Yesterday morning everything was fine, then I realised that Jess had been in his litter tray for a while, we kept an eye out and he was in there about 10 minutes, quickly decided to take him to the vets. coaxed him out and he had hardly passed any urine, this worried me as I knew the cystitis had gone to the next level which could mean his bladder was blocked.
Saw the vet who was concerned and sent us straight to the hospital (our vets is a branch surgery) we had to pop home first as we don't drive to get a taxi, got home and Jess wouldn't come out of his vet box and Milo was licking his head so they knew something was up.
Got to the vets who were brilliant, he was admitted straight away, they sedated him and insterted a catheter, his bladder was quite full but we were VERY lucky we caught it in time, (the vet couldn't believe we had caught it so early) his kidneys and potassium levels are fine and we're waiting for the urine results.
The vets called us 3 hours after he was admitted and told us he was fine coming round from the sedation. I called last night and the duty nurse said he was a bit miserable and hadn't eaten the renal food (he won't touch the stuff so not surprised). We're hoping to go and see him this morning.
Milo has been really good, his looked for Jess but has been eating and is very clingy, I'm a mess I'm very scared and I miss him alot, just want him home. He'll be at the vets for at least 48 horus and they won't realise him till his urinated on his own.

Hope Jess is better today and manages a pee. Great that you were so vigilant and saved the day. Big hug to you both
-
I agree - Sounds like the vets will have made him comfortable and he will be fine
-
Hope Jess is feeling better!
-
Aww, glad you caught it soon, fingers crossed for him.
-
Awww, well done you for catching this so early
Jess will be fine, try not to worry
-
Poor Jess  It sounds like he's in good hands now though so should be fine. It's so important to catch a potential blockage early so well done for spotting the symptoms and acting so promptly.
-
Poor Jess and poor you, but well done you for reacting so fast. Hope he's back to his normal self asap.
-
Thanks everyone :Luv:
We've been to see him this morning, and he was thrilled to see us, the VN's said he had been pretty miserable till then, he looks quite bright eyed. His still on a drip and hadn't eaten his renal food, but whilst we were there he did eat some.
The catheter is likely to come out tomorrow but he'll have to wee on his own before coming home.
-
Give the little man a big :cuddle: from us. Lexy know's what Jess is going through, but being a girl she knows she got off lightly in comparison. Hope he gets home soon to you.
-
Well done on catching him early, its very painful for them :( my 'neighbour' left theres til he was really really ill and couldnt move >:(
Has his urine analysis come back yet?
-

When my Ben had this problem and had to stay in the vets my vet was concerned that he still hadnt wee'd on his own whilst in the surgery, but she thought he would do better at home in familiar surroundings (obviously me to keep a close eye on him to see if he did wee), and it was several hours after he came home that he did wee on his own (following him round, watching like a hawk - discreetly LOL!) - and then it was full flood! Can't tell you how relieved I felt (and him, I'm sure!!)
Hope Jess is ok.
-
yes well done from me too for acting so fast, hope he makes a speedy recovery, sending lots of love and hugs to you both :Luv:

Smartie got it twice - the second time he stayed at the vets day and didn''t wee so they kept him there all night -he did a wee -and tipped the tray over ( he has a hooded one and always goes right at the very back of it !)
They let him come home then the next day , he had an injection and i got a sample and took it back -he had crystals and went onto Hills s/d , he is now on c/d and has been fine ever since .
That was about 5-6 years ago.
Very good for catching it so early - i knew the minute he went in and out the tray that night about 4 times and rang the vet immedietly , luckily it was just at the end of surgery and he ask how long it would take me to get there - i said about 15-20 mins as its 15 miles away -so he waited and saw to him for me.
-
Poor jess and so pleased you caught this early
I am sure he will be as pleased as you when he comes home ;D
-
Sounds like Jess is doing very well thanks to your prompt action. ;D
-
Thanks again everyone its nice to talk to people who understand :Luv:
I'm about to call the vets for an update, the urine sample came back okay - well okay in that there was nothing they didn't expect to see in it given his toilet trouble, there are no crystals.
If the catheter comes out today I can't see him weeing on his own at the vets, his so particular about going to the toilet, he only wee's around twice a day as it is,
Its my birthday tomorrow and the best present would be to have my little man home
-
Keeping fingers and toes crossed that Jess has a wee today for you
-
Jess has had a comfortable night and manged to eat a bowl of food whilst no one was watching, (he does like his privacy)
The vet is going to call me this morning so talk about what the plan for today is
-
I should add Milo has been very clingy this weekend, and has been sharing our bed, his been stretched out under the covers and hubby and I have been balancing on the end.
This morning though Milo wouldn't eat so I had to pretend to eat it, and then he ate it
-
:birthday: Hope Jess carries on doing well and is home in time to celebrate with you
-
Aww thank you :Luv:

Sorry, I know I shouldn't but I can't help myself -

Update, Jonathan, Jess’s vet just called, Jess is fine, they are going to take the catheter out and keep the drip in to keep the fluids topped up. They are confident that he will wee this afternoon and be able to come home – I’m not as Jess is a private cat and likes to go in his own time.
IF he doesn’t wee he can’t come home, and it might mean the blockage is still there and that would mean he’ll have to be catheterised again.

-

-
Fingers crossed our wee vibes worked :wish: and you're birthday will be a lovely one xxxx

I went to visit last night and Jess still hadn't wee'd, initally I was really concerned because he wasn't himself at all, he didn't get up and was just lolling around, I spoke to the VN who said its perfectly normal (even though he had jumped us to see us the day before) because he had been in alot of pain and only just had his buster collar removed, after a while he did manage to get up and come over to me, and he promptly wet himself twice, there was blood but they said it was normal.
I was with him half an hour and as I was leaving the litter tray was put back in the kennel and he used it - YAY I was so proud,
Anyway I've just had a call from the vets and he can come home this afternoon :Luv: I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have my boy back,
-
  So pleased for you ;D
-
Awwww brilliant news :wow: ;)

-
Yay! ;D Well done Jess for using the litter tray at the vets!
-
Great news! ;D

Sorry I've not been on for further updates,
I had a long chat with the vet when I collected Jess, he was great and went though EVERYTHING with me as I had a long list of questions, I managed to get Jess home okay in a taxi but he was getting stressed, we had an awful driver. When I got him home though he started weeing very soon literally going from one tray to the other, after a bit this settled down, Milo was keen to play but Jess wasn't at all.
Around 2 hours later Hubby came home and just started the weeing business again going from the downstairs tray to the upstaris tray and using his bed inbetween, so I called the vets and they said to pop him back (which in itself is not easy as we don't drive and the vet hospital is in the next town) but we did, they checked him over and gave him a Dexadreson or Dexafort (I can't remember which) injection and we've got to give him Nisamox for the next week.
Since that his been much better and weeing little and often, his not entertaining Milo at all though and keeps hissing at him, which worries me but if his feeling tender and a bit stressed then I guess we've got to expect this.
I was at home with them yesterday but I'm back at work today, hopefully they will be okay (my nerves are shot to pieces though)
Jess is on special food for the long term his slowly eating it but he isn't a fan of it really
-
Poor chap having nasty food. Is it dry by any chance?
See interesting thread: http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,11904.0.html (http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,11904.0.html)
If he keeps having problems id request an xray as they can have stones without crystals showing in a urine sample.
-
No its not dry food, Its Royal Canin but its wet and slightly salty to make him pass urine quicker and drink more (not that I've seen him drink yet), the vet was sure it wasn't stones but they didn't xray he has the mass was formed of blood.
That was a really interesting link, I think I'm going to have to go with what our vet suggests for now, I've also spoken to my work vet who has assured me that its for the best for now.
-
How is Jess now?
