Took Lucy to the vet and don't think she knows whats wrong or even if its just awful coincidence that Lucy is having breathing problems just like Gypsy did, or whether its related. She's had Cephaguard antibiot injection and dexadreson (anti-inflam?) and some Ceporex antibioit tablets plus Millophylline tabs (bronchodilators) - basically the same stuff that Gypsy was given and a lot of good it did her :(
Her breathing's not really improved, in fact at one point she got up from the bed she was in and flopped on the floor, breathing really fast. She's not sneezing or coughing at all like Gypsy was, it doesnt seem the same to me, and she's not open mouth breathing, but just fast and laboured. I've just got to keep an eye on her and obviously ring if worried - I've done nothing but worry :(
-
Sending lots of good wishes and hope that Lucy picks up
-
I am so sorry for all what you are going through - sending big   to you and all the cats .
Really hope Lucy picks up tonight when the tablets kick in .
Lots of positive vibes from me and the gang in Lincoln.

-

-
Poor Lucy :( I've got everything crossed that she starts to get better soon, to you too Gillian.

xxx

-
Hoping that Lucy has started to respond to the meds!
-
Gillian, i hope Lucy is feeling better today. Thinking of you and Lucy.
-
Thanks again guys :thanks: I don't think theres been any significant change today, the only thing I can see is that she's resting easier if you know what I mean? instead of sitting hunched as she was last night and this morning, she now looks slightly more comfortable. However her breathing doesnt look any slower - and she's still not eating on her own (3 days now :( ) I'm hand feeding her a/d, small amount, every 4 hours or so, but I'm only getting a teaspoon or so each time. I don't feel I need to rush her down to the vets at the moment, but I'm still very worried about her.
-
Sending healing positive vibes to Lucy and yourself~~~~~~
Is she fine with her drinking Gillian? Hope her eating improves! ;)
-
Sending lots of positive vibes your way Gillian, c'mon Lucy, we're all rooting for you xx
-
I do hope she improves
-
Is she fine with her drinking Gillian? Hope her eating improves! ;)
She has been drinking a little, but vet gave me some Lectade, which I'm gonna try her with, in between the 4 hourly feeds, the 3 bronchodilator pills a day, and the 2 antibiotic pills a day!
Still no change really, I've just fed her some a/d, got a bit messy! her and me. Its trying to get a balance between getting medication and food into her, but at the same time not making her feel like she's being pulled about when she feels ill.
-
Have you got a little plastic syringe - my vet gave me a pack of 3 and Smartie will drink from it without any problem -its also helpful to use the syringe with a litle water at the same time as giving the tablets -it goes down easier.
Smartie is having antibiotics at the moment ( herpes virus flare up ) and on 2 a day + his fortekor and eye cream !- but he is really good at taking tablets -good job as he is always on some for one thing and another !!
Lectade is good - if mine have been ill and not been eating i mix that up and give with the syringe.
Hope Lucy starts picking up real soon.
-
Aww, fingers crossed for her.
-
Same here, hope all goes well with her. and a cuddle for Lucy x
-
:yayyy: :yayyy: :yayyy: :yayyy: I think we've turned a corner! She ate some chicken this morning - of her own accord from her plate, she didnt eat much but its a good start!
I noticed a subtle change when I woke up this morning (early!) and had a quick peek downstairs to see how she was (she hadnt been sleeping on my bed like she usually does). She actually sat up when she saw me and did her usual purr (sounds bit like a helicopter LOL!) which I hadnt heard in a while, and then licked my hand (another of her little foibles!). That just about made my day, and then of course she had something to eat. :yesss:
She's been out in the garden too - here she is, with Harry just checkin to make sure she's alright LOL!

Thanks all :thanks: - she continues to improve, and I forgot to say yesterday - as well as eating ok again, her breathing is much better too, pretty much back to normal I would say. She ate all the food on her plate yesterday evening and this morning she ate everything too. Now all I've gotta do is pay the £270 vet bill :omg: (that includes Gypsy's treatment and cremation) thank goodness my vet will let me pay bit by bit!
Hope she is still improving today. Out of curiousity Gillian, what colour is she?
She's a cream colourpoint Des :)
-
glad she is getting better - I should think they ought to give you time to pay Gillian, you must put a fair bit of custom their way!
-
Thanks all :thanks: - she continues to improve, and I forgot to say yesterday - as well as eating ok again, her breathing is much better too, pretty much back to normal I would say.

So glad that Lucy is on the mend. for you Gillian, what a worrying time you have had lately.

i wonder if it was brought on by the stress of her friend gypsy being missing from the gang.
-
Glad to hear Lucy is feeling better! :Luv:
-
Glad she is much better.
-
i wonder if it was brought on by the stress of her friend gypsy being missing from the gang.
I think that might have something to do with it Gill, as well as picking up on my stress about Gypsy perhaps?
She didnt eat much of her breakfast this morning - she was doing so well too.
-
Really hoping that her eating is getting back on track!.......
C'mon Lucy! :Luv: :Luv:
-
I hope she is eating better tomorrow
-
Me too, hope she picks up real quick for you, it is so stressful when they are not well. :(
-
Awww I really hope she picks back up - I know how devastating it is when they are poorly - I would have mver Heaven and Earth to save Oscar but it wasnt to be.
-
How is Lucy feeling today Gillian? I really hope that she has got her appetite back and is picking up, sending you both positive vibes to keep you both strong~~~~~~~~~
-
How is Lucy today Gillian.....hoping all is well!
-
Me too! how is she? xx
-
She's been back to the vets this evening as her appetite has dwindled again and she'd been sneezing, breathing still ok though. Vets given her antibitoic jab and see how she goes. Brought her home and she then proceeded to eat all her tea! She's been quite withdrawn this past week, don't know if thats the antibiotics or the illness or what.
-
Aww, fingers crossed this jab picks her up.
-
I hope that Lucy picks up over the weekend
-
I'm glad that Lucy's eating ok. Hope the antibiotics really kick in and you have an uneventful weekend (in a good way!). Have you tried a vitamin B jab as I find that helps with Swamp.
-
It does make you wonder what is actually wrong with her? Here's hoping she get's her food down and cheer's up abit!
>and to you too!
-
so sorry to hear about Lucy Gillian, you really are having a bad patch lately   for you and Lucy.
Don't know if this helps at all but we have had great results with cats suffering from Pneumonia (spelling? still early! ) with Convenia injections. We were bit dubious in the beginning but we had a persian (strangely enough) with it when they came in and the Convenia had them back on their feet within a few days.
I really hope that Lucy gets much better very soon and that your babies and you can have a rest from the heartbreak.

Thank you Sarah :thanks: I'm struggling at the moment, can hardly write this from crying still about Gypsy. :'(
Yes, Lucy had Convenia on Friday - I must admit I've been a bit dubious too, since it was given to my Suzie who had CRF, when it shouldnt have, but to be honest I was willing to try anything now with Lucy. She didnt have breakfast Sat morning, but did have tea, then she didnt want breakfast this morning, hoping she'll eat tea. She's sleeping a lot and I've heard her sneezing.
-
Hope she had some tea and it passes quickly Gillian. Have you tried putting her in a steamy bathroom, to see if that helps? I used an oil burner with eucalyptus when I had Blackie, as she had chronic snuffles from untreated cat flu, not sure if it helped much. She also had Bisolvon, which is a mucaylptic (sp??) powder to help things like that.
-
Sorry that Lucy is not any better and hope that the convenia helps .......thinking of you in this very difficult time
-
Aw poor Lucy.....hoping the new meds help pick her up.....and millions of  to you both! :care:
-
how is Lucy Gillian? any improvement? good sign that she had eaten a little of her own accord... fingers, toes and paws all crossed here for her.
Thinking of you lots.
-
She doesnt seem to want to eat in the mornings, but manages to eat at tea time, I hope thats enough just one meal a day? She's still sleeping a lot, but I don't think she's sneezing so much.
-
I am sure that will keep her ticking over until she feels like eating more ;D
-
1 meal is much better than nothing....C'mon Lucy, the sneezing has stopped but you need to be eating some brekkie! :Luv: :Luv:
>Gillian....Thinking of you!
-
at least she is eating, that's the main thing :)
we don't always feel like eating normally when we are not well either. Fingers crossed she is on the mend and big  for you.
xxx
-
Sending lots of love+ to you both, hoping Lucy makes a speedy recovery xx
-
It's good that she's eating a meal at least. It's such a really awful time for you Gillian so take care of yourself as well as Lucy  The convenia should help but I think it takes a few days to start working. Did your vet say it wasn't good for CRF then? I have to get Swamp injected about once a month/two months with it to control the infection from his cold and the vet's not mentioned any CRF issues.
We do what Desley suggests too (think it helps a little bit) - steamy shower and I put a little bucket of very hot water and Olbas oil as near to his nose as I can. He sits on the loo (lid closed!) in his bed and has come to quite enjoy the steam.
-

Thank you :thanks: Its just that on the Noah compendium site it states The safety of Convenia has not been assessed in animals suffering from severe renal dysfunction. I was concerned that it had been given to my Suzie with CRF only a few days before she had to be pts, but Lynn explained to me that as Suzie was already in end stage CRF, it wouldnt have made any difference one way or the other really.
Well the good news is that Lucy's appetite is almost back to normal and she's really improved in herself, she's coming up on my lap for a cuddle again (she'd been quite withdrawn) and is much more 'back in the fold' ;D
The bad news is that little Gwynnie started sneezing yesterday :scared: - and she is definitely not her usual lively self. I don't know how much more of this I can go through. :tired:
-
What a nightmare you are going through ! :(
Its bad enough with poor Gypsy, then Lucy being ill on top and now Gwynnie - i really feel for you .
I have been following your thread through and just kept hoping it was all going to start getting better soon - i really hope it does .
When i gave my Oscars pic a kiss at night i did tell him to tell Gypsy to send healing down to Lucy -will have a word tonight about doing the same for Gwynnie .
Big hugs again from us all in Lincoln  .
Hope the rest of the gang stay healthy now and yourself too .
-
I've only just caught up with your thread Gillian. I was so sorry to read about Gypsy and hope that Lucy is much better by now. Big hugs to you at this awful time.
-
Aww, fingers crossed for Gwynnie, and I hope it doesn't spread too much further for your sake. Glad Lucy is doing better though.
-
Sorry you are going through all this Gillian - I'm sure you have turned the corner now
-
oh Gillian sorry to hear Gwynnie is now sneezing - glad Lucy is on the mend though
-
I'm so sorry to hear you now have another problem, this time with Gwynnie. Hopefully her sneezing's just the funny weather or time of year. thanks for the convenia info - it certainly seems to work well and better than the pill form antibiotics, especially on respiratory problems. You sound so tired Gillian, so take some time out for yourself if you can. How about some chocolate and a nice cuppa (or something stronger!).
-
Chin up Gillian...what an awful time for you and Lucy and now Gwinnie! :scared: This can only make you stronger hun.....sending positive vibes to help you cope~~~~~~
-
I've just read all your messages and burst into tears - thank you for caring everyone :thanks: I'm going through severe financial difficulties (might lose the house) - as well as all this with the cats, so it seems like everything's falling apart.
Lucy is continuing to eat ok - so is Gwynnie, but she's still very quiet, not playing at all which is confusing Honey and Joe a bit I think, because the three of them often dash around and chase each other and then Joe gets the rugby tackle from Gwynnie! She IS eating though at the moment.
-
omg gillian I am so sorry to hear your problems are so severe
-
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time of things at the moment hun
-
I'm going through severe financial difficulties (might lose the house) - as well as all this with the cats, so it seems like everything's falling apart.
Sending you Good Luck vibes Gillian.....This really is an all round bad time for you and yours......Wishing this terrible phase passes quickly for you, In the mean time it is good that you can get things of your chest and there is so many different people on here with so many different life experiences I am sure we all can understand how you must be feeling! :grouphug:
-
Oh Gillian, what a nightmare. Gwynnie's sneezing could well be just the weather and she may be down because she's picking up on how you are suffering at present. I do so hope things turn around for you.
I see from my earlier post that the forbidden cho....ate word was replaced by healthyfood again (not that it isn't); old cliche but treat yourself to something nice at least once a day  it's the little things that help.
-
Poor you, what a horrible time you are having. I hope things improve very fast for you! :grouphug:
-
Sorry to hear about everything you have been through
-
Gillian I am so sorry to hear about Gwynnie sneezing and do you think that she should see the vet now?
Also all your problems coming all at once make life so difficult and you need to do something so you dont lose your house cos I am sure you are under so much stress right now and this could be affecting the cats.
its so hard to live from day to day and wonder how to pay for the ever increasing prices, so maybe now you really must bite the bullet and get a job to help you through the difficult patch. You can always pack it in when things are not so tough.
So many people on here have been through so much and am sure that advice will be given and support also. You must look after your health cos right now you sound so down and your cats need you to be fit and healthy so you can look after them
You know we are all here for you and will help in anyway we can
-
Sending you lots of love and  so sorry about Gwynnie hope she gets better real soon :Luv:
Really hopeing that you don't loose your house, I really no about not having money, but yours is so much worse with your house involved. We all deffo need to win the lotto or even the euro tonight. xxx
-
Thinking of you and hoping that Lucy is back to normal and Gwynnie is doing okay also!
-
  Gillian, I really hope the cats are feeling much better and that you are finding your level again.
Thinking of you at this really difficult time and truly hope that it passes quickly for you. Don't give up hope and I'm sure there are many of us here who will gladly lend an ear or eye for you to rant to if needed, myself included ;)
Take care of yourself too tho Gillian, or else you are no use to anyone including yourself!
-
Ditto
-
Not logged on for a couple of days, thank you for your messages :thanks:
I took Gwynnie to the vets on Saturday, as her sneezing had got worse and her appetite wasnt good. Anyway, she was also given a shot of Convenia, and I'm pleased to say that she started to improve yesterday evening, and is continuing to improve, appetite is back and although she is still sneezing and snuffling, her poor little nose doesnt sound quite so congested.
Lucy is also fine now - I feel like I've been through the wringer!! :tired:
-
So pleased to hear that Gwynnie is doing better and I hope you are getting some rest. Been thinking of you lots and really hope that things start to look up for you Gillian.
sending lots of love, hugs, purrs n head butts from all of us here to you and the furbabes. xx
-
Glad everything is ok with the cats. Now you need to spend some time on you!
-
Aww, hope this is the end of it with them for you Gillian.
-
So glad things are improving with your cats :Luv:
-
Now that is better news....so glad the furbs have improved, one weight off your shoulder and hopefully more good luck to follow!
-
About time you got a break Gillian
Glad they are on the mend :) :)
-
Very pleased that the cats are getting better and now for you ;D
