Title: Peony - Now with Piccies
Post by: Dawn (DiddyDawn) on February 12, 2008, 20:30:05 PM
Had a phone call off a lady yesterday via my CP friend and she's had a long haired tortie girl turn up.  She has 5 cats already which are ex feral and are happily using the cat flap to go in and out.  The tortie is a little monkey apparently and is causing ruptions, going through the cat flap and basically being a little madam with the resident cats.  The lady said if she'd have got on with them, she would quite happily keep her but it's not meant to be.  She asked if I could take her, she is very matted so may need a total demat but I've done her a deal  :evillaugh:  She is shortly going away for 2 weeks and when she comes back, she is more than happy to take some outdoor babes off me  :naughty:  She lives near Nantwich where funny enough, I've got the homecheck to do on Vita tomorrow and she said the spot is fab, plenty of fields and plenty of hiding places which sounds just perfect  :)  I'm not sure who will be going yet, but now the weather is getting better, it will be great to get some homes lined up for them, I hate rehoming ferals in Winter and this is why I've still got a houseful of them  ;)

I thought it was a pretty good deal tbh  ;)  I've not seen the little lady yet but Pav has already chosen a name for her, she is to be called Peony  :Luv:  I'll be picking her up tomorrow after I've done the homecheck for Vita so I'll take some piccies of her as soon as I get chance  :)

She sounds gorgeous and is extremely loving with people which is a help.  I think maybe her matted fur might have something to do with her being a naughty tortie with the others, if she's matted a lot, this will probably be hurting her and making her uncomfortable.  Also, I don't know if she's been spayed or not, so this could be another reason.

Just picked up the gorgeous Peony, she is beautiful  :Luv:  :Luv:  I'm just going to have a brew cos I've had a long day and I'll take some piccies of her later.  She is very matted and I'm not sure if she's been spayed or not so I'm going to try and get her in in the morning.

She is a little sweetheart and I think Pav's name for her suits her down to a t  :Luv:  :Luv:  I think most of her fur will end up coming off and I've got Daisy booked in in the morning, but I think Peony's going to have to go instead.  She has large matts and some are really pulling on her skin so she will be so uncomfortable bless her.   I'll phone the vets in the morning and see if they can both go in, if not Daisy will have to wait  :tired:

This gorgeous little girl is now in the vets, Carol said she'll try and keep as much fur on her as she can but it's possibly a total shave  :-:  One things for sure, she'll feel a lot more comfortable once she's been done  :Luv:

Peony is now shaved and Carol said she looks a "buggar"  :evillaugh:  She has been spayed already which is good news and I'll be picking her up about 2 o'clock  :Luv:  Peony is quite an old cat apparently, she is over 10 and only has 5 teeth left bless her, so they've removed some of the tartar but Carol said she would have liked a bit more time on her but because of her age, they didn't want to be topping up her anaesthetic.

Peony is now home, looks a definite buggar and I will have to find FooFoo's little jacket to put on her  :evillaugh:   She is very, very constipated so she's been given some Lactulose as well, and she is ultra skinny bless her.  Carol said it was awful shaving her as she could feel every bone in her body    I think she's going to feel better for it now, and hopefully she'll put some weight on and have a happy future  :Luv:  :Luv:  Everyone in the vets thought she was gorgeous and even with no fur, she is a definite babe  :Luv2:  :Luv2:

I'm going to the pet shop shortly to buy her another bed, all my hooded ones are in use at the moment.  I've put a little heated pad under her and she seems warm enough but I don't want her getting a chill bless her  :Luv:

Poor thing.

I just wanted to say re constipation I have had better results with liquid parrafin.

You can get it from any pharmacy and its cheaper. Both work as stool softeners.

Lactulose is just sugary syrup. I use it loads with humans being a nurse

dose is 1/2 ml twice daily

Sorry. Please dont think im being patronising. Lactulose did work with my crf cat for a short while but it stopped being effective.

Forest has to be kept "soft" due to his narrow pelvis and used to be on liquid paraffin but, after warnings on here about it's use, I tried De-Furr-Um hairball paste for cats and kittens and it is brilliant.  Forest has some in the morning and some in the evening and has not been constipated once since being on it and he LOVES the stuff, it is the first thing he eats when I put his food bowl down.  Maybe worth a try for little Peony and it's not too dear, I get mine from PetMeds but I have seen it in the local pet shop.

My vet recommended liquid parrafin and I have used it for over six months with no problems.

It depends on why constipation has occurred.

Furballls stuck in intestinal tract and constipation due to excessive water being removed from "normal" stool due to slow intestinal transit are different things.

I don't think that, my vets used to always recommend Liquid Parrafin, not sure why they've given me Lactolose unless that's what they use now.

Post by: cat man do on February 15, 2008, 16:18:08 PM
My vet has never stocked liquid parrfin. Only lactulose.

Forest has never suffered from hairballs but, due to his strange anatomy, which Tan has witnessed   he "blocks" very easily.  What a normal cat can pass, Forest would be trying to get out for days, ending up with a trip to the Vet and a very horrible job for the Vet with the smallest of fingers, but the de-furr-um has stopped all of that, so although they call it hairball past, it is not what I use it for.

As I thought, chemists don't stock Liquid Paraffin anymore,  I had an inkling but wasn't sure if I'd mixed it up with something else  :tired:  Pet shop had no De Furr em either so Lactolose it will have to be.  I did get her a cute little house bed though  :evillaugh:

Lactulose is good, its a stool softener not laxative so a nicer reaction  :evillaugh:

I have to use Lactulose as my chemist doesn't stock Liquid Paraffin anymore, and I got the impression they were fazing it out. Vet recommend Lactulose too, it has a different colour label to mine, but it works on Molly, so that is the main thing. She wont take Katalax.

Re Liquid Paraffin.  I heard somewhere, can't remember where and don't know if it's true, that used too regularly it can interfere with a cat's absorption of Vitamin A
