Title: Tough fountain decision. Standard or Platinum? Advice please!
Post by: Corporal Smokey on February 29, 2008, 08:47:35 AM
Well, that's it really. I'm going to get a Drinkwell fountain because Corporal Naughty keeps straddling my CatIt one and then thinking it's funny to jump on clean stuff  .

The main differences I can see is the Platinum has another filter-important for when my delightful little monsters like to throw biscuits into the water, it is supposed to be quieter and has a snap-on lid. The Original has the extras available like the wheatgrass pods-which my two would love, and is £15 cheaper.

Anyone have either? Which would you recommend?

Oh, and no pressure but I need to make a purchase tonight to take full advantage of the 10% off at VetUk!

We have got the platinum and from what i can remember from when we were looking for one the Platinum one is bigger and has a resevoir on the back.  The Benglies think its great for both drinking and showering

I've had both and I think the Platinum one is better, quieter, holds more water and keeps the flow better and longer in between cleans. With the normal one I had to get the extra reservoir but it still didn't last as long as the platinum's built in water reservoir.

I had a standard one that lasted for 3 years. You can hear the motor and when it gets low it gushes quite loud. I recently got a platinum and it is virtually silent and with the extra reservoir, it rarely runs out. One downside of the platinum is recently it did run out of water and it trashed the motor. Luckily I had a spare motor as when it was first delivered, the plug was damaged so vetuk sent me a new plug which came with a motor  ;D - The standard one has a different type of motor and although it is noisier, it took a real battering over 3 years - I left it on 24/7 and the water ran low loads of times without any problems. I would say get the platinum and if the motor goes, just tell them it packed up  :evillaugh:

Oh no! Don't tell me that! I'm sure Smokey will find a way of clambering in for a shower...

Thanks, looks like the Platinum is in the lead. I'm used to topping up as the CatIt runs low now and again.

Anyone tried the Wheatgrass pods? Do you think they'll bring them out to fit the Platinum? If you don't know what I'm harping on about, here they are...

I've had the platinum one now for a few months. I much prefer it to the standard for all the reasons the other peeps have given

I bought Lexy the Platinum purely because it made little noise... she still ignores it.  :tired:  So have i empty sitting in the back room ready for when we pack up and move (if house sells!).

I love it though, think it runs really well.
