Title: HEART MURMUR
Post by: Ela on April 10, 2008, 19:07:02 PM
Has anyone got a cat with a grade 3  Heart Murmur if so what  medication is it on and how is it doing?  Someone has kindly decided that they do not want their 9 month old female after it went to the vets tonight to be kept in until tomorrow for a spay. Of course we will take it on and the vet is arranging for it to go to a cardiologist ASAP. Unfortunately the spay will have to wait until after the scan.

Oh, poor little thing. Sorry, I have no experience of this condition but I hope she's OK.

Was she a "free to a good home" advert cat? Bless her. I have to admit three out of my four cats weren't from rescue centres (nor was Parsley) but I've never considered them "free" either! (Unless food, litter, vet visits etc suddenly become complimentary!)

She was free to a good home but believe me the home is not good, over the years we have had so many problems with the family.

At least you/the vets have her now - she has a lot more of a chance. Sending the little one fusses.

Not sure who these vets are but I found this quite helpful when reading up about a category 2 heart murmur. They also suggest that murmurs in young cats can disappear - hope this is the case with this little one.

Ela, George's is equivalent to a 5 I think with his tetralogy of fallot.  He is propanol (spelling), a beta blocker 0.01ml every day and 1/4 20mg aspirin every third day.  Was diagnosed at three months, was neutered under guidance from cardiologise at 9 months and is still doing okay at 2 1/2 although we just see every day as a bonus.

He sometimes gets out of breath, sometime has vomiting peaks including a little bit of blood and I have been told that he can be "bled" if his red blood cell count gets too high.

Thank you, she was not spayed after all as the vet decided to wait until she has seen a  cardiologist. The earliest appointment we could get was in Sheffield next Monday.
