Title: Advantage - using smaller size for cat over 4kg?
Post by: Susanne (urbantigers) on April 21, 2008, 18:19:58 PM
Jaffa weighs 4.8 kg - can I get away with using the Advantage treatment for cats under 4kg?  Or do I really need to use the one for cats over 4kg?  They come in packs of 4 and I don't like having to buy 4 of the under 4kg for Mosi and 4 of the other ones for Jaffa at the same time.  He doesn't have fleas - it's just as a preventative.

You really should use the one that is correct for his size cos it wont work prperly otherwise.

We use Advantage on Jameson too - I would say you'd be ok to use that one for Jaffa if it's a one off thing- he is an indoor cat isn't he? Although in the future I think you should buy the correct one for him.

If its just for preventative then I cant see the harm in it!  ;)

I would agree with Bazsmum as it is just preventitive.

I'm assuming it will still work, even if the dose isn't quite enough to get rid of fleas.  But it's just preventative and he's an indoor cat.  I just like to do him when the weather gets warmer then again late summer as a preventative thing.  But having said that, Mosi is due at the vets for his vaccinations in the next week or 2 so I'm going to hold off getting it until then.  I  might find out that Mosi is over 4kg as he's not been weighed for a while.  Or he might be close enough to 4kg for it to be safe to use the one for over 4kg on them both.  I will ask the vet's advice but I'm a bit wary as I'm sure they'll advise me to get both sizes and therefore buy 8 vials of the stuff instead of 4!
