Some of you may remember a while back i posted abit about our local council and what they did with RTA animals.. The answer being nothing.. !!All animals were taken to the local refuse, not scanned etc..
I made a few calls and talked to the council and pleaded a case of chipping and a log to be kept that we would help with to notify local vets.

WELL TODAY SOME GOOD NEWS.. I had a call from the council and at a recent meeting they had agreed that their policy wasnt that good and they have now brought 9 chip readers and have asked our branch to be involved in writing a operational policy into the council contract with regard to RTAs ....

This is fab news.. all it took was loads of persistance and a willingness for them to work with us.. I bet there was a few animal lovers at that meeting. I cannot  believe they brought 9, apparently the local dog warden is getting one as well...

Me and the co ordinator will be meeting them in a few weeks time to sort out the logistics but by the beginning of April we should have a council policy whereby all cats (and dogs) are scanned, logged (chip or not that is)  by us to notifiy local vets and of course worried members of the public..

Very happy with that result.
Realise its not a happy subject but at least people will know.

Seriously well done!! Bet you are over the moon - maybe puddy, le chat noir and I can take a similar approach to our local council and we can start a wave of responsible council approaches from Kent that takes over the country!! ;D

You must have been very persistant as I know what Canterbury Council are like to deal with. I was only writing a letter to them today. As long as they can make it clear to Serco that it is part of their remit - whenever I have phoned the council about rubbish, they say you have to take it up with the contractors.

That's fantastic - I sometimes wish that I would be told they had my Smudge as he's been missing now for 6 months and I ate not knowing.  It hurts more than knowing he is dead.  Well done.

That is really excellent news Sharon.  Well done for getting the council on side.  Yes, BC I think that having a go at Medway council is a really good idea.  I know one of our councillors, so will sound him out, next time we meet.

Well done!!!!!

I'd be interested in the steps that you took to do that, although we don't really have the volunteer numbers at the time to take it on at the moment, but it would be good for future to know!

Was it a case of one person being persisitant, or many people, did you get members of the public involved as well?
