Title: Wet nose??
Post by: Harna on April 06, 2008, 19:47:28 PM
No, not the snotty kind  :evillaugh:

Since the first time I saw Wilf at the RSPCA, I noticed he had a little wet mark on the bridge of his nose. And yes, before you ask, Persian cats DO have enough of a nose to constitute a 'bridge'.  :Luv:

Anyway, this wet mark is not always there. It's also not in any way related to 'dirty' eyes (of which he doesn't particularly suffer overly). He has a long tongue but don't think he could manage making one small spot on his nose so wet. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not . . . .

. . . . so my question is; does anyone know what it is and why?!  Could it be something to do with scenting? He's not injured and it doesn't appear to bother him - I'm just curious!

Here are a couple of pictures, taken this afternoon. He's on the desk now and the mark is NOT there now but as you can see from the pics, it was earlier!

Oh, and yes, I have thought about the fact that it might be happening just after he's eaten/drunk but there doesn't appear to be any correlation with this . . . . . .

I bet Wilf is currently saying: cheers mum for exposing my nasal passage to the world

I don't know what it could be so can't be helpful, but just have to say he's scrummy  :Luv2:

Hmm very strange....... Sol always had a brown spot in the same place.  He actually has a very very small dent where stuff collects.

I would imagine its Wilf licking his nose  ;)

You know, maybe he IS getting his nose in somewhere I don't know about. He and Alfie are really rather into everything (they sit on the loo seat behind my daughter if they can!  )

I know that he likes to sit in the bath and stare at the taps - I thought he might like to drink running water but when I let the tap dribble, he just stared more intently, like it was hypnotising him and made no attempt to drink it. He is also fascinated with anyone having a bath - will try to jump in with you or will perch on the edge of the handbasin just staring at the water. . . . . I'm sure he's not right in the head

Oh, and Wilf would like to thank you for your kind comments on his nose.

To (almost) complete the set, here you will see:

whiskers

and:
ear floof

(it was snowing, we were thawing out with the heating on, I was playing with the camera . . . .)

I think you might find this is due to him probably licking his nose esp if food/water is more susceptable to getting up his nostrils, at other times it may be he has more nasal secretions and licks again to clear his nose. (you can see his does have nasal gunk as heres a tiny bit at the opening of his right nostril or left on the piccy)
either way i see absolutely no reason for worry as everything looks healthy from those pics.

 :shy: does it show, then?!!!

Anyway, I've spent the last 24 hours or so keeping a keen eye on Wilfred. I have noted the following:

Yes, he *does* lick his nose.
Yes, he does stick his entire face into his tea

So that's probably what is causing this mark!

(I've also noticed that staring at taps and watching the melting snow drip down the french doors takes up quite a large proportion of his day . .  . . .)

I've checked his nose (perfect  :Luv2:) and changed his bowl to a large saucer and we'll see how it all goes!

Thanks you lot!
