So this morning one of my collegues came into the office just before 8 am looking for a box to say there was a cat they had just pulled out of a whelelie bin that they thought someone had tried to drown. I went rushing outside and the cat was wrapped in a blanket on the ground surrounded by people on the other side of a fence.
Well to cut a long story short, whilst somone called the SSPCA ( RSPCC in Scotland) I picked the cat up in the blanket to try and give her/him some heat. I took him into the office and along with a collegue we tried to dry him off as much as possibile and warm him up with scarfs warmed on the radiator. He was totally frozen and whimpering but eventually had started to move his legs - he was clealry in shock!!
Anyway we called the SSPCA and waited over an hour for them - we called three times to chase them and they assured us they were on the way as by then we were considering taking the cat to the vets ourselves (which I wanted to do in the first place!). Anyway clearly I watch too much Animal Cops Houston, Pheonix and all the rest of it - because a lady eventually turned up with a wire cage wrapped the shivering cat in a small scrap of a towel (we had him in a fleece blanket) and said she would take him to the vets about ten mins up the road. I had wrongly assumed they would give some form of medical treatment when they got here- at very least have had a heat pad - how naive!!
I then asked if we could have just taken the cat to the vets ourselves then if that was all that was happening - she said yes its up to you - we are happy to come out and drive them there or you can take them yourselves we are happy either way!! Well given we are a council office with numerosu vehicles - WHY DIDN'T THEY SAY THAT WHEN WE CALLED!!
I was not the one that made the call granted but I am so upset we waited an hour with a distressed cat for a woman with a wire cage to drive him ten mins up the road . I know they do a great job but they took forever to get here and were coming from onlyu ten mins away as that was where the girl is based so why so long - and why such poor care on arrival!! I think I expected too much and really wish we had known we could take him ourselves!!
I really hope this little one makes it - it has been a very upsetting morning - on a lighter note I sticnk of cow dung because the poor mite was in putrid water and transferred all that to me when I was cuddling him to warm him!!!
He was a well fed wee man so somone will be looking for him today - we think kids may have put him in the wheelie bin - how can people be so cruel!!!!
-
That is awful. Poor little cat. I feel for you in that it took help so long to turn up and you could, as you have said, got him there yourself. Fingers crossed he will pull through this. I expect you will keep in touch with the vet so that you can update us?
-
Poor little thing. I really can't understand how people can do things like this. Well done for helping him and I hope you'll be able to get an update from the vet on how he's doing and whether his owner finds him.
-
Just can't think about this poor little thing but wanted to say thanks for sharing the story. We will all know better than to await arrival of RSPCA in similar circumstances in future if we are able to bring an animal to local vet ourselves. Very upsetting.
-
We are going to call the vets later to see how he is and also put posters up to report we found him - someone will be looking for him as he seemed well looked after.
It is only now it has hit me, people can be so cruel and he was so distressed!! >:(
-
It has been an awful shock for you. It is distressing for everyone involved not least the poor cat.
-
Poor little mite ... fingers crossed this little one makes it :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
I hope this wee babe makes it :wish:
-
I am devastated - the wee fella didn't make it!! :tired: :tired:
We called the vets a couple of hours ago and he was losing blood through his nose and genitals (it was a boy) and they had him on a drip and were closely monitoring him as they thought the blood was due to water in his lungs.
However the SSPCA just called to say he hadn't made it and we checked with the vets and he took a turn for the worst and passed away an hour ago! I just feel shattered and you worry whether that hour we waited might have made all the difference - I am sure it wouldn't have but I wish we had just taken him to the vets ourself! He was such a handsome little mite and it is heatbreaking!
Play hard on the bridge little fella - :candle:
-
So sorry this little one didn't make it.
At very least it's free of pain now and in a nicer place.
-
I'm so sorry, RIP little one.
You did all you could, and I'm sure this little babe is very grateful to all of you who helped him
-
I'm so sorry he didn't make it, but you did all you could to help him and that got to be better than certain death alone in a bin.
RIP little one.
-
Thats very sad (brought tears to my eyes), some people are so so cruel,
The only comfort is he is now in a better place
-
Oh, this is sooo sad. :( :'( :( Poor, poor boy!! :(
But don't beat up on yourself, this was the best you could and then some. And you provided him the opportunity where he could depart this world under warm care, and be cuddled lovingly once again, instead of some unspeakable condition which horrifies me just to think about it.
He is free of suffering and well again now over the bridge, play hearty little sweetie.
-
How sad that he didn't make it after such a horrible ordeal :'(
You did all you could for him and shouldn't feel bad about what happened, the person (and I use that term very loosely) who put him in the bin is the one who should feel bad. >:(
Big  to you
Dee x

Poor little thing :'( He'll be safe and sound at the Bridge by now...
-
This is so sad :'(
Sending you a big hug
-
OMG - I am beside myself with anger and sadness - well done for making the little boy's last hours more comfortable.
I just can't describe what I want to do to the perpetrators .... >:( >:( >:(
Play hard at the Bridge, little one.
-
That is so sad and the evil people who did it should have atste of their own medicine.
Thank you for trying and giving him a chance
RIP little Fella
-
Oh I am so very very sorry. It has made me cry to think what happened to the poor little mite. RIP sweet cat you deserved better. At least someone cared what happened to you and did their best to save you.
-
Im gutted for you obviously its a waste, damn shame! :(
now dont take this the wrong way but is it not possible the cat jumped into bin??
-
Where did the water come from then?
-
This made me really sad. I am so sad that people would do this to animals. Was he microchipped? Did anyone claim him?
R.I.P little fella, sleep tight and have fun chasing the butterflies at Rainbow Bridge.
-
How full was the bin?? If it was filled to the brim then probably some evil fook! I was simply saying that as the wind blew our bin open and when i came to move it it had about a foot of water in it from the rain(and possibly the leaking gutter), which I think is enough to get a cat in trouble.
-
This is irrelevant to the thread and its pretty clear from the original post that the cat did not jump in!
-
So sad. It sounds like the SSPCA are a waste of space though >:( - You tried your best and that was all you could do
-
This is irrelevant to the thread and its pretty clear from the original post that the cat did not jump in!
Hang on lets not be like that, the original post said 'someone thought'!! Glad your not working in the legal system!
-
Its kinda relevant, unless some :censored: was witnessed doing it. Freak accidents do happen :(
I hope the poo smell has gone now
-
The wheelie bin wasnt outside a front door but was in amogst the shrubs outside our office - who knows how long it had been there as it's probably not the kind of thing you would notice or it could have put been put there last night. The police based in our office thought it was malicious but who knows - I doubt the wind blew the top open due to their design and the shelter from the shrubbery but also I think the water was mostly rain water judging ny the smell of it - although it was full to the top.
The police took statements and thought it was malicious. It's a tough neighbourhood and to be honest with all the injuries that are did to cats in the area with bangers and fireworks from time to time - and other animals - then maybe they did jump to conclusions but maybe they know better than me! The workmen who found him were not around any more so we don't know if the lid was open or closed - it was his cries they heard as they were parked in front of the shrubs and thought it was a child.
We will never know I guess but to be honest that wasn't the reason why I started the thread - I was more concerned with the wee cat and the fact we waited so long for the SSPC when we could have drove him ourselves - something that has been playing on my mind since he lost his fight.
-
like i said Im gutted he didnt make it!!
My family all work in the legal profession and you would not believe how many times things appear clear cut but yet they are anything but!! It does show peoples opinions of the times in which we live and thats also a shame!
-
RIP little one bless you, at least he is safe on the Bridge Now. i would like to get my hands on whoever done this evil thing to the poor little mite it makes me so mad when i hear things like this I :censored: :censored: know what I would do to the B-r-s-t-d-s >:( >:( >:(
-
This just makes me feel sick, as others have said how evil >:(. You wonder what the world is coming to, I read in the Metro today about a pet dog who was in his own backgarden when some thugs called him through a hole in the fence just in time for his owner to witness him having his throat cut >:( >:(. He survived but ended up with 54 stitches and is now afraid to go out.
So awful for you to have to deal with something like this caledonia sending you lots of
-
:( :( :( Poor Poor baby ... so very sorry this little soul didn't make it.
Thank you Caledonia for everything you did for him, I can't imagine how you must be feeling at the moment
RIP little boy ... you will find lots of friends at the bridge. Play hard.
-
Things like this are sickening beyong belief.
Thank God at least Caledonia, you cared enough to try and help in his last moments. Poor little baby.
-
I've been dreading looking at the updates on this thread and sadly I was right not to :'( :'( I'm gutted that this little one didn't make it and I hope they catch the scum that did it >:( >:( >:( Well done for helping him and don't beat yourself up for not taking him to the vet yourself, sometimes it's hard to know what to do these situations but you did your best hun
RIP little fella, play hard on the bridge, again, humans have a lot to answer for >:( >:(
