Post by: MBll on February 19, 2008, 18:38:17 PM
Im soooo sorry to bring sad news  in the world of rescue but I have just been told that Jan of cupar cats in fife has sadly died a few days ago after being rushed into hosiptal.   I was IMd (instant message) by someone that new jan as I did from being in petchat on aol.

I have not met jan but have spoken to her a few times on the phone  awhile ago & aways thought I might meet her ...I would so have liked to.   If sarah would  like to pass my condolences on to her family tom & daughter & alll at the rescue i would apprecate it very much.

Im so shocked at this sad news & sitting here in tears.   I have been told that jan would prefer any donation to the rescue then flowers which i will send.   I didnt know wither to phone & ask about jan as i was worried   in case it was a bad time    :'(

Hi Guys,

The news you have heard is correct.  Sorry for not having put anything up myself but to be honest we are all still coming to terms with it ourselves and I can't actually type or speak about it without becoming very upset.  I am typing through blurry eyes just now and this has also been why I've not been on the forum so much this last week.    It happened very suddenly on Valentines Day which took us all by surprise and to be honest it hasn't really sunk in yet, perhaps it will after the funeral on Monday.

Jan was bed ridden from around October last year after what was originally suspected as a snapped tendon in her groin.  At Christmas we found out that it was in fact a return of her cancer which was very aggressive and had taken hold of her lung (she only had 1), her liver and had gone onto affect her bones too.  The problem being it had eaten away her pelvis not a snapped tendon.

In January we were told Jan would have approx 6months to a year but this reduced to approx 4 months.  At the very least we all expected to have her with us for a few weeks more than we did.  I have spent every day since last October being her best friend, carer and confidant and miss her terribly.  :(

She was rushed into hospital last week with breathing difficulties and eventually succombed to the cancer on the morning of the 14th.  A very fast and sudden end that none of us were expecting as she had had a few wonderful days beforehand and was back to her ususal sarcastic, bossy self. ;)

It was very very peaceful and she was in no pain at all when she passed.   She had her husband Tom and her daughter with her at the time.

It was Jan's last wish that CATS continue its work for the cats of Fife and our goal is to make her final wish do just that.  Work is continuing at the shelter as normal and we will continue to dedicate our time and efforts to continue the work that Jan started some 18years ago and hope that she is looking down from above.  No doubt with plenty of smart ass comments to boot!   ;)

Her funeral is on Monday and yes Rattie, her request was that no flowers be at her funeral and instead donations to CATS should people wish to do something.

I'd like to think she is up there looking down us all, just wish I could call or see her one last time.

I will of course pass on everyone's kind wishes to Tom and the family.

Sarah

Sarah,

So sorry for the loss of your friend, my condolences to her family.
She has obviously inspired many, and through her hard work and commitment has left a wonderful legacy for the cats of Fife.

I am sorry to read that, I know of Jan from years ago when I fist joined AOL chat. I know at that time she had health problems  but hoped that she was now cured. She will be a great  loss to the little ones
