Augusta was a very elderly lady who came into the care of Gateshead CP last August when two of our fosterers collected her from a garden. Poor Augusta was half dead, very, very thin and in an awful state when she came in to us and we were convinced the vet would find something wrong with her when he checked her over. Suprisingly all tests proved negative and it seemed that she was just very old and neglected. The vet didn't see any reason to give up on her yet so she stayed with her fosterers and although we knew she was unlikely to find a new home we wanted to give her a chance to lead a comfortable life for as long as she had left. Augusta was at the vets a few times over the months and each time her foster mum and dad thought her time had come but the vets worked their magic and Augusta kept going. Sadly last weekend she started to go downhill and this time when she went to the vet it was decided it was time to let her go. She went very peacefully and she had seven months of love and care, good food and fusses that she wouldn't otherwise have had so we know we did our best for her. RIP Augusta, enjoy yourself on the bridge darling, you'll be young and full of energy again there.
