Sadly on Thursday we had the news that we have long been dreading, Buster the President of Paws Inn is terminally ill. Buster age 22 has seen the vet monthly for injections for over 10 years and somehow we felt as if, and hoped, he would be around forever. I wont be asking the Good Lord for a life saving miracle but I am praying that when his time comes it is peaceful and with dignity.
Buster has made so many friends over the years and has a great deal of admirers on this forum .
At present Buster is comfortable and with his girlfriends Tula and Anastasia and was able to enjoy the Applaws that his favourite Aunty Claire brought for his tea.
For those who haven`t had the pleasure of meeting this old charmer here`s his story

Aww, I do hope he has some good quality time left. I know you will do the best by him T.
-
Bless him, how sad that he is reaching the end of an incredibly long life. He has been a lucky boy to have had you to care for him and I too hope he has more quality time and that finally his end is peaceful.
-
He's such a handsome old man. He certainly doesn't look 22.
What a lucky guy to have you caring for him, Teresa.
-
as you say, T, at home, with the ones who love him and with dignity ...
-
Oh Teresa, thats so sad, i do pray that when the time comes Buster goes peacefully. :(
Isnt there anything else the vet can do to help him?
   To you and Buster.
-
Teresa, I am in tears, but this came to me from somewhere, I know not where...
You saved my life. You rescued me from hell
and brought me to a haven here on earth.
Soon golden angels will tend to my needs:
be sure I'll tell them who loved me so well.
-
I am so sorry to hear this and Buster doesnt look his age at all and looks like he has years left.
Makes me so sad that his time may be coming soon
-
Hopefully when his time comes may it be at home, with the ones who love him and at a time that you will all be ready for
He is a wonderful boy and a credit to you
-
Oh T I'm so sorry ... sending lots of love and healing vibes for Buster. He is one very special boy who is lucky to have you caring for him.
-
What a truely handsome gentleman he is, Im sorry to hear the beautiful boy is so poorly. How lucky he was to have found someone so kind and caring. I hope his time with you continues to be pain free and when the time comes for him to go to the bridge its with peace
   to you Teresa and a special big head kiss to Mr Hansome from all of my babies

i have just read the story on Buster and saw his pictures, oh he is so lovely, :Luv: and as the others have said "he does'nt look 22"! i am so sorry to hear he is poorly, hope you have a bit longer with him.
:hug:to you :hug:and Buster
-
I am so sorry. Buster certainly does look good for 22. now he is a true Golden oldie.
-
Oh T. I can't believe it. I'm really very sorry T.
I know he's a good little man and a true trooper and is certainly is the fastest 22 year old I've seen :Luv2:
A big cuddle from me, A and Lexy. xxx
-
I am so sorry T :'( He is a very lucky boy to have had you love and care for him all these years. He's an absolutely fantastic boy and I love him to bits. He is the only cat I have met that is older than me and he has such a look of wisdom in his eyes but otherwise doesn't look his age at all, a very special boy.
Please would you give him a gentle cuddle from me. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers
-
Yes I remembered "meeting" Buster the handsome chap on Teresa's page, too sad that there comes a time to go even for him... :'(
I am glad though that he got to enjoy a good life being loved and cared for at least for the second part of his life. Hope he will keep on enjoying it to the very end.
My loving thoughts will be with him and you.
-
Sorry to hear this T
Buster is a very handsome fellow and doesn't appear his age at all :Luv:
He is an absolute credit to you
-
So Sorry Teresa, he is a truly handsome boy and what a lovely life he lives with you. He is definately a young lookin 22 and that is a credit to the care and love he has received from you xx
-
Sorry to hear about Buster :( He definitely doesn't look his age.
-
What an incredible story and what a trooper Buster has been for so long. I hope and pray that he can live his remaining time with you in peace and dignity. Sounds like he's had a wonderful life with you caring so much for him, after a horrendous beginning, not that that is much comfort to you right now. He's a lovely boy and I send you both a big hug
-
Thank you all for your kind words. The picture on Busters story was taken about 9 months ago and he looks very different today with over a kilogram less of him to cuddle. We are hoping that he will last a few more weeks but his decline is obvious on a daily basis now so all we can do is take each day as it comes, and of course every day is a bonus.
-
Well here's hoping the old gent gets many many days
-
So Sorry to hear about Buster :(
My Thought's are with you Both
-
Hope that you and Buster get many days of bonus
-
So sorry to hear about Buster. My OH, sister and myself all had the pleasure of meeting Buster (and his Harem) at the Paws inn christmas social. He is such a lovely cat, and a shining example of the love you have for all the kitties in your care.
Tare care Buster xxxx
-
Sorry to hear Buster is not doing so well  Treasure every day you have left with him, as you have every day of his life with you so far
-
Sending   to Buster and you Teresa.xxx

He looks & sounds a wonderful puss, so sorry.

So so sorry to hear about Buster, having also had the pleasure to meet him in the fur his pictures don't do his handsome face enough justice :Luv:
 from me and Jon

So sorry to hear that Buster is failing
-
Thinking of Buster and yourself T......I hope he gets the peaceful end he deserves........
-
Sorry T, he may surprise you again - hoping for the best
-
What a handsome chap he is :Luv:
Ging says he is 18 and doesn't look half as good as Mr Buster :Luv2:
-
Teresa, so sorry to hear about gorgeous Buster - as everyone has said he is the purrfect example of the love and care that you give to all at Paws Inn. Thinking of you both.
-
Hi Teresa, how is Buster ? Thinking of you and him.
-
Hope he is still happy and comfortable
-
Buster has eaten his breakfast, its seems after living on prescription diet for over 10 years he has developed a taste for Applaws. the old charmer sleeps with Anastasia ( his other girlfriend Tula is giving him a wide berth,She probably knows); this morning Olly decided he wanted to get in on the act and gently washed Busters head. Buster is so lucky to have such wonderful friends both furry and humam.
-
glad Buster is comfortable and enjoying his friends company
-
Looks like Auntie Claire will need to bring some more Applaws with her on Saturday or President Buster won't let me in the house or give me a cuddle. I wonder if he might like to try the Chicken and Cheese variety? Garcia says he would be honoured to share his hoard with Buster and that he thinks the one with cheese is definitely the best.
On a serious note - I am glad that he is eating something.
Cuddles and lots of love as always to him.
Claire xxx
-
Max vouches for the 'chicky cheese' flavour Applaws as well, he says its very scrummy and he's sure Buster would like it :)
-
Glad Buster has such friends both human and cat varieties to look after him.
-
So sorry to hear this T :(
I hope for him and you that the last of his time is spent doing what he loves to do
-
How lovely that his furry friends are looking after him.
-
How lovely to imagine him surrounded by loving friends looking after him. Please add my virtual cuddles to that :Luv:
-
Oh Teresa I am so sorry to have read this just now, To echo what many others have said you have been truly blessed to have had his company for so long and he has been extremely fortunate to have had you and your family/friends to care for and love him so much.
I have always adored that photo of him on the staircase, his eyes are really a picture into his soul I think :Luv:
We shall pray he slips peacefully into the next world when he feels ready and meantime you enjoy many happy shared moments
Christines post was wonderful even if it has me in floods of tears
-
We shall pray he slips peacefully into the next world when he feels ready and meantime you enjoy many happy shared moments
I so agree with Lynns sentiment and I am also pleased he is enjoying his food
-
In many ways Buster is at a great advantage, many poorly elderly cats often need prescription food, in Busters case hes endured over 10 years of lower urinary tract support and now he can have anything he likes; no wonder my boy is eating albeit little and often. He usually likes to go out in the garden for 5 minutes morning and afternoon but thankfully today he decided not to bother.
Going into vets in morning and will ask vet to go over test results again as something is niggling me.
-
How did you go on at the vet's?
-
What were the bloods suggesting T ? anything in particular or a generalised decline ?
Eating little and often is prob a good thing too for his digestive system and may mean he's getting more benefit of the nutrition he is ingesting.
-
Asked Andy for a second opinion this morning.( Buster saw rebecca last week). Andy checked Busters results and said they were too bizarre to be true; he requested I take Buster straight in to repeat the tests which are being sent to an external laboratory as Andy feels the machine has struggled with Busters results. Andy has examined Buster and repeated the tests, his gut feeling is that Buster is dying but he asks that I wait until the results from the new tests come back and then we will go through things thoroughly. i`ve a glimmer of hope in my heart but my head says not. I just explained to a friend that I feel like a yo yo on a rollercoaster.
Lynne the bloods were indicative of secondarys already being present.
-
A big :grouphug: for you T. Buster is such a favourite of mine, you only have to be in his presence to know what royalty is :Luv: I hope this set of result produces some hope.
-
Aww, I do hope things look better on the second tests.
-
When will you get Buster's new results, Teresa?
xC
-
I'll be keeping everything crossed for that glimmer of hope from the second results when they come in
-

-
Fingers crossed for the new results
-
Will be thinking of you both, hoping that you really do here some good news xxx
-
When will you get Buster's new results, Teresa?
Andy says by Tuesday at the latest but it may be as soon as tomorrow. I know I should feel overjoyed to have a glimmer of hope but somehow I feel as if I am living my worst nightmare, I am just glad that Buster doesnt realise all thats gone on.
-
   I just hope Buster is comfortable and feeling well in the mean time. I really hope he gets to hang with you and his friends a wee bit longer, if he is well enough!!
-
I really feel for you on what you say is a rollercoaster of hopes and worst fears. I hope you can spend as much time cuddling with Buster as possible whatever the tests say and that both of you enjoy each others company for as long as possible
-
I, too, feel for you at this awful time.
-
What a terrible time to go through, I hope the results are good news
-
Teresa, thinking of you and Buster.

Thinking about you and Buster
-
I understand about the in house machines struggling Teresa, they are usually very good but in certain cases with very "difficult" blood they can become very confused.
I hope you get the results sooner than tues and of course they are very different to the first ones.
-
Aww, it is an awful place to be in T, I hope they come back sooner for your peace of mind. Will be thinking of both of you.
-
How's the lovely old fella doing today?
-
When will you get Buster's new results, Teresa?
Andy says by Tuesday at the latest but it may be as soon as tomorrow. I know I should feel overjoyed to have a glimmer of hope but somehow I feel as if I am living my worst nightmare, I am just glad that Buster doesnt realise all thats gone on.
Any news, Teresa?
I so feel for you at this time  but yes, do take comfort from the fact that Buster is oblivious to all this and just enjoying his Applaws.
xC
-
No news yet, today has been easier as I have busied myself with a new arrival
Buster is still enjoying his food and home comforts but he is still shrinking.
-
So sad Teresa but at least he seems to be enjoying himself

Thinking of you and Buster.

Just had Andy vet on phone with Busters new results on a Sunday afternoon the last thing I expected. There is still a slight hope.
I havent seen results yet but Andy says many of the Bizarre ones are improved, he says unfortunately they are not improved enough to rule out that Buster is dealing with tumours so he is going to do an abdominal scan on him tomorrow morning.
So maybe our lad is not as past his sell by date as the vets first put him; Thank God I didnt consider letting him go.I am just so overwhelmed and relieved and full of hope at the minute my brain is in the clouds and I refuse to worry about scan until tomorrow.
But I am going to pray for a miracle.
-
What a rollercoaster! Hope things go well.
-
Hope every thing goes well tomorrow for Buster.
-
 to Buster for tomorrow. Let us know how it goes, Teresa, and be sure to give Buster some Applaws for being brave :)

Just caught up with this thread Teresa. By the way, thanks for the email. Been busy lately on the missing cat front.
I'm sure that you know by now that my best wishes go out to you in everything you do and to all the felines who find true love and comfort in your care.
I'll be thinking of Buster. Tell him that there are some powerful positive vibes heading his way from all round the country and that he should take them on board and let them flow and help strengthen his fight.
-
Thinking of Buster and yourself today T.....really hoping for good results.....
-
Just back from vet with Buster; scan has shown tumour in right kidney but Andy says its impossible to tell whether its primary or secondary without opening him up - thats not an option in both vets opinion and mine, at least we are now certain just hoping its a slow growing primary.
Buster was a true gentleman for the vets and managed without sedation; I`m so proud of my boy even if he does have a bald sticky tummy.
Buster is happy to be home again and enjoyed a little of Aunty Claires applaws.
-
Oh Teresa, i do pray its a slow growing one, i really do.
Buster is a true Gentleman , he is lovely and we all love him very much.
Love and   To you and Buster.x
-
Sorry the news wasn't more positive  Please give Buster a gentle head kiss from me
-
sorry to hear that, lets hope and pray it's slow growing.
thinking of you and Buster
chris
-
Sorry the news wasnt what we'd hoped. However you might now feel a little better somehow knowing exactly what the problem is after the scan rather than a list of possiblilitys and we can all hope that it is slow growing.
-
At least you know what it is now, do hope its slow growing
-
Ah poor old fella. Let's just hope that it's slow growing and he has a long time to enjoy his Applaws. for you  for Buster
-
Poor
old kitten Buster.I hope he has a long time left with you
-
So many of us love Buster so much

Just want to say that Buster may be 22 but up to now he has never been old, and has always made the most of his kittenhood. :)
-

As I am sure he still is ;D
-

Oh hunnie I am sorry about the news :(
-
Buster sends his thanks for all the kisses and cuddles and good wishes from everyone.
Ellie good to see you back but no tears please Buster would prefer you to think of him with the big happy smile you had when you first met him.
Buster will never be the kitten he was but he is still enjoying his life and secretly his overweight girlfriend Anastasia is enjoying the fact that Buster is having so many meals for her to help polish off.

-
Hey theres fight in the old mog yet I think :sneaky:
Thinking of you T
-
Hows Buster T ?
-
Buster is doing ok thanks Lynn, he is picky with his food but eating lots of tiny amounts often. Our boy is a fighter and since April last year has been fighting for water so I am sure his huge water intake will stand him in good stead. Apart from the extra meals we have decided to treat him as normal for as long as possible.
-
Glad to hear he is doing ok.
-
 to you both xx
-
Bless him :Luv:
-
Treating him like normal would be best to keep his routine and least amount to stress i guess :)
-
:Luv:
-
Excellent news Teresa.
-
good for Buster
-
I totally missed this thread when it was first posted and didn't know about Buster until last weekend.
Just wanted to pass on our best wishes for the gorgeously distinguished man and I hope he has many more happy days, weeks and hopefully months at Paws Inn. I had forgotten that he is 22, only two years younger than me (nearly exactly!) and another December baby. I will also say that he does not look his age!
Sending our love (and lots of it!) :blow kiss: xxxx
-
How is Buster, as well as possible I hope.
-
How is Buster, as well as possible I hope.
Hes doing OK thank you.
I know this sounds really awful but it would be good if we could let this thread disappear; it is easier to cope with things if I can treat our boy as normal. I promise to post when their is news. :thanks:
-
I will lock it for you T and then if there is any further news you can start a new thraed.
Just pleased to hear that Buster is doing OK
