Title: What cat tree do you have?
Post by: Bryony84 on March 27, 2008, 11:57:24 AM
I want to buy my cats a nice cat tree for them to play on when I'm at work. I don't want something really brightly coloured and garish and I'm not keen on paw print/leopard print patterns etc! Other than that I'm open to most things, just so long as they will enjoy it.

What do you have and would you recommend it? Pics if possible!

The green one is one that Hubby brought, I wouldn't have chosen something in that colour  and we have that in the back bedroom

The one Jess is on was a Felix one but it broke this week

We also have one that has a box at the bottom the cats can go in and 2 scratch posts on top but they don't really use it,

Lukey and Riley have one from this site - the De Luxe Bastion.  It was a bit more expensive than other similar height ones from elsewhere but it's handmade, the posts are solid wood instead of cardboard tubes so it will last much longer and as an added bonus it's not covered in gaudy pawprints  :evillaugh:

http://www.catscratcher.com/scratchers.html

Here it is in action - it's used on a daily basis for sleeping, resting, play fighting, scratching etc etc

Not so active sleeping at the top...

The middle platform

The swing ball...

Now they've grown it's not quite big enough for them both to sleep (comfortably) on the top platform but that doesn't stop them trying!

The tunnel containing a full grown Riley (he is a very big boy too!)

Kalven do some great ones - they're really sturdy with wood poles not cardboard and have a range of colours, http://www.kalven.co.uk/ - here's one of mine from Kalven, admittedly its seen better days, but its about 10 yrs old now! Its quite a big one (and heavy!), so when I put it all together I fixed castors on the bottom, so can move it around easily. They do more neutral colours - I just picked this one up at a cat show (you can usually get them at good prices at the shows) and the colours were limited there. These do nice designs too and neutral colours etc: http://www.catscratcher.com/scratchers.html

We've had the Korat tree for a while and would definitely recommend it - seems to be lasting well (with five cats) and a good size and price (they loved the free play tunnel too).   Can't seem to copy the picture but link is http://www.ukparrotcages.co.uk/cat_trees.html.

Riley and Digby have this one from zooplus.  http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/scratching_posts/large/45600

It's a bit dearer than others but it is more in keeping with my apartment and doesn't have loads of pawprints. They do like it. They do sometimes fight in it because Digby likes to get in the enclosed basket when Riley is already there. He doesn't seem to get that Riley wants some alone time!

They also have one from here:  http://www.catplay-stations.com/new_page_3.htm

This ladder is meant for the outside but I have it in the second bedroom. When I put it up in the living room they were all over it. But I'm not sure how much they use it when I'm out. They never use it much if I'm around, although I do hear them jumping off it in the middle of the night. This one is good because it comes more or less assembled.

Your kittys are all very spoilt, some lovely trees there. I particularly like the catscratcher.com ones. I'm going to decide where I want it to go and do some measuring tonight so keep the ideas coming!

Well not long after Oliver's arrival, Cristiano ambitiously declared "I will build one, no problem!!" at my mention of cat tree.  We got the pieces of lumbers for the base material and the project has been on hold since then.  Okay he is always swamped with work and then our new flat (we moved in last summer after complete rennovation) still need a lot of finishing touch too, so he just never get around to it, and I can't take charge as I am total pants at DIY I would end up making an askew tree which will tip over when he hops on, or nail my finger on the tree or something... I am beginning to wonder if the cat tree will be ever up in our life time... :(

Albany do do all different shapes and sizes. The one I really wanted was this one but it would've taken up lots of room. Not a problem for me but oh is picky picky

My OH is picky about space as well, although he insists on having a sofa and an armchair despite the fact that we don't have people over that often and the armchair is rarely used!

There are some pretty cool designs here: http://www.rosewoodpet.com/products/range_41.asp?id=41&sgid=353&action=previous&page=1#prodlist

I like the Singapore and the Rome, and the New York's a bit different! You can't buy off this site, but I know somewhere you can get them!  ;)

I reckon I'll probably get one of the zooplus ones, partly because I've ordered from them before and delivery was great. Plus with the link on here I will be donating too!
