We "inherited" a kitten yesterday, he is around 7-8 weeks old. Now, before everyone jumps on me because kittens should only be rehomed at 12 weeks + (which I understand and generally agree with), coming with us now was the best option for this little fellow, as he had a very uncertain immediate future. I've had cats most of my life, including very little kittens, so I'm more than a little glad we could get this little bloke out of the situation he was in.
He's cute as a bug, and not named yet (I like to watch them for a while before giving a name), although Sam, Otis, and Elvis are front runners, as are Figaro and Buster. He's eating, peeing, pooping (no litterbox problems, yay!), playing, and snoozing just fine (sleeping in his little bed next to radiator at the moment). The rest of the feline family are keeping a close eye on him through the glass door. He sees our vet on Thursday morning (no appointments sooner, unfortunately). So I hope he's as healthy as he seems, and I really hope the rest of our cat family will warm up to him!

He is gorgeous! Hope he settles well with the rest of the family! :Luv2:
-
Yikes, he is supercute :Luv: You're right though - he should not be coming to live with you so young.... he should be coming to live with ME :evillaugh: I think 8 weeks is the minimum so he's not too far off and as you say better to be loved and cared for at that age than whatever the alternative was. I think he suits the name Sam :)

Aww what a cute little gingerbread man! :Luv: :Luv: I have such a soft spot for ginger boys :Luv2: :Luv2: I agree with Helen that he shouldn't be living with you at that age, but he shouldn't be with her either. He should be with me of course. I want him! ;D I think Sam suits him too but I'm like you with names - I like to let them try a few on for size before I decide. Mosi was Finn, Rory and a few others before we settled on Mosi (can't imagine him as anything else now).

Oh, he's gorgeous and so like Bertie was at that age. Bertie was six weeks when he came to live with me (his mother had to be spayed and turned on the kittens after the op so they were rehomed to prevent them being harmed) - therefore I have experience of very small kittens and would be delighted to take this bundle of ginger loveliness off your hands :Luv2:

Awww he is lovely. :Luv: He does look healthy . Good luck with new kitty.

Aw bless his gingerness! :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

If you are after some "colour" names this link may help: http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/names/colournames.htm

Thanks for the kind words! :wow:
His gingerness is out cold in his little cat bed, snoozing away after a big lunch. He's eating well (I'm mashing up Felix kitten packet), drinking a bit of water (I'm adding a bit to the jelly in his wet food), everything is recycling out the other end  . I can't find a flea on him and his ears look pretty clean; he's trying to wash himself but gets distracted fooling around with his tail, as boys will do, heh heh!
I'd rather he was with his mother a couple more weeks, but better with us now than dumped out or hurt by yobs with dogs.
His name is still finding him.... :Luv2:

Beautiful - absolutely gorgeous! :Luv: At least you have him at an age where it is still relatively easy to socialise him - don't suppose the previous people would have helped with that. Awwww ... I want to eat him up! And he does look more like a Sam than any of the other names - I have to agree with the gang here!
-
he reminds me of soxs and patch when we first got them oh now you've gone and done it i want the ginger fluffyness hope he settles in well
-
he is just yummy and reckon gingerbread is just the right name ;D
-
Awwww, he is such a cutie :Luv:
I think he looks like a Boris :Luv:
-
He's gorgeous and from that pic does look very healthy :Luv:
You could get some cimicat milk formula from the vets if you wanted just incase his nutrition hadnt been that great before coming to you and of course he should be wormed monthly for a wee while too.
I dunno why but he looks like a Louie to me :)
-
He's just lovely :Luv:
Hope his first vet check goes well. Have to say he looks like a Boris to me.
-
Yeah, he's a cutie, isn't he?
I think he chose his name, looks like it's "Sam" (or Sammy, for a little guy, until he grows a bit). I do like Boris, and loved Otis as well, but he seems to be partial to Sam or Sammy.
His poop is soft this morning, but not runny, but it cracks me up how he gets in the litter box, digs like mad, squats, meows, digs some more, squats, meows, turns around, digs some more...etc....etc.
-
Well,
Hello Sammy you cute little man!!
The litter thing sounds like it's fine. At least he isn't as bad as a cat I had when growing up, used to spend 20 mins diggng a perfect hole, place front paws in it and poo over the edge of the litter tray. Then spent 20 mins carefully filling in the empty hole
Awww let us know how he goes :Luv2:

Hi everyone!
Well, first and most important, kitten seems to have chosen his name, and the winner is "Sam". I call him Sammy (since he's such a little kid). He appears to respond to it, OH likes it too, so I suppose Sam/Sammy it is!
Sam went for his first vet check this morning and charmed the entire staff in reception, our vet, and the nurses as well! His age was most definitely over-estimated, as the vet agreed with me he's right around 6 weeks, not almost 9 weeks, so we'll wait 3 more weeks for his first vaccinations. He's in great condition, fit as a fiddle, poo is improving, good appetite. I did pick up some different kitten food today for him, I was reading labels in Morrissons and saw that the high-life kitten food is around 26% meat, as opposed to the Felix/Whiskas stuff. It's also a bit more like paste or pate, so I will feed this mixed with some water to keep his fluid intake up. He had some for lunch and loved it. He also shared a bit of my raspberry yoghurt on my finger....
Anyhow, thanks to all for suggestions and name ideas!

Sounds like he's enjoying himself!
Lirael favours the strawberry yogurt herself but it has to be full fat, she doesn't like the lite stuff!
-
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I want one!!! What a cuite , and Sam suits him right down to the ground!
-
So very adorable :)
-
Awwwww, he's a little stunner :Luv:
Glad the vet visit went well ;D
