Got a question for you: how can I [approximately] tell whether catnip does anything for Bubz?
She seems so disinterested in toys bought as having catnip in them that I'm wondering if she's in the minority who dont give any signs of liking it. If there's any way to gauge would you suggest trying valerian?

Think its safe to say catnip isnt doing it for her LOL! You would definitely be able to tell if it was having any effect on her. Worth trying valerian - be interested to know if she responds to that.
-
:thanks:
I'll have a look around for something SMALL for her..............

one of mine loves herbal teas - I had no idea until she tried to pull a teabag out of a cup once!
-
Charlie adored catnip when he first came, now he has no interest in it - not even new toys, not even Culpeppers!
-
The two are meant to have opposite effects, I thought. We have both anyway!
-
Catnip is an interesting one and some toys do not have very good or much nip in them.
I know of two excellent cat nip toys that Misa adores and Sasa loves but less than Misa and the birmans think they OK, all love my cat nip plants though.
I would watch the Purrs shop cos one of these catnip toys will be in stock shortly and if you rcats are gonna like catnip these will be the one ;D
I not sure when they will be there but I am sure Tan will announce it. So just be patient.
Another thing is that catnip if its good also reacts well if made damo and it smells more highly.
During the summer I make a sucky sock for Sasa, old sock filled with fresh catnip leaves from the plant and she loves the green soggy mess she makes ;D ;D
I have been sent some other kind of catnip which may or not be valerian and will be trying it with my cats shortly, so will let you know how it goes.
-
You need to try some good quality nip, my lot dont respond to kookamunga but love skitty kitty mice and the catac sacks that vetuk sell ;)
Valerian makes mine just as excited :tired:
-
The catnip cigars are in the shop and they are wonderful ;D
-
Are the cigars actually in stock - if so Im off to place my order Bengals + Catnip = absolutely hilarious
-
There's catnip and there's catnip and sadly no way for us to know in advance which is the real deal and which the fake talcum powder (ahem) stuff  Mine have a cigar and a banana and the latter is well destroyed by Max but the cigar isn't strong enough for his tastes. Best catnip toy was from America, the Kittyhoots range. It was a vet toy stuffed with 'zoom around the room' stuff and they minced it lol.
I'm going to wait and see on the new catnip toy on the Purrs shop - Swampy can't smell it any more, but Max can!
Where do you get pure valerian teabags btw as I can't find them?
-
This cigar is from the same place as the banana ;D
If he cant smell trry making it damp cos that may encourage him to chew it ;D
-
I scrunch the wiggly waggler to bring the smell out - also a quick spray of Kookamunga now & then
-
Winston in particular LOVES the cigars ( i get them from the cat shows -just look like cigars -brown ) he has at least 12 or so all round the house and under the bed and we have to play with a few of them every night before i get into bed !!! Hunt the cigar and can you catch it before i move it again !
Sophie and Bungly quite like them too -but Winston (as in his namesake !) goes really potty with them.
Bought some valerian ones off ebay off a really nice person who had persians too -but he didn''t bother with them at all .

I thought this too? I was considering getting valerian for Yagga as he is such a wild child with freaky ways! :scared:

Excuse the ignorance but what's kookamunga? thanks Gill for the tip about making the catnip banana a bit damp. Will have a try. May encourage him to eat if it works!
-
Mine hate the Kookamunga spray, Rolo doesn't bother with his catnip mouse much, yet Moses does, so I have no idea if the smell has gone or not.
-
Hes abandoned his skitty kitty mousey? Poor moses getting second hand mousey, it will pong of rolos bad breath
Kookamunga is a brand of nip that PAH sell, mine just ignore it, infact i used the spray as a deterrent when they were being naughty and beating up tabitha :evillaugh:
-
He has, but fortunately Moses and Zi dont seem to mind. Moses does go for anything catnip though.
-
Mine didnt like Kookamunga catnip either but they do like the cigars ;D
And they like mine too

Thought you only used a pipe? :innocent:
C'mon peeps....when giving your cat valerian tablets what effect should this bring on? I dont know the answer but needs to know please? :-:

I'd like to know what kind of reaction I might expect too.

I don't use valerian tablets, but I've used valerian drops from Dorwest http://www.dorwest.com/prodinfo.asp?number=VAL - it has a calming effect, so its great to use for a few days before taking nervous cats to vets for instance. Just put drops in food or directly in mouth. Many cats are really attracted to the smell of valerian - my Harry will rub his face all round the dropper bottle of valerian when I open the cupboard its in! Its also useful for fighting cats! - I've used it to great effect to calm things down between Harry and Jasper! ;D

It's meant to make them mellow, man. ;) And as far as I'm aware catnip makes them go a bit mad.....well, it does my lot anyway!
-
My last cat went crazy for valerian and could smell it from a great distance. You had to be careful if you were holding it as he would rip it from your hand :evillaugh:
Archie on the other hand shows no interest in it at all 8)
My visiting cats love catnip and drowl all over it

I think Bubz really Likes valerian!
DHL just delivered some more toys - when will I learn! :) - and I opened a valerian filled cushion (tiny) and she is currently on her back playing with the thing!
She's now crouching over it so if she keeps this up i can say yes, valerian does it for her! Its certainly a far more positive response than to catnip.

The 30ml catnip that zooplus sells is VERY strong, its like an essential oil in water as you can see the globs floating about. I can smell it and the cats love it :Luv:
-
Oooh yes! It is potent!! And pungent!
I'm only letting Bubz have it for a few minutes at a time!
Helen!
