Title: Ridiculous insurance renewal quote
Post by: Christine (Blip) on April 19, 2008, 16:45:25 PM
I got Blips insurance renewal this morning.  Marks & Spencer proposed to increase the monthly premium from £12.80 to £17.99  and reduce the cover by only paying 80% of any claim (after the normal excess of £75).

They have changed providers, I understand.  I was on the phone within fifteen minutes and have renewed Blips cover with Greenbee (part of the John Lewis Partnership) which is offering better cover for a lower premium.  Greenbee insure through AXA.

I was livid.   >:(  It looks to me like a cynical ploy to avoid insuring older puddies: Blip will be ten this summer.

Insurance companies are the devil's minions on earth. They have no interest whatsoever in providing a service to their customers, just a profit to their shareholders ... >:(

Am glad you have found a policy you're happy with Christine but just a note for any others thinking of switching insurers.  M&S changed their T&C's aswell as increasing the excess due to changing underwriters from Axa to Royal & Sun Alliance.  Greenbee and many others are underwritten by Axa but they could of course 'do an M&S' at any time by changing underwriters.

Most underwriters have their own pet insurance, I've just insured the boys directly with Axa.  It's the same cover as Greenbee for the same price, I just think that by going direct you will not risk the comapnies doing an M&S and changing underwriters.

Blimey, that's a bit of a hike!  I thought Jaffa's was bad enough with petplan as they also have a fixed excess but only pay a percentage of the claim too (for cats over 10).  But at least I don't pay £17.99!!  (It's about £11 at the moment but due for renewal in August).

Blimey - glad I never changed to M & S. I do keep wondering about changing to AXA though, I Can't do a quote on my home PC, will have to do it on Mon - it is only 48p a month cheaper for Zi though.

I got annoyed with M&S so I switched to AXA ... it ended up about £50 cheaper - for a switch. Also I did a quote 1 week for a new policy but didn't insure until the following week and it was £6 cheaper bringing it under £100 for a year  :naughty:

*touch wood* I'm very happy with AXA at the moment.

Just got my renewal through from M&S .......... Jet is at £155.08 and Cruz is £125.62.  Needless to say have looked elsewhere, AXA have quoted £83.45 for the first cat and £79.29 for the second.

Before I go ahead with this does anyone else have any other recomendations

 :thanks:

I did a quote for Alice with Axa and put her down as 9  (Although I'm sure she is older) and it was £9.50 a month.

When I got Pinball Wizard he came with 6 weeks Petplan insurance from his breeder and Petplan have just written to me to say that his insurance runs out in X weeks time and here's a quote for insuring him on their budget pedigree cat plan and the quote was £135 a year which 'generously covers up to £4000 of vet bills'!!  :-:

Needless to say I won't be taking that out as I pay about £100 a year per cat with Halifax for £6000 of cover for each of them and I know Halifax pay really quickly. I sent a claim form off to them last month for an £815 Root Canal bill for Boopy on the Monday and had the cheque arrive with me on the Friday.

Halifax are underwritten by AXA.

I got lost in the insurance jungle and ended up choosing Healthy Pets. I think I pay £4 something per month for Jameson.

I don't think thats per condition per year.  From reading the policy it would appear to be a pot of £5k per condition, once thats been used thats it.  After just claiming £8.5k in 18 months for Fabes I wouldn't take the risk.

i am just about to post about Sainsbury's but will add it on here - I just did a quote for MAbel, and they have changed the excess for over 9's, it is now coming up as an excess of £125, which i think is ridiculous, there are loads of things that come under that - Pebbles 2 x-rays were just under £100, so I have gone with AXA and changed Molly over before her 6 monthly checkup, in case it shows anything, I dont want to be tied to Sainsbury's with that excess.
