Title: 2x dental today!
Post by: fluffybunny on February 21, 2008, 19:46:09 PM
I'm not looking forward to having to resist feeding two screeching cats in the morning   I'm only taking them in when they're ready for them, because Geoffrey is so nervous he just sits and shakes when he's away from home.  Hopefully it should just be nice and routine and they'll be right as rain very soon!

Thanks all, I've got two hungry and now slightly quiet cats, I think they are wondering why mummy isn't giving them any breakfast :'(  Got to be done though and I'm sure they'll feel a lot better afterwards!

Milly has forgiven me and has been sitting on my lap for the past hour or so, Geoffrey is a bit more sulky so he may not want to come near me until it's time to wake me up during the night  :naughty:  They've both had some dinner and seem fine in themselves so that's great.  My credit card is less happy though

Pleased it went well for them both, every time I see Geoffrey's name it cracks me up - that's such a classy name for a cat  :)

Why thank you!  It cracks me up too, he was called Rio when he arrived but he just looks so much like a Geoffrey I just couldn't resist   Hubby took a bit more persuading but he has finally caved in.  It's really funny hearing the vet call his name as she's from New Zealand so it comes out very much like a Jiffry

My two boys need dentals and the vet said I could take them in together - I'm saving for it, but am REALLY nervous about it. One of them is 11 and the other is 13. How did you cope ith the worry? :shy:

Glad they're both OK. :)

Jack my Dragan had dentals at 16 and 17.  The one at 17 went the best as the vet kept him on a drip throughout.  He recovered amazingly well and quickly and you wouldn't have known he had had an op.  The one he had at 16 was done by my former vet in whom I lost all faith later on but it took him a while to recover from this and I don't think they had him on a drip.

It's always worrying, especially when they are a little older, but I discussed all my concerns with the vet and things were ok.

Funnily enough with these two I was pretty fine - they are both around 8 and in good health, and I have complete trust in my vet.  When my previous cat Sooty had a dental at around 18.5 years old I was absolutely climbing the walls though, I was sick with worry all day and really couldn't concentrate at work.  I think you've just got satisfy yourself that you're confident in the vet, and keep yourself busy during the day.  With both I resisted the urge to ring on a regular basis by working on the principle that no news is good news - if they weren't ringing me, then everything must be ok.  Although with Sooty I did ring at lunchtime to see how it had gone anyway  :evillaugh:

Its so much safer these days JS
You have to think that a cat cant survive with a nasty mouth so the small risk of a dental is going to improve things no end  ;D

I have had dentals done on 13yo's with no issues (and the two boys were overweight - and no drips), they are the oldest so far, but Zi has bad teeth that will need sorting at some point this year, and she is 18 this year (just need to decide when her birthday can be)
