since coming to us 18 months ago Amber has always drunk a lot of water, you will see her drinking 3 or 4 times per day and can go weeks without actually seeing any of the others - according to the rescue she was 3 when we got her is it too soon to worry? she has a mixed wet and dry diet but does prefer dry.

If you're not seeing any difference in drinking levels to normal, then this is probably OK.
Having said that, if you think she is drinking more than usual, it is best to get this checked out. Is she weeing more than usual or is this about the same?
I've just done the same with my boy (although he is older at 9 years old), thinking that he seemed to be drinking a bit more than usual. He also has a wet/dry food mix, and I figured as well that the heating being on was making him more thirsty, but having checked his bloods/wee etc, he is looking as though he has the onset of kidney issues.
If you're concerned, it doesn't hurt to check with the vets just for peace of mind :shy:

Clapon has CRF and he drinks 4 - 500ml a day + 100% (more or less) wet food

I think you would see the water levels go down signifcantly and most of mine prefer to drink from buckets and flowerpot csaucers outside.
Its not the number of times they drink so much but the quantity. Kocka used to play with her water almost every hour, drink loads and go to the tray loads. She also used to splash it everywhere and scoop it out of her bowl and then flick her paws so it went up all vertical surfaces in the vacinity!

I won't panic then, the amounts haven't gone up since she came its just more than all the others, I will mention it at her yearly mot and see what they say

you could always ask the vet to measure urine concentration if you're worried.

I was worried about our Misha who drinks anything from 1 pint to a pint and a half a day - we had every test under the sun done as he is like a big round ball and hobbles around at times (checked her for arthritis too) but she was fine, vet said she is just somatic and something in her past (she is a rescue cat) has made her like this. We did literally have tons of tests down, and monitored food and drink intake for ages, had her weighed weekly at the vets - all sorts! Of course up to a pint and a half is an extreme amount but she has come back in A1 health! I do still worry but all tests were fine!
