Title: Trigger and Oscar!
Post by: Bazsmum on March 12, 2008, 13:00:20 PM
Here are the result of my 1st attempt at fostering..... :-:

They are semi feral farm kittens who were in desperate need for human interaction and heat!

Trigger..... :Luv:

How long have you had them now? I remember ages ago you querying the size of dog crates

Ive had them from a week before Xmas.....and will have them forever as I was a total failure!  :( but  ;D really...

I dont know whether it was me being me or what.....I was quite shocked at the conditions of them and dont know if it was just "the norm"?

I had to sex them, flea and worm them, take one to the vets for cystitis treatment etc....was a bit overwhelmed by it all....and as the kits have/are gradually coming round I find myself not wanting to never not know them again!  :shy:

I did'nt even get the expected "kitten pen" I was asking about on here!  :-:

Yes Gill.....I really admire the peeps on here (and elsewhere) who are successful fosterers...alas it was not for me...I am far too dramatic!  :shy:

Ahh, its hard letting them go but without doing that you cant help anymore, people like delsey have helped so many cats that otherwise may not have had much time left  :(

Ferals can come in quite a mess, did you expect the rescue to have tidied them up abit before letting you take them? I would expect fleas to be dealt with and a check up before letting them travel but not everyone does things properly  :scared:

How many have you got know then?  :scared:

What a shame you are a failed fosterer, at least these two are safe, but it would have been nice for the rescue to have had another pair of hands. Sadly fostering doesn't always mean you get nicely clean, healthy cats/kittens, although it does sound like the rescue should have done more. My first foster with fleas actually came through our vets, he was a pts drop off that they obviously never checked - I had taken in a stray the day before who had no fleas, yet he came from a house!!

I know Des & MM! It certainly opened my eyes..... :scared: I dont want to mention any names/rescue etc as this lady does have a heart! I think thats a big part of me keeping schtum about these two!

I so wish I had been able to do the expected thing....and I am certainly not saying that my feelings are stronger than rescue peeps etc.....Like I said I am a soppy soul and unfortunately my heart rules my head!  :(

....I read the stories on here about you Des, DD, T and so on (APOLOGIES TO ANYONE NOT MENTIONED!  :shy:) and I know that they get the kits checked over, flead & wormed and last but not least sexed and so silly naive me thinks..."should'nt be a prob doing this"  :-:

Depending on age, it might have been hard to sex them. We picked up a 'female' stray last year, he looked feminine, so no one thought to check him, and it was only picked up at the vets, I assumed too. Althoguh admittedly, it wasn't obvious to the vet - and he was around 2yo!

I have made tons of allowances in my mind Des..... :scared: These kittens were approx 3 months old, and had been with the rescue for 2 weeks! I found out their sex after having them for two days!

I could understand if these kits were straight from the farm/vets etc....but not when they were in a pen for that amount of time... ;)

I am fully aware what conditions cats can come in....I have took a few off the streets...and within 24 hrs (usually) they will be at the vets for a check up!  ;D

Ruth, what an amazing thing you've done. Yes, even keeping them. Don't call yourself a failure at it, just that you are foster challenged  ;)  I couldn't do it, I know I would never give them back or rehome them. I just think its lovely you've taken another 2 into your brood.  :Luv:

Tigger is really lovely, he's like an Aby with Bengal spots. He is really coming on now, even lets me stroke him, he's a fusspot. Oscar is still wary of me.
