Title: Best antiseptic cream?
Post by: tiga on March 10, 2008, 09:14:09 AM
Hi

I've only just got two new cats - they are from the same family, but been having a few spats. One has a cut just behind his ear and I think he is taking the scab of his scratch when he washes himself. What is the best antiseptic cream to put on the scratch?

I've had a look and it's not a bite or deep.

Thanks
Anne

As far as I know human antiseptic creams can't be used on cats as they're poisonous to them.  If it's just a light scratch then cooled, boiled salt water should do the trick.

I thought hibiscrub was a handwash and surface disinfectant?  I could be wrong - they might do an antiseptic cream too?

Teresa recommended it to me when Tilly grazed her chin recently - its not a cream but a liquid that's right

Hypercal cream can be used safely on cats  and is very effective http://www.nelsonshomoeopathy.co.uk/coffee/pages/0991764625.shtml

HiBiSCRUB is a antimicrobial skin cleaner, I provide all the fosterers with it. (For their personal use I might add not the cats)

Thanks. I have used water with some salt in and he doesn't seem to mind me doing it surprisingly.

Hibiscrub is brilliant, I always have a bottle indoors.

Failing that you can use warm salty water.

Or there is a cream you can get from your vet, begins with the letter "F" but cant remember the name  :evillaugh:
