Just got my renewal documents from M&S and read through their new Premier offering! Well I'd already heard about the stupid condition about ringing a vet nurse helpline before going to out of hours vet, which had pretty much decided me that I won't stay with M&S. Some of the other conditions are completely ridiculous too for instance: prescription food which was previously covered to manage an illness, new cover quote: 'The cost of prescription food from you vet used to diagnose an illness IS covered' - BUT 'The cost of prescription food after a diagnosis has been made is NOT covered' eh?
Sill on prescription diets - excluded anyway are 'prescription foods to prevent the formation of bladder stones and crystals in urine' - wonder why? obviously because it is so common these days too many claims for it!!! >:(
My premuim for Jasper has doubled and even though he has CRF and I've claimed from M&S I will not be renewing his insurance. Zeta is the only other cat I've got insured with M&S and I will not be renewing hers either. Both Jasper and Zeta are over 9 which means now the excess is £75 PLUS 20% of the rest of the cost of any treatment!!! >:(
What is the point of pet insurance? They are all just in it for the money, they are playing on people's emotions, you might just as well save that same amount every month in a savings account, at least you won't be making any deductions or placing ridiculous conditions!
Rant over :innocent:

Oh dear I just insured Charlie with M & S but I think you are right when you say that most of them are like all insurance companies ie want to take your premiums but will not pay out if possible.
-
M&S are way over the top and obviously its your choice who you insre with but I wouldnt touch M$S with a barge pole and if it was me, and you are paying monthly I would get away from M&S immediately.
There are so many threads on here about insurance and all those written in last 5-6 months warns about M&S.

I still havent got around to deciding who to go with :-[ i must sort it out this week, thanks for reminding me :thanks:
I insure mine for peace of mind in regards to big things, if they get clipped by a car and need extensive work to save a leg il get what i need, its a bonus that i get smaller things covered.
Im lucky that my vet knows me and would probably set up a payment plan if i wasnt covered

I got my renewal details for Molly today. Firstly I was annoyed at the large increase (also when I get a quote online for a new policy it's still £30 cheaper than what they sent today). 2nd they automatically set me up with the premier account and it's up to me to contact them to change things. Also the vet phone thing, all the things they did cover but won't cover now .. such as hydrotherapy, prescription food etc.
Needless to say I'm switching to AXA.
On a side note I was quite shocked at the amount of dog breeds that aren't insurable.

Dog breeds not insurable?? I wonder what they are and why.
Next step will be cat breeds that are not insurable , I guess grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I do wonder why M&S got into insurance at all.

Well they have your pedigree section and mixed but they also have a section for cross breeds (all the doodle dogs - labradoodle, goldendoodle etc). They used to not insure Shar Peis (too many health problems). They are no longer on the list but American Bulldogs have made the list now. It used to be Shar Pei's and the 4 breeds which are illegal in the UK, now there are 22 breeds. This does include the various names used by people to hide the fact a dog is a Pitbull. What I don't understand the designer 'breeds' are ok but Utonagans and Northern Inuits aren't.
