Title: How many cat years make a year?
Post by: JackSpratt on April 20, 2008, 15:44:17 PM
Hmmm.....not sure I put that right! Anyway, how do you work out a cats age in "cat years?" :innocent:

I can't remember fully, it is so many for the first 3 years - it might be 6, then it goes down to 4 a year. I would go and get the chart from downstairs, but Molly is on my knee, and dont want to upset her.

I always thought it was seven, but I suspect that is dogs. But it does not apply consistently through their lives. Many vets have a table on the waiting room wall that helps you work it out ...

No idea if it's right of course but that means Tom is only 78

That is the old way of thinking - it is now different in cats, but dont know about dogs. Molly has got off my knee, so I have got my leaflet now - it is one of the old CP ones. It is 12 for the first two years, then goes down to 4. So Molly and Rosie (15) are 76, Zi (!7) is 83). If you want me to post equivalents for you, let me know the ages and I will do - I am only on for another 15 mins, but will pop back on later.

Interesting! That makes Jameson 24 y.o!

I thought it was similar to dogs, where they used to work out 1 doggy year = 7 human years.

I always thought it was 7 years too!  V interesting ... that makes Bertie and Bella a bit older than I thought, and Minnie a bit younger.

With regard to that Messy Beast chart - a 43-year-old cat being hit by a train?!
