Went to new rescue today and I can now confirm I'm volunteering for....wait for it....
South Normanton Cat Sanctuary!
*applause*
Anyway I didn't want to reveal its identity as I'd heard bad reports but it was wonderful. It is a completely independent shelter with around 40 hard-to-home cats. It's actually quite similar to Woodland Nook (where I was before) only with pens and 3 times the number of cats!
There are no firm CP-style rules but the standard of cleanliness and care is very high and the cats are all extremely happy. I ment several polydactyls including one with 28 toes and a really special cat with cerebal pulsy. There is also a very content cat with two, yes two legs!
I'm posting this now although I got home at 1 because I've only just thawed out. The wind and cold went right through me. I've spent the afternoon dozing and snuggling Josh for warmth.
I stink of bleach, I've only just got warm and my coat is covered in drool from a very happy ex-feral but I've not been this happy in ages!

sounds like a job well done to me :wow:

:1st place: South Normanton Cat Sanctuary on your latest recruit! Glad it went well Amy :)
-
oooh kitty drool and bleach ... lovely.
Sounds like you've had a great time.

Sounds wonderful :)
Well done and hope you have thawed out now

Amy
I am delighted that you have discovered such a wonderful home from home
-
Glad you have found a good rescue, and hope you enjoy yourself.
-
Glad you had a good time Amy ;D

Thanks all! Well I'm super toasty now. My ovens knackered so most of the heat that's supposed to be roasting spuds is currently baking me and my two furry friends. I think my body's thermostat is probably shot now too!
I've been on the phone to mum gabbling about how excited I am, she thinks I'm 'special' too. It's great on here because you lot understand the pleasure you can get from popping a new, fresh-smelling blanky into a bed and watching a cat climb in and paw away at the fleeciness before walking round in about three circles and curling up tightly in for a day's dreams :Luv2: .

Hey - that's fantastic! Another of life's gold plated people! :Luv:
Aw - I have a thing for cat's toes (Noosh **loves** to have her feet massaged) so one day I am sure that I will end up with a polydactyl cat! If you see a polydactyl persian, let me know. . . . . . . although on second thoughts, the very idea of that might make me implode!!
And I am intrigued by the two legged cat . . . . . I have to ask: are the remaining legs front two, back two, both on one side or one on each corner??!!
I am *so* pleased that you have found somewhere like this that makes you - and a whole bunch of cats, too - happy - I am seriously considering doing something very similar, too . . . . . .
-
Thats great Amy and hope the cats are warmer than you were ;D
I am also intrigued by the two legged cat.
-
The two legs are on the same side. Something to do with a pit accident. So many heartwarming/heartbreaking stories I'm confused as to which one's which. There are still a pair of stumps so she lives in a specially adapted pen with a spongy floor. She manages really well :Luv2:
-
Thats incredible, cant imagine how she gets around ;D
Was that a pit accident or a pitbull accident>
-
I think it used to be quite a heavy mining area round here. Ela will know more I'm sure. There are loads of mining tribute-style wheel things in all the villages.
There were a lot of cats from this "pit" wherever it is. Most accompanied by a sad tale
-
that's fantastic news CS ... really pleased for you and the rescue. It really sounds as though you feel much more energised by your visit to the shelter.
Look forward to future reports... sounds like they have some pretty amazing characters there. ;)
-
Yeah I think this is more about the stories than the rehoming side. The cats there are permanent residents
-
Porr cats sounds like they were trapped after a pitfall then :(
