his mouth seemed to be swolled but OH said he couldn't see it, tonight he called me through to ask which side and on closer examination his lip does seem to be swollen and now looks like it has a small cut. Decided we are going to the vet I am possibly overreacting but when he was last at vet they took blood said his kidney eynzmes were abnormal and put him on foretkor. Naturally when I found out what it was used for I looked up CRF so I knew what to look for should it get worse.
On their own they don't look like much but together I'm concerned. He has been twitching, clear sick after poo, sneezing and once or twice his legs have kinda buckled (not so he falls over just a tiny little bit) He often seems to be in pain when doing number 2's as he produces quite hard lumps. Coupled with what happened today I'm not risking it, although he ate today he did leave food which I don't think has happened before. He asked for food then left it (gave him more chicken). Most of this has happened slowly over last 2 weeks. I hoping the vet tells me I'm overeacting and too stop calling, or maybe he just can't eat with a sore mouth.
Now I just need to explain to my sister why I may not be able to babysit tomorrow night.....
-
Fingers crossed it is nothing serious, but I do think you are right in doing a vet visit.
-
I don't think you are overreacting at all. I hope it's nothing serious as well. As for your sister, sounds like you are already baby sitting little Henry! good luck at the vets.
-
Good luck at the vets today
-
Sending positive vibes for the vets today~~~~~~Good Luck! :)
-
Sending you lots of :Luv: and  and good luck at the vets from me too xxx

Just back from vets. Vet looked at his mouth and agreed it does look sore and inflammed but is reluctant to do a dental because of his kidney probelms. He also can't say if his sore mouth is perhaps his kidneys getting worse in which case he won't benefit from a dental.
He has been given 2 injections, an antibotic one and a steroid one which should improve his condition so vet can decide on Monday if he is well enough for a dental. Again because of his age and kidney issues vet advised he may not be strong enough to survive the operation. Also the steroid could possibly make him worse.
If the injections work we should see an improvement tonight so off to get some nice soft food for him to munch on as we are hoping for the best.
Seem to be in a catch 22 situation, dental could be really dangerous for him but do I really want to leave him with a sore mouth forever. Thankfully I have til Monday to decide.
-
difficult one - I suppose all you can do is take the vets advice - good luck Henry
-
Send all my best wishes to Henry - and lots bof hugs to his mummy!
-
Injections seemed to have perked him up which is making me lot happier and he is eating his second pouch of food since we got back.
Everyone is rooting for my wee man, CPL pay for Henry due to his age on adopting, I made a quick call to let them know we needed to take him in and our home-checker and his old fosterer have phoned already to check on his status. Even my mum hopes for the best (even though she doesn't like cats) she has kidney problems himself and even suggested sneaking him along on her next trip for dialysis. And of course everyone here on Purrs :Luv:
Just need to take it one day at a time, will worry about having to decide on Monday sometime around Saturday.
-
Oh that is good news! ;D Sending more positive vibes to keep him on track!~~~~~
-
Aww, I do hope things work out for the best
-
me too. Sometimes the antibiotics can help heal mouth pain a bit too, so hope he doesn't need a dental. Sounds like something's helping if he ate 2 pouches. All the best.
-
From me too! lots of snuggles to you both xxx
-
Crossing every thing for you and Henry!

*update*
Another mishap last night, he was sick and had a runny bum again. I think he was constipated poor guy he's trying to go but only passing a runny liquid. He kept being sick after trying and after 6 trips to tray he just lay on the floor feeling sorry for himself. The next time the urge took him he just lay there but moved his legs to help try pass his poo (sorry for the picture I just painted). I honestly thought I was watching his last hours and just as I had phone in my hand to call vet he picked himself up and managed to do a really big poo (again sorry if you are eating) as if to say "no more vets watch me go I'm ok here". He missed the tray but I don't care we have laminate flooring so its wipe clean (he usually picks the carpet >:( )
So it was another sleepless night and feel like I'm on a rollercoaster. At the moment things seem fine, had dinner and breakfast and he let me give him a good clean up. Feel like I'm tempting fate though everytime I say things are fine something happens >:(
-
Aww, fingers crossed it was a one off. If he is having trouble going, you might want to get some Lactulose from the chemist (I get the human stuff for Molly), to help things for him. IT is normal for cats with kidney issues to get constipation.
-
Poor Henry  Fingers crossed he really is on the mend now. It must be very stressful for you. It's awful when they're ill.
-
I know what you mean, you post that things are better and then something happens. I hope the vet can sort out his tum, with Diarsanyl paste (they hate it but it seems to help) and I think Lactulose is wonderful stuff (the cats don't!). My vet thinks that it could also help a bit with purging the body of urea toxins.
Good luck
-
He's doing so much better today and despite Charley's best efforts (ie batting him on the head while he was on the tray) managed to go again. Gonna pick up some lactulose today though for any future occurrences. Eating has been good as well as long as it's in gravy.
Back to vet's on Monday to asses mouth condition and take it from there.
-
Aw...Sending more healing vibes for Henry~~~~~~~
-
Lots of healing vibes from me too! :Luv:

How abnormal are his readings? A drip before and during a dental makes a big difference and theres much better GAs around these days.
My aunts 14yr old cat has high readings but they decided to go ahead and he had 6 teeth out and the difference is amazing! He also had fluids
-
If we go ahead with the dental the vet mentioned he will most def have a drip before and during. As for his readings we haven't been able to see them but going to ask to on Monday. I did mean to ask on Wednesday but I had so much stuff I wanted to mention it slipped my mind.
Have noticed one eye doesn't seem to be focusing well, the pupil doesn't match with the other unless he is looking at something close up. >:(
-
Defo get that looked at on Mon, unless you can get in at the vets tomorrow. Eye issues can be linked with high blood pressure but there is treatment if they are picked up quickly. Good luck for him.
-
I thought the eye issue might be linked to his thyroid. Poor wee man no wonder he has high blood pressure with all he has been through.
-
:-[ Poor Henry .... hope it can be sorted soon. Get well soon baby xxxx
-
Hope Henry is feeling better soon
-
has the vet done that blue (or is it green?) eye drops test on Henry? They can see quite a lot including the effects of high bp. Hope Henry feels much better asap.
-
Eye thing is new, only happened over last day or so. It could even be a side effect of the drugs. I just hope the vet looks from a distance, if he goes close both eyes look the same.
-
My little guy goes for his check up tomorrow to see if he needs a dental. I'm not sure what to do if he doesn't, the injections worked great but what happens when they wear off?? The vet even suggested that it could just be that my guy is reaching end stage CRF (I never heard this too busy cringing in corner at him getting temp taken OH mentioned it last night). I find this hard to believe though he had blood taken 3 months ago while with cpl and it showed nothing and 2 months ago got put on forektor after 2nd bloods taken so find it hard to believe he can go to end stage so quickly.
Feeling good about tomorrow though he has come on in leaps and bounds, he's even eating biscuits which he never did before. Posting a piccie of the wee trooper as I know we love our pics so naturally the best way Henry can say thanks for happy thoughts is to look cute as hell for a picture!!!

-
Good luck for tomorrow, and I hope things aren't too bad, it would be odd to get so bad so quickly. I would be tempted to restrict dry food for him, as it makes the kidneys work harder.
-
Just got back from vets, couldn't make it yesterday as OH couldn't get out of bed due to back pain and it takes 2 of us in car, we decided to go ahead with the dental. Henry is back to just licking his food last day or 2 so it looks like it he is still in pain. I'm really worried about him as it will place a strain on his kidneys but vet has given him something now and will keep him on a drip before op. I know I'm taking a risk but he is so small and skinny that if he stops eating because of his mouth he could get worse anyway.
Keeping everything crossed for Thursday, I'm gonna be a wreck.
-
Really hope evrything goes OK for him :luck: My cat Tiggy had a dental when she was around Henry's age, the change in her was amazing. I'm sure Henry will feel lots better when it's done. Will be thinking of you both on Thursday
-
I hope every thing goes well for Henry and I am sure it will
-
Aww, I hope everything goes well for him on Thurs.
-
Well just got back from taking him to the vet and boy was he in a mood this morning. Vet requested no morning feed so at 2am we removed the dry etc. At about 3am he started crying for food and just didn't stop so it was a long night and weird considering all he has done for 2 days is lick gravy with the occasional dry. To make matters worse poor guy had to have his tablet without food, we tried putting it in a little cheese, then dairylea then coating it butter but he was having none of it so gave it to vet to try :shify:
To make matters worse the vet we saw thought he was in for a demat instead of a dental but once we asked when he would need full bloods and a drip for a demat on a shorthaired cat she spoke to the last vet. Not really what you want to hear when you are running on no sleep and worried sick!!!!!
Now I just need to wait til 3 to find out how his bloods were and if his kidneys are ok enough for them to go ahead so fingers crossed!
-
Fingers and toes crossed here
-
All ours are crossed too! including our five puddycats. good luck xxx
-
:luck: Henry
-
Vet phoned, his kidney levels have gone up slightly but not as much as they would like so keeping him on the drip for 24 hours before putting him under. They said he wasn't eating but suggested giving him some stuff in gravy ( I knew I should have given them his favourite whiskas chicken in gravy >:( ) so hopefully he at least licks that.
-
all the best for poor Henry (and you) and keep us posted on how he's doing. maybe he'll eat a bit later when the drip's made him feel a bit better and he's got more used to being in hospital? Hope so. :luck: Henry.
-
Any news?
-
Aww, fingers crossed for him.
-
How's the patient doing?
-
Hope everything went okay at the vets!
-
No news as yet, I was asked not to call til morning and they would call if anything happened, so far no news is good news. I hope he is eating he really can't afford to lose any weight.
-
Hope Henry is Ok ...............I find it strange that they are trying to stop you ringing or visiting even cos cats always do better when their humans visit.
I would be ringing as soon as they open tomorrow
-
Yeah I really wanted to go see how he was getting on and because he wasn't eating it made me worry more than I was, I'll be awake and waiting at 8.30 to find out how my guy is. Probaly on the "anxious parent list" made so many calls to the vet esp as he gets sick a lot. Also called CPL quite a bit as well but thats more of a courtesy call to let them know how he is doing.
-
Vets should understand that their patients owners are also patients and are likely to be worried about ther animal cos its a memebrer of their family.
I know its hard but try not to worry
-
Any news on Henry? Got everything crossed for him :luck:
-
Called first thing and told he was fine and ready for dental. Just called now and he has had his dental and awake. Going to pick him at 6.20. Can't wait to get my boy back and give him a proper fuss. Was wondering though anything special I should pick up for him. I remember how sore my mouth has been after having teeth out or should I keep feeding him his normal??
-
i'm sure he's love something nice and soft for his first night back home ..... like a nice big bag of prawns :evillaugh:
-
good news! I would see how he gets on with his normal food first and give him something nice and soft as a treat as well to reward him for being such a brave boy. Not sure how much he'll want to eat if his mouth's sore?
-
So glad that everything went well give Henry lots of hugs from me and my bunch xxx
-
Yay, so pleased that everything went well today, give him a had tickle from me and Max :Luv:
When Max had his dental a few years ago, they said he probably wouldn't be hungry and to give him bland food for a day or two ........... first thing he did when he came out his carrier was to sit by his food bowl waiting, and he polished a pouch in one go, and half of another one :evillaugh:
-
I have my wee man back :D
He def has his appetite back, he sat by food bowl waiting and by time I had come through with some chicken I had loving cooked and shredded into tiny bits he was half finished Charley's biscuits. Moved the biscuits for now and he's chomping away at his chicken and drinking lots of water. One of his legs is a little swollen where he pulled at the drip but apart from that you would never think he had been away. Poor Charley has been banished to the bedroom with his chicken as he pesters Henry so much I was barely in the door and he was all over the carrier so giving Henry some much needed peace and quiet.
Thanks for all the happy thoughts, very much appreciated would have been climbing the walls without my purrs people. :Luv2:
-
So pleased that Henry is back and things went well
-
Glad that he is doing well
-
Glad that he is doing so well, I remember after Ginger's second dental, I Went and bought him some nice pate food - he promptly ate Snowy's biscuits instead!! And then demanded to go out, but I didn't let him, you could see he still had anaesthetic in his system!! I have only had 2 issues with cats after dentals, and think I am up to double figures now.
-
I think the pain before the dental is much worse than afterwards and thats why most cats are so enthusiastic about tucking into their food! ;)
Glad the op went well and he is obviously feeling much better! ;D
