Have been to the PDSA again today to pick up another two little babes, approximately 10 days to two weeks old. Both have bad eyes but one of them has an eye that has virtually exploded . The PDSA said I didn't have to take them but how can I say no. It was because of my little baby tabby Georgie and her bad eye that Eight Lives Left was born. They are now in the intensive care unit (Kali and Cornelius are now in a kitten pen and have been for approximately a week) and I have antibiotics and eye medication for them. If they pull through the PDSA have said they will do the op to remove the eye for me FOC when he is old enough.
The PDSA also gave me a huge box of food which was really nice of them.
So lots of positive thoughts for my new babes would be very much appreciated. I will not take photos of them at the moment as I do not want to flash in their poorly eyes.
-
Sending lots of positive vibes for two little tabbies.
-
Good luck little ones. Sending positive vibes to you both.

-
Sending prayers to those poor poor babies :'(

I will be thinking of these 2 little ones. Hope they pull through. They are certainly in the best place now!
Is that the PDSA place in Southsea? I remember taking a cat that I found with a wound on her side to the vet there when I was about 12. The cat was just accross the road from the centre so I managed to pick it up and take it in to the vet!
-
Keeping everything crossed for these little babes.

This was the PDSA in Cowplain, the same one where Kali and Cornelius came from - I was able to take them in some photos so they could see how they had grown.
These two babes aren't doing so good, they are refusing to suckle at the moment and it is amazing how much of a struggle a little bundle that fits in the palm of your hand can put up when it chooses. Both their eyes are very infected but the little boy's damaged eye is a real mess, like a little golf ball on the side of his face. They've had their medication this morning but even getting 1/2ml of antibiotics into them is difficult. Hopefully, as they get used to the smell of me they will get more interested in food. I'm just blessed to have the intensive care unit to keep them in, only Forest decided to chew through the temperature sensor alarm lead!!!!. Fortunately, it comes with another one which is not quite as good but will do the job for now and I have been on to Burtons asking how much and how quickly they can get me another one. They are already making enquiries for me, so they have acted quickly - I did advise them I had two little kittens in need of constant monitoring and that seems to have spurred them on.
Will keep you up-dated on these little angels.
-
Right you two bundles of Tabbyness *sleeve rolled up* start eating or else I will come and munch you tummies, (mind you I might just do that anyway :) )
Come on little ones we are all routing for you here xxx :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
-
if anyone can save these 2 its you Lesley xx
Come on ickle ones - Aunty Lesley needs you to start drinking, You have so much to live for xxxxxx
-
Come on babes. you can do it :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
The PDSA said I didn't have to take them but how can I say no.
You can't. We have over the years took loads in like this, some we have managed to save the eyes others have sadly needed perhaps one removed. In fact I still have now a 16 year old cat that came in as a kitten and her eye had exploded.
Fingers crossed for the little ones.

That gives me some hope for them then Ela. They did feed a little better last time, and I can actually see his other eye opening a little. The little girl (I think, not so sure on second inspection) is quite vocal when left in the ICU on her own when her brother is being fed so she definitely seems to have some spirit. :Luv:
-
I hope these little two survive :scared:
Sending love & healing thoughts.

I hope they can pull through, what a place to be left :(
Naughty forest for nibbling things he shouldnt :no no:

Bless them and bless you for taking them in. Fingers crossed they will improve by the day
-
I so hope there is good news about these two fur babies soon.
-
Got everything crossed for these two babies, they've got the best chance possible now they're with you Lesley.
-
Well, they finally decided to suckle, only tookd 3/4 ml but that is the best they have done. :cheer: :cheer:. Eyes still very gungy but more lively this evening so I have a little more hope for them than I did this morning.
Still gonna be long nights for the next few weeks if they survive but it will be worth it.
:thanks: for all your kind thoughts, I am sure they are feeling the purrs vibes. :)
-
What is wrong with people? How can anyone be so irresponsible that they just dump animals anywhere. Suppose when looking at the world in general...no surprise. Horrible. And have ssen the exploded eye thing on Animal Planet programmes before. Horrendous. Hope they survive just to prove that they can do it!
-
Come on kittens you can do it
All kittens in the intensive care unit will be willed on by all who took part in the auction and hope that they become great big cats

Hope the kitties get better, love and hugs to you all xxxx

Fingers, toes and paws crossed for these little ones.
-
Eaten well again this morning and took their medication well. The little boy even gave his first little meow. Now this may not work, but hopefully here are a couple of piccies of them.

The middle one shows the little boy with the exploded eye.
All other eyes were cleaned quite well this morning but I am very nervous of touching this bad one - I feel I should be cleaning it better than I am but I also do not want to rupture it or anything (always disliked dealing with eyes but always seem to get cats with bad ones ). Any advice on the best course of action would be appreciated. We are basically syringing warm water over this eye just to sort of irrigate it and hubby says to put a little salt in the water?
-
YAY I finally did good photos
-
Hi hun, no salt in the water, it may sting like hell, any eyes that are ulcerated just cool boiled water ;) I would just do what you're doing and keep an eye on things. Has the vet given you any cream to keep any infection down? I really hate the eyes, and like you, seem to get ones with eye problems
-
That's what I thought about the salt, luckily I hadn't let him do it.
I've got fucithalmic for the eyes and antibiotics as well, which they have been really good with.
-
God bless them they are so lovely and if there is anything they need or anything I can do please let me know. You are so good to look after them and they will be lavished with love and care. What goes around comes around I hope so if someone dumped them their punishment will arrive in due course.
-
Ok so I've encountered many gunky eyes and other  eye things but exploding eyes are (thankfully) a new one on me.
Can someone with a strong stomach please let me know how this occurs and what the warning signs are? Forewarned is forearmed after all.
More vibes heading to these two too!
-
Unfortunately, can't really help with warning signs because the two I have had both arrived with bad eyes. I think if you have really young kittens, you have to be wary if they do not open them after 7 - 10 days, this could be a sign of infection and if their eyes are then opened with the aid of a Vet the infection can build up under the eyelid. Not an expect, but I think that can be the case.
-
So presumably it's exclusive to kittens then? I'm all about the oldies at the moment but when I remortgage I'm hoping to get a conservatory and do a spot of kitten/feral fostering. I need to learn as much as I can before that though, I'd hate it if something happened I couldn't deal with.
-
Right, they have names. Looking at my list of sponsored names, the first male name on the list is .........................................................TIGGY, from Helen and the first female sounding name, after Kali, which has already been used is .............................................Persia, from Papillon - I hope you don't mind your Bridge baby's name being used on a moggie?
So, will give further updates on Tiggy and Persia later.

I suspect if you had an older cat that had an eye infection, if left untreated, as on a stray, the same sort of thing could happen.
-
Lovely names :Luv: *waves* Helllooooo Tiggy and Persia!
-
:welcome: to Purrs Tiggy & Persia ;D Her memory lives on :) She was a girl though Lesley but I'm sure she'd forgive you ;)

My fault - I had a Boxer called Tigger, Tiggy for short, so I always think of boys, SORRY.
-
Awww....these two hit a bit of a nerve. Parsley was found in a bag by my partners sister when she was ridiculously small too. She had a huge gapping mess on one of her eyes and the vets said she wouldn't make it - my partners sister thought otherwise and nursed her to health.
Fuss to little Tiggy and Persia.
-
What gorgeous little babes :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: - My heart aches for the little lad with the terrible poorly eye, I hope with all my heart it is not to painful for him. Poor little man :(.
Thank heaven they are now safe in your loving hands  xxx
-
Big hugs to Tiggy and Persia, I hope they both have a positive future after a terrible beginning :(
.....and a big hug to you Lesley for all the hard work you're putting into looking after them.
-
Tiggy and Persia , great names and hope they do really well and the eye can be sorted out
-
The latest update on Tiggy and Persia. Persia seems to be doing extremely well, she has put on weight and already looks bigger than Tiggy. When I bathed her eyes this morning she did manage to open them and she must have some vision I think because she hissed at me , that's gratitude for you. Saying that, when you give her a little cuddle after feeding she gives the little clicky purr that only really young kittens do :Luv2:.
Tiggy is eating well but not as much as Persia. His bad eye is still very swollen and although I am bathing it by running water over it from a syringe I do not actually want to touch it with anything because I am not sure what is eye, what is dried blood, what is dry pus . I think it may get to the stage where a large lump will break off and then I will be able to see what we are left with.. He can just open his other eye but at the moment it does not look normal underneath but that may just be due to the infection still there. I feel so guilty when I bathe him, he is so small and he seems to get soaked poor love. I give him a good dry afterwards and a cuddle and he seems to love going back in the incubator and warmth.
Will try to get some more photos later today, Persia has gorgeous markings, very bengly like. :Luv2:
-
AWWW God love them babies - I pray his eye is not too painful - and that underneath the gunk it will be a proper eye and he can keep it.
give them some snuggles from me here
-
Poor little souls, how could anyone do that :(
-
I hope these little babes continue to do well :Luv:
-
Tiggy seems to be getting stronger day by day and this morning was very hungry and was biting (or in his case gummying) my finger for his milk. Eye still not good but I would say it is not getting worse. All their eyes are still infected and producing pus, despite being bathed and irrigated at each feed, but they do not seem to be in pain and are much more active when they first arrived.
Their organs all seem to be working fine as well now, as Tiggy produced the poo of his life last night
-
Go Tiggy, go :wow:
-
Hope these little babes are still doing well and I'm sure you'll see a big difference in Persia's eye in a few days  I remember with little Keiko, her eye was awful and I had to take her in daily for Sean to inject her, sadly though, even after after the eye was removed, the infection was too much for her body to cope with :'( Sending positive thoughts that these little darlings grow into strong healthy adults
-
AWW bless that pooping Tiggy xxx.
-
AWW bless that pooping Tiggy xxx.
I know, it's amazing how you can be so pleased that something is sh***ing all over you.
-
Hurrah for pooping Tiggy! :)
Keep up the good work, Persia.
-
they are lovely, the cat next door is called Tiggy ;D
-
Tiggy and Persia update.
Persia is coming on leaps and bounds, growing really well, now weighs a whopping 220g. :Luv: She is definitely eating more than Tiggy and it shows. Tiggy is a little diddy puss at just 160g but really I am pleased he is eating as well as he is. Persia's eyes are starting to be less gungy and she is able to keep them open a bit more and Tiggy's bad eye definitely is not as swollen as it was and the infection seems to be drying up leaving a dry lump over the eye. I don't want to interfere with it too much, just hoping it will come away by itself really - but what will be behind it.
Will try to get some piccies of them this afternoon and post up later.
-
Lesley, cant wait to see more pictures of Tiggy and Persia ;D Of course i dont mind using the name for the little one , Persia was my blue/cream Persian cat and she had lovely nature i hope this little ones lives a very long and happy life  Go on Tiggy and Persia, make us proud ;)
-
Tragic news I am afraid. Little Tiggy's other eye swelled up terribly over Sunday night, Monday morning and the decision was made yesterday to let him go to the Bridge. :RIP:.
It's a decision I probably could not have made, had it been up to me, but the Vet at the PDSA where they both came from was very realistic. She stated that the infection was not in the eye socket but appeared to be in the actual eye balls and that the antibiotics were having no effect against it. It was nothing like anything she had seen before and did seek the second opinion of one of the other vets at the Practice. It was obvious little Tiggy would have no sight and, although he did not appear to be in pain at the moment, he would have to live with the infection for at least another 12 weeks to be of a size and age to cope with the operation to remove not one, but both his eyes, and with the infection coming on so quick in the second eye, it was most probable that pain and suffering would start shortly.
Little Persia still has gungy eyes and we have changed her antibiotics to try and combat this better. It is obvious she misses her brother so she is getting lots of extra cuddles and fuss at the moment. She is very lively and was always growing much quicker than him so hopefully she will be strong enough to combat the infection and hers does not seem to be in the eye balls as was Tiggys.
I hate giving up on any of them, but in this case I know deep down it was the right thing to do. To let him carry on would have been more for me than for him - his eyes were huge and the Vet managed to pull off the scab from the original eye and underneath was just a bulging ulcerated mass.
Have fun at the Bridge little Tiggy, know that your mummy loved you and did what she thought was best for you. Find all of our other little furbabes and wait for me. :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Poor Little Tiggy
RIP little one xx
-
RIP Tiggy, I think that was definitely what was best Lesley, and at least he knew love and care before he went to the bridge.
-
Awww, I'm sorry Lesley
It defo sounds like you did the best thing for this little one though, he will be safely playing on the Bridge by now with no nasty infections to hurt him.
RIP Tiggy xxxx
-
terribly sad news :'( :'( :'( :'(
at least he has warm and comfort in his last few days.
Play hard on the bridge little man - you were loved by many, my Beau & Zak will take care of you. Night Night little one xxxxxxxxx
these post make me so sad and make me realise that there are babes out there with nothing and they have to fend for themselves, and go with out food for days. I just wish mine realised how lucky and spoilt they are.
-
Oh how sad...poor, poor little baby.
I was really hoping these two had turned the corner, bless them. Let's pray that Persia doesn't become any weaker.
R.I.P. Tiggy, sweetheart and watch over your sister. You're with all the other angels now and will never know pain again...just love.
So sorry Lesley. (I don't know how you and everyone else in rescue can keep subjecting yourselves to this constant heartache but I'm very grateful that you do)
Roz
-
Aww no. :( Tiggy, look out for Parsley, she'll look after you. :RIP: little one.
Keep fighting Persia.
-
Do you know what causes these eye infections in very young kittens, Lesley? It is so sad. I can't believe that some evil bast**d could have dumped those dear little babes next to a bin to die... I wonder if there were any more that weren't found.
It's too heartbreaking for words. :( You must be gutted.
-
I know that when we found Bluto our little feral who we handreared he had bad eyes due to cat flu, fortunately he made a full recovery apart from a bit of discharge if it was cold outside
-
Sorry Lesley
Poor baby Tiggy - why are creatures born to suffer like this? :'(
-
Oh Lesley how sad
RIP Tiggy .... far too young to have gone to the bridge. You will find lots of new friends there who will show you round and look after you little man.
-
So very sorry Lesley
Rip Tiggy, play hard at the bridge sweet one xxx
-
So sorry Lesley  RIP Tiggy, safe and sound at the Bridge until your Mum is ready to collect you xx

Dee x
-
So sorry for you and sorry for little Tiggy. Don't worry Persia we'll keep you safe and sound
-
Oh Lesley, I'm sorry. I had hoped that things would be better for you. Lets hope he's met up with Abigail and Bethany.
Kittens can be so fragile and the people who dump them should rot in hell.
-
I am so sorry Lesley and you and the vet tried everything you could for Tiggy   I hope that Persia will continue to grow and can get over the loss of her sweet little brother, come On Persia you can do it
RIp Tiggy, play hard on the bridge, you will never be forgotten.
-
Poor little Tiggy.
RIP sweet Tiggy.

I think often it is started by cat flu and the kittens are so weak that it takes a good hold and the eyes are very susceptible before they open. But Tiggy was slightly different in that the Vet thinks it was the eyeballs that were affected and she thinks it was something he was born with, probably the reason he and his sister were dumped - not worth the effort of raising them for £40 the b:censored:d who dumped them would probably have got when selling them.
On a brighter note, Persia is doing well, her eyes are open 80% of the time and although the third eyelid still covers alot of the open area, they are not so infected and she is bright and bubbly in herself. At first, she just wandered round the incubator crying for her brother which was heartbreaking to watch, but she seems to have settled a bit more and she has the snugglekittie with the heartbeat and some rattly toys to keep her amused.
I have found she is developing teeth now, not quite such a gummy grab when she gets your finger anymore. :Luv2:
Have just ordered the smaller size intensive care unit to make it easier to transport to work. The big purrs one is fantastic and when there is more than one kitten it is perfect but Persia looks a little lost in it and it is very heavy to carry down the stairs and into the car each day. Hopefully the new one will arrive shortly and I can still use all the accessories with the new one. Will also mean I can now take in more than one litter at a time without cross infection. :Luv2:
Thanks for all your kind thoughts, losing Tiggy was not only heartbreaking, but sometimes makes you despondent about what you are doing, but you lot and Persia and Cornelius and Kali make it all worthwhile and shows that Tiggy did not die in vain; everytime I look at Persia I will see him in her eyes. :Luv2:
-
poor Tiggy, god bless her :'(

Good night little Tiggs X

Poor little Tiggy :(
